remax stratford: All For The Sake Of Progress? - Taking Time To Question The Motives Of Others - 08/03/11 10:46 PM
A year ago we happened to be driving through Woodstock, Ontario on Easter Sunday, on our way to visit my sister in nearby Shakespeare, Ontario for Easter dinner.  We ended up taking a wrong turn in Woodstock and came across what was left of a beautiful turn of the century Church.
Only the front wall was still standing in what had been St. Mary's Catholic Church.  After doing a little research I found out the property had been sold and the front of the Church had been preserved and was to be incorporated into a senior's home to be built on … (11 comments)

remax stratford: Name That Photo - If You Can - 05/31/11 11:15 PM
It's been awhile since I've posted to the Name That Photo group created a couple of years ago by Liz Moras.  It is a fun group to post to, one where you submit a photo with or without a clue and let AR members guess what the subject in the photo is.
Sometimes the subject in the  photo is relatively easy to determine but more often than not, there is some pretty wild guessing going on.
I was out an about yesterday and noticed this reflection on the water and it made me think of the Name That Photo group.  We all know … (21 comments)

remax stratford: Are You LinkedIn? Just Call Me #34,787,990 - 05/24/11 10:23 PM
If you are a blogger or a social marketer you are aware of LinkedIn.  LinkedIn is a professional social media platform.  In March 2011, LinkedIn's membership grew to 100,000,000 and they claim that membership expands by 1 Million each week.
So where do you rank in the LinkedIn membership stats?  If you are curious you can click on your Profile page and go to View Profile.  Look up at the URL in your browser and there will be some words and then a number.  That's you.
I am ranked at 34,787,990.  Certainly not first to jump on this social platform bandwagon but well … (15 comments)

remax stratford: The Shakespearean Gardens - Stratford, Ontario - 05/20/11 10:18 PM
Hidden almost out of sight, just off the Huron Street bridge in downtown Stratford, Ontario lies the Shakespearean Gardens.  This well manicured English garden offers a formal setting with boxwood hedges, stone walkways, benches and gazebo yet comes alive with the brilliant colour of an amazing array of flowers, herbs, shrubs and trees.
The views from the garden are just as impressive with the historic Perth County Courthouse to one side and the gently flowing Avon River on the other side.  Stone steps and a pathway along the Avon River lead you underneath the old Huron Street bridge and towards the Shakespeare Festival.
The tulips were brilliant on my recent visit and I'm … (12 comments)

remax stratford: I Am A Patient Person - I AM A Patient Person - I AM A PATIENT PERSON - 05/19/11 11:46 PM
I am a patient person.  Does it look like I'm a patient person from the title of this post or does it look like I'm yelling?
I'm not yelling and actually I think I am a fairly patient person, although email and blogging etiquette would have you believe that I am yelling since I've used capital letters.
I'm trying hard to be patient while waiting for the yard in our new home to be graded and sodded.  This is all part and parcel of buying a newly built home.  When buyers are looking for homes and trying to decide whether to … (11 comments)

remax stratford: Star Sighting In Stratford? - No It Was Just The Phantom Of The Oprah - 05/16/11 10:22 PM
It was all over Twitter and Facebook on Friday.  Oprah Winfrey was attending the Grapes of Wrath at the Shakespeare Festival here in Stratford, Ontario.
Could it be true?  Nope-rah.  Well then how could this false rumour get started?  It seems someone tweeted that there was a film crew from Oprah's TV network OWN at the Rheo Thompson Candies store in downtown Stratford.
That part was true.  There was a taping going on for the TV show "Fearless in the Kitchen" with chef and cookbook writer/television personality Christine Cushing.
Fans of Oprah gathered in front of the Avon Theatre having been "tipped" … (8 comments)

remax stratford: Friday's Fotos - Meet Miss Casey - 05/13/11 11:31 PM
There are lots of cat lovers on Active Rain.  I know that well as I've seen lots of great feline fotos over the past three years.  Some of you have met my dog Lola as she has been featured in an occasional post accompanying me on a hike or out exploring backroads Ontario.
We have never had a cat as my husband suffers from allergies and his eyes usually water and he begins sniffing shortly after coming in contact with the little critters.
Recently our 20 year old daughter became the proud owner of a kitten.  She is at College in a different city so isn't … (11 comments)

remax stratford: Backroads Ontario - Shakespeare Conservation Area - 05/10/11 11:07 PM
Shakespeare, Ontario is well known for its antique stores, quilt and home decor shops, pie and bakeshop, and stop off spot for tourists on their way to Stratford to see a play at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival.
Just a mile or so north of the only stoplight in Shakespeare you will find the Shakespeare Conservation Area.  This is one of my new favourite spots to take Lola for a walk.  You can walk all around the pond which is bordered by farmer's fields.  The large trees are home to many varieties of birds.
Shakespeare Conservation Area is a day use only park … (7 comments)

remax stratford: Budget Minded Decorating - What's In Your Idea Files? - 05/09/11 11:29 PM
I love home decorating magazines.  I used to subscribe to a couple and I always looked for new ideas for my own home.  Unfortunately I found that many of the items in the magazines were out of my price range.
I used to cut out the pages of rooms or items that I really liked and put them in an idea file.  Like designer clothing, it's possible to get the look for less money if you look around and are thrifty.  Ever heard of Ikea?
My magazine subscriptions have ended as I've found a great site on the internet that allows me … (9 comments)

remax stratford: Sweet Soft Sounds Or Heavy Noise - What Do You Wake Up To? - 05/07/11 09:09 PM
Who do you wake up to in the morning?  Who do you turn on to help you rise and shine?  Do you like soft sweet sounds whispering in your ears or loud, heavy noise?
Since we moved to our new community a few months ago I've been turning onChymfm to wake up to.  It's a lite rock station in nearby Kitchener-Waterloo.  It offers a nice  mix of music that's easy on the still sleepy ears.  By the time afternoon rolls around if I'm at home I'm listening to Adele do her shift at the station.
One of the reasons I really … (12 comments)

remax stratford: I Will Buy My Dream Home When......... - 05/05/11 11:05 PM
I saw this cute little piggy bank when I visited the Best Little Pork Shoppe down the road in Shakespeare, Ontario.  I happened to have my camera with me and thought it was worth taking a picture of because it got me thinking.
I tried to think of ways to end the sentence.  I tried to think of ways my buyers would end the sentence.  And I'm curious as to how you would all finish the sentence.
I think most of us have an idea of what our dream home would be.  I always pictured an old stonehouse out in … (8 comments)

remax stratford: From Fishbowl To Mudbowl - But There's No Going Back - 05/04/11 09:19 PM
I have been asked many times over the last few months what made us up and relocate to a very small town.  There are many reasons, one being the fact that I am now living close to my parents and some of my siblings.
One of the other reasons I tell people is that I saw an empty lot that "spoke to me".  It is hard to explain but when I saw Lot 13 backing onto a farmer's field with two existing mature trees on the property, it just felt right.
Never in a million years would I have ever thought … (11 comments)

remax stratford: How's The Market? - Thank You For Asking - 05/03/11 10:05 PM
As a REALTOR® I often get asked the following questions. "How's the market?" "Is it a good time to buy?" " When's the best time to sell?" Those are not easy questions to answer with a short response. I often respond by saying " If only I had that crystal ball". But then my 22 years of working every different type of market there is, and many times over, kicks in and rather than generalizing I ask what specific information they require for their needs. I am going to try to give the Cole's Notes version of my answers to these … (8 comments)

remax stratford: May Day - May Day - Let The Blogging Begin - 05/01/11 08:59 PM
Today is May 1st.  May Day.  The term "May Day" has a few meanings.  May Day - May Day is a well known international distress signal.
May Day is also a day of celebration in many Countries.  I remember as a child in my primary years at school we would all go outside and dance around the flagpole on May 1st.  I don't know if that happens anymore in Canada.  I don't remember my kids ever doing it at their school.
For me May 1st means my first post as part of the 31 Day Challenge for May 2011 at Active Rain.  So … (10 comments)

remax stratford: The 31 Day Blogging Challenge For May - I think I can, I think I can - 04/28/11 02:38 PM
There have been many monthly blogging challenges and so far I've either missed the call to action or found out partway through or the timing just wasn't right for me.
While reading some other member's posts today I became aware of the 31 Day May Blogging Challenge.  I have been a tad lax with my blogging of late.  Life kind of got in the way.
I wasn't sure if I was up to the commitment of writing one blog a day for 31 days but I made an executive decision and jumped on-board.
Here are just a few reasons for my … (14 comments)

remax stratford: Happy Easter - And Here's To New Traditions - 04/24/11 01:23 PM
This is the first Easter in my new home and community.  Yesterday I decided to check out some of the local shops in preparation for Easter dinner for my family.
The majority of groceries I needed were going to be picked up at the local Zehrs store in Stratford.  But on the way to Stratford I just had to stop in at my favourite stores in the village of Shakespeare.  The well known Best Little Pork Shoppe has just reopened for the season.
I left there with some wonderful smoked chops and the best peameal bacon I've ever tasted.  Some home … (10 comments)

remax stratford: Moving On Down The Road - The Countdown Is On - 01/14/11 09:15 PM
The clock is ticking.  Our new house is almost finished and closing date is looming.  On January 27th we should be handed the keys to our shiny, new abode.  On February 1st I will begin the next phase of my real estate career at RE/MAX a-b Realty in Stratford, Ontario.
Some of you know of this new journey as I wrote a couple of previous posts some months ago in the beginning stages of this life changing adventure.  Today I attended my last office breakfast meeting at RE/MAX Aboutowne Realty Corp. where I've been working for the past 14 and a half … (19 comments)
