town of oakville: My Google Search Looked Different - And I Blamed My Husband - 05/06/10 11:24 AM
My husband was Googling on my laptop last night and after he finished and went to bed it was my turn.  Oh no, Google looked different.  What was all that stuff in the left hand side bar?  And why did the logo look different?
I automatically figured my husband must have tampered with the Google search page.  I use google.ca so I switched over to google.com.  It was no different.  Strange.  What the heck was going on?
I googled "changes to Google".  A few items came up but nothing recent.  This morning Google looked the same as last night.  I … (18 comments)

town of oakville: Town Talk - What's Happening In Oakville? - 05/05/10 11:57 PM
I just learned that the Town of Oakville offers a Memorial Tree Program that allows you to buy or adopt a tree to honour the life of a lost loved one, or just to dedicate to a friend or family member.
We all know that trees can provide a lasting tribute for someone special and they also enhance our natural environment.  Oakville has a list of parks and cemetery locations where the trees can be planted or adopted.
A cast bronze plaque will be set in concrete and placed at the base of the tree plus a certificate of acknowledgement will  be issued.
The cost of the tree is $2100. … (5 comments)

town of oakville: Spring Is In The Air In Oakville - And So Is The Spring Real Estate Market - 03/25/10 03:37 PM
The calendar tells us that spring has arrived in Oakville.  We were very fortunate to have had a mild winter with not much snow to speak of.  Not even a school or business closure day.
That's not to say that we won't experience a final flurry or two as we usually do in late March and early April.  But thinking ahead, it's time to have a look at our yards and gardens to see how they have fared over the winter. Whether you are thinking of selling your home this spring or not here are a few outdoor household tips to create some … (9 comments)

town of oakville: It's Almost March But Winter Has Arrived - Oakville Is Now SN'Oakville - 02/26/10 10:52 PM
It was bound to happen sooner or later.  Winter that is.  I mean the calendar said it officially began on December 21st.   In three weeks spring will have sprung. This afternoon's rain turned to snow as soon as the temperature dipped below the freezing mark.  Tonight the trees are sagging under the weight of the white stuff and there is some serious driveway shovelling going on.
I had to show a house this afternoon so my son chauferred me due to my broken ankle and afterwards I asked him to take me to the harbour so I could take a few … (17 comments)

town of oakville: Town Talk - Do You Know What's Happening In Oakville? - 02/21/10 12:00 AM
I have found a couple of excellent Oakville sites where you can get up to the minute happenings around town.  The first comes from the Town of Oakville's own website and the page is called:
All public notices  Here you will find an up to date calendar of important public information meetings that may be of interest to you as an Oakville resident.  There are plan of subdivision applications,  general meetings for the proposed new hospital, bylaw amendments, drop in sessions, etc. all taking place at Town Hall.
This is a great way to become aware of what is happening in the community.

town of oakville: I Couldn't Find Any Snow - But I Found A Snow Goose - 02/15/10 12:19 AM
We've had an  easy winter so far,  here in Oakville. Very little snow other than a light dusting here and there. No school closings or disruptions.  They are getting rain in Vancouver for the Olympics.  Some worried that there wouldn't be enough snow for the ski events.
It's been snowing in Dallas and in many parts of the U.S. that rarely if ever see the white stuff.  No one can blame Canada this year and say it's the cold Arctic air travelling south.
I can't predict the weather other than knowing that spring will arrive as usual around the 21st of March.  Our Canada Geese … (18 comments)

town of oakville: Family Day In Oakville Ontario - Monday February 15, 2010 - 02/12/10 09:06 PM
Family Day is a statutory holiday that is recognized by  most Canadian Provinces.  It is celebrated on the third Monday in February.
On Monday, February 15th, the Town of Oakville has a full day of free activities lined up for family fun.  "Make Your Move Oakville" offers a schedule of events for all family members at participating town facilities.  Free public skating and swimming, fitness classes, library programs, sports demonstrations and much more are being offered on an even larger scale than last year.
All of this is being offered free due to the overwhelming success of last year's Family Day celebrations.  What better way to spend a holiday Monday … (4 comments)

town of oakville: Take Me Home - To Oakville, Ontario - 01/07/10 11:01 PM
I've done my share of promoting the Town of Oakville with my past blogs and photos.  I happened to find this video on Youtube that I thought I would share.
Oakville Mayor Rob Burton narrates this short snapshot of our beautiful  and vibrant town.  I find it very easy to promote Oakville's virtues to out of town clients. Leafy neighbourhoods, quality schools and a charming downtown core are just a few reasons to call Oakville home.

town of oakville: Town Talk - Oakville, Ontario - 12/04/09 11:40 PM
The vision statement for the Town of Oakville is "To be the most livable town in Canada"  With an envious location on the shores of Lake Ontario only a half hour from the  large cities of Toronto and Hamilton, Oakville is home to nearly 170,000.  Although the population warrants a designation as a city, Oakville has chosen to grow yet retain the smaller community feel.
Whether you presently live in Oakville or you are contemplating making a move here, there is always lots going on around the town all year long.
If you are new to Oakville, the Oakville Newcomers … (7 comments)

town of oakville: Don't Call Me Feb. 18 - 01/12/09 05:01 PM
We have a new statutory holiday here in Ontario.  It is called Family Day and it will be observed on the third Monday of every February.  It was actually a campaign promise made good by our Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, delivered the day after his Liberal Party was re-elected Oct. 10, 2008.
There is a lot of controversy over this decisiion as it seems many people will not get the day off to spend with their families.  Schools will be closed and of course the banks and government offices will close their doors.  Many Ontarians are pleased with the announcement but … (7 comments)
