active rain: Dear (Name) Got a Spare $890 to throw away? - 01/27/12 10:02 AM
Don't you just love opportunistic marketing? Seems like everyday, I get phone calls from someone wanting to sell me all the greatest leads for only hundreds of my dollars every month. Yeah, I swallowed that bitter pill once...Not going there again! Then yesterday, I got the following email from the nice people at Strategies Inc. Dear, Our agency is currently selling the domain name TulsaOK.netWe can currently offer this domain for the very reduced price of $890. Owning an easily memorizable domain name can help to drive high value clients to your business. If you have interest

active rain: Think Blogging Doesn't Work? Think Again - 01/19/12 09:14 AM
Many of you here at Active Rain don't know me because I've been recuperating from a bad case of blogging burnout. So I haven't blogged much in the last year. As I've struggled with getting back into blogging, I am constantly reminded of the benefits of not only Active Rain, but of the past blogs I have written. Here is why. Many of my friends I met at Active Rain have stayed in touch and have been great encouragers. They have believed in me when I didn't believe in myself any longer. You need those kinds of friends in life. I

active rain: Mistakes, Burnout and Recovery - 03/01/11 10:33 AM
If you know me, you know that I am now in my fourth year of selling Real Estate. I have blogged about my experiences in this crazy career since having found Active Rain way back in 2007. I have shared challenges. I have shared discoveries and I have shared high and low points. You probably have noticed that I haven't been around much lately. It isn't because I don't like my fellow Active Rainers or AR, but rather because I burned myself out pretty good. Yep, I flat out burned out to the point that I had nothing left to say.

active rain: It Was Their Picture that Caught My Attention! Meet Brent and Deb Wells, AR Newbies! - 08/07/10 12:25 PM
It isn't very often that a picture here at Active Rain really jumps out at me and makes me want to go see what someone is all about. That's no offense to any of us. It's just that there is only so much you can do with a picture, right? But then, this morning, after I got back from showing a house, I came across Brent and Deb Wells. They had left a comment on one of my blogs. And when I read their comment, their picture caught my attention. Now you want to see it right? Okay, here it is...

active rain: Breaking Up is Hard to do...Well, Not Really! - 08/06/10 01:22 PM
I used to love the song, "Breaking Up is Hard to Do" when I was a kid. Remember those great lyrics that Neil Sadaka and Karen Carpenter sang so beautifully? They say that breaking up is hard to doNow I know, I know that it's trueDon't say that this is the endInstead of breaking up I wish that we were making up again I can still hear the Doobie, Doobie, Doo-Wah's in that song even as I read those great lyrics. And that is comforting because I'm getting ready to break up with someone. The heartbreak is going to happen for

active rain: Understanding Why We Choose Active Rain - 08/04/10 09:54 AM
From time to time, someone will ask what the significance of Active Rain is and why we blog here when we could be blogging elsewhere. They'll point out that WordPress blogs give a person great Google Juice and that your blog should be on your website and other such things. And they're right. It is a good idea to do that stuff. But blogging here at Active Rain is different than blogging on your own website. Here, you're with people. On your website or WordPress blog, you're more likely to be alone. Oh sure, you might be a good enough writer

active rain: It Made Me Cuss and The Dog Ran Away Shaking - 07/24/10 10:17 AM
I love blogging. It gives me a voice in Real Estate far beyond the boundaries of Owasso and Tulsa. And it has brought me lots of new friends here at Active Rain. Blogging has also brought me clients. And it gives me a great way to market my listings! But Blogging is dangerous. It can make you lose control of yourself momentarily if you're not careful. All it takes is forgetting to SAVE your work while writing and then accidentally hitting the ENTER button on your keyboard. That magical combination has the power to do two things: 1)Make your hard work instantly

active rain: Active Rain, Real Estate Trolls and Fact Checking - 04/08/10 08:01 AM
It never ceases to amaze me how people try so many less than honorable ways to sollicit business in the world of Real Estate. For example, we were looking at a website yesterday that is advertising buyer's rebates in Oklahoma. Buyer's rebates are not allowed in Oklahoma and twelve other states. This is illegal. And yet, there it was blasted all over this beautiful website. Someone isn't paying attention to the rules...or doesn't care. Do they think no one like the nice folks at RESPA and other agents won't notice? Wrong! Then there is this email that was in my inbox this morning...

active rain: What They Don't Tell You About Active Rain - 03/30/10 08:40 AM
There is a secret about Active Rain that you don't know. People talk about it at times, but not openly. They just kind of refer to it in blogs and if you aren't paying attention, you miss it. I've never really heard Bob Stewart or the other Active Rain folks talk about it openly either. And its not because they have something to hide. It's more because it is something that comes as a result of being in the Rain and having a game plan for your blogging. So what is this secret that lurks below the blogosphere surface at Active Rain? Its' this... When

active rain: Can I Say it Again? The Power of Active Rain Will Bring You Leads! - 03/20/10 08:38 AM
Many of you know that I recently introduced Lisa Stafford to the Rain. She was an agent who was struggling. Her broker told her to visit with me and a few other agents in the company to see if we could help her out. So we met over breakfast where I introduced her to Active Rain and the 177,000 friends of mine who understand the power of blogging. Click here to visit Lisa's profile and see her latest blog. Lisa jumped in immediately and began blogging, which was really interesting because, for a long time, she couldn't understand how it all worked.

active rain: Smart People - 01/20/10 07:40 AM
You know how it goes, right? You meet someone and somewhere in the midst of the conversation Active Rain comes up. It's usually in the course of comparing marketing methods and real estate stuff. You talk about how great Active Rain is and how much you learn from everyone else and how your business has been transformed by blogging, but you can tell that the person isn't listening. All that good advice is going right in one ear and out the other. Or, if they are listening, there is the protest. "Oh, I'm not a writer!" they say. Or they'll say

active rain: Should You Advertise You've been in the Biz a Long Time or Not? - 10/16/09 08:04 AM
I was reading through some blogs recently when I came across one where the person was pointing out that they had been in the real estate business since the 70's. The way it was written made me think that the person was old. Now, before you chew me out for saying that, stay with me for a second. It was the verbage and the way the information was stated that gave me the impression of "old". It wasn't the picture and it wasn't anything else. Actually, the picture was pretty cool. So I got to thinking about when I will have

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS FICTIONAL AND SATIRICAL. It is not a first hand account of my personal real estate business nor is directed at any real person in any way. Dear Ineffective Realtor, You used to be a big dog in this business, but not anymore. Today I watch you in the office as you read the latest edition of Realtor Magazine, make some phone calls and sit around visit with others

active rain: Antair Blackberry Spam Filter...Never See Spam on Your Blackberry Again! - 08/05/09 07:53 AM
Antair Blackberry Spam Filter makes it so you'll never see Spam on Your Blackberry Again! This is written in response to a comment by Chris Olsen Broker/Owner - Olsen Ziegler Realty (Olsen Ziegler Realty) on a blog written by C Tann-Star concerning Spam within the ActiveRain Realtor community website. To read her post, click here. I felt for Chris because apparently, he's about to throw his blackberry against the wall due to the amount of Spam coming in each day. I too had this problem. I too was furious and frustrated and ready to flush my Blackberry, but then I discovered the Antair

active rain: Blogging, Active Rain and Google page placement - 02/25/09 07:10 AM
I'm getting ready to teach a class tomorrow. The topic will be on internet placement and blogging. When I began in real estate in 2007, I found Active Rain and immediately knew I had a home. This is where I've spent my time blogging and learning. And AR has been good to me. But now I'm wondering if I should have been blogging in connection with my website also. It seems like to me that you really want to push content out to the web in connection with your name and branding. And I'm not sure I've done the best job

active rain: Desktop and Website Images - 10/24/08 07:46 AM
Ever noticed how some folks are able to place a copy of their desktop image into their blog? It's pretty handy when you want to be able to show others exactly what you're talking about! For example, here's a copy of my desktop right now... Here's how you do it. 1.When you've got your browser or desktop to what you want to show others, press the PRINT SCREEN key once. 2. Open your photo editing program and load a blank, new palette. 3. Click on the PASTE icon in your program and magically your desktop will appear in your photo editing program!

active rain: Sharing Your Knowledge - 09/18/08 02:02 PM
This morning, I got to go speak at our "Bootcamp" where newbies to the world of real estate go to learn all about this new and exciting career they have chosen. My topic was technology and specifically, FREE technology a person can use when entering into the real estate world. Listening to myself present the material made me realize that I have learned A LOT over the past 18 months since I went into real estate myself. Much of what I have learned came as a result of being here at Active Rain. Here is some of the information I shared with my class

active rain: About the AR Point Thing - 09/15/08 06:04 PM
If you read the blogs on Active Rain, it doesn't take long to come across some ferocious opinions on the evilness of the point system. A few of our writers here at AR have really taken what seems like almost an offense to the points. Their main complaint seems to be that people game the system and therefore the points should be removed. After following these blogs for the last few days, I think we all need to remember something about AR. Although it is a free site, when you sign up to join, you agree to the terms and conditions

active rain: Localism Question - 07/29/08 08:34 PM
I posted a blog this morning and checked the box for it to appear in Localism and the box for it to appear on my outside blog. Now the blog isn't showing up on Localism - only on my outside blog. Odd. I think some behind the scenes "editing" may be going on here? After reading the pro's and cons of Localism I'm wondering if anyone has noticed this situation? On Localism, is it a given that what you post will be there and stay there? Or is our content subject to a "selection" process of some sort. Does anybody know what's
