stratford ontario: Stratford Heritage Weekend - June 3 - 5, 2011 - 05/30/11 12:02 AM
The City of Stratford, Ontario will be hosting their annual Heritage Weekend on June 3rd - 5th. I have already checked off the events that I'm interested in attending. I am a history nut so that's part of the reason that so many of the weekend events appeal to me. Here is how the www.welcometostratford.com website describes the weekend festiviities. "Come celebrate the rich heritage of Stratford, St. Marys and Shakespeare on June 3-5 at the Stratford Spring Heritage Weekend with an antiques fair; special guided walks of antique shops and carriage tours of Stratford's heritage district; St. Marys "Once Upon

stratford ontario: The Shakespearean Gardens - Stratford, Ontario - 05/20/11 10:18 PM
Hidden almost out of sight, just off the Huron Street bridge in downtown Stratford, Ontario lies the Shakespearean Gardens. This well manicured English garden offers a formal setting with boxwood hedges, stone walkways, benches and gazebo yet comes alive with the brilliant colour of an amazing array of flowers, herbs, shrubs and trees. The views from the garden are just as impressive with the historic Perth County Courthouse to one side and the gently flowing Avon River on the other side. Stone steps and a pathway along the Avon River lead you underneath the old Huron Street bridge and towards the Shakespeare Festival. The tulips were brilliant on my recent visit and I'm

stratford ontario: Friday's Fotos - Avon Calling - 05/06/11 10:45 PM
The title of this blog post is probably dating me. I don't know if that term Avon Calling is even used anymore but it came to me as I was thinking of a title. I think it stems back to the days when Avon products were sold door to door. Does anyone remember the Fuller Brush Man? These door knocking salespeople would make great REALTORS® today. The Avon that I am referring to in this post is the Avon River. The Avon flows through Stratford from one end to the other and mostly enjoyed in the downtown area where part of it

stratford ontario: The 31 Day Blogging Challenge For May - I think I can, I think I can - 04/28/11 02:38 PM
There have been many monthly blogging challenges and so far I've either missed the call to action or found out partway through or the timing just wasn't right for me. While reading some other member's posts today I became aware of the 31 Day May Blogging Challenge. I have been a tad lax with my blogging of late. Life kind of got in the way. I wasn't sure if I was up to the commitment of writing one blog a day for 31 days but I made an executive decision and jumped on-board. Here are just a few reasons for my

stratford ontario: Starting From Scratch - With 22 Years Experience - 04/02/11 10:37 PM
It's hard to believe it's been 2 months since I pulled up roots from a town of 175,000 that I spent the last 22 years selling real estate in and moved to a teeny, tiny community of 2400. I've written some previous posts about the "big move" so I won't go into past details. I'm beginning to find routine in my life again. Routine is good. The town that I'm now selling real estate in is 15 minutes from the little village I live in. Stratford is considered a city with a population of 32,000. For some reason Oakville with its' 175,000 +

stratford ontario: Rural Roots - #1 - Heading Down The Road - 02/09/11 12:08 AM
It's been 10 days since we packed the moving truck, a pickup truck, a van and my car and left Oakville for our new home in Tavistock an hour and a bit down the road. Ten action packed days, I must add. The journey down Highway 401 was not without incident as I noticed an object flying across the road ahead of us. At first I thought it was just a piece of cardboard but as we drove a little further we noticed a box spring laying on the shoulder of the road, and a car in the middle lane stopped

stratford ontario: Name That Photo - Monday Morning Mystery - 09/20/10 11:33 AM
It's been awhile since I have submitted a photo to the Name That Photo group. When I snapped this photo this past weekend I thought it would make a great entry. This photo is an extreme closeup of the subject in question. I'm not going to give any clues up front as I want some pie in the sky guesses. What is the first thing that pops into your mind when you look at this photo? Who knows, your thought may be the correct answer. Give it your best guess and I will come back later with a clue or two.

stratford ontario: Backroads Ontario - Take A Trip Back In Time - 02/06/10 01:03 AM
I've posted some of the photos below in previous blogs but thought I would see what they looked like after removing some or all of the colour. I think it really gives them a different feel and ages some of the already aged abandoned buildings. For years we only had black and white photos and then colour came along and changed everything. Now black and white has become popular again. Everything old is new again?
