Famed businessman and philanthropist Dr. Phillip Phillips, better known by his close friends as "Doc", was born on January 27, 1874 in Memphis Tennessee. He received his medical degree while attending Columbia University, in New York. Dr. Phillips first came to the State of Florida in 1894. Considered the largest citrus producer of his time, he purchased his first orange grove in Satsuma, FL shortly after arriving in Florida.
