bob haywood: Speechless Sunday - The Old Fence Sign in Tulsa Oklahoma - 02/05/12 09:10 AM
You know how it is. You're out showing houses and you come across one of those things that catches your eye. It can be an old light fixture, a retro stove, the marks on the wall showing the heights of the kids who grew up there or even...just a fence that has stood in place for a very long time. This sign caught my eye yesterday as I was showing houses in Tulsa Oklahoma, in an older neighborhood. The house had long since been abandoned and was in foreclosure. But the fence has continued to stand guard through all the changes

bob haywood: The Dog Groomer - 10/04/11 10:02 AM
There once was a dog groomer who owned a fairly successful dog grooming business. Even when times got tough. Her dog grooming business did well because she was good at what she did; grooming dogs. However, she wasn’t so good at keeping her mouth shut. One day, a regular customer came into her shop to have his little dog groomed. This particular customer loved his little dog. He often fed her table scraps and other kinds of people food that weren't good for her. But that was because he loved her. Needless to say, his little dog was on the

bob haywood: If you're going to sell your house, remember that letting people in to see it is important! - 06/02/10 08:38 AM
If you're going to sell your house, remember that letting people in to see it is important! I've got a nice couple whom I am working with. They are looking for a house in a certain part of our city and in a specific price range. And they're very certain of what they're looking for. That makes it easy to find houses to show them. Usually there are only a couple at a time to go see. "Hi. This is Bob Haywood with McGraw Realtors. I'd like to show your house on Saturday at 1 p.m." Usually when I call a home

bob haywood: I Couldn't Believe She Said It - 04/22/10 08:30 AM
Sometimes you just shake your head at the stupid things people do and say in the world of real estate. Well more specifically, at the stupid things we Realtors say and do. Take for example, the Realtor I recently had to deal with who called me incesstantly over 3 days after I had called him to tell him that I was going to possibly be bringing an offer from one of my buyers on one of his properties. I knew he'd be a real gem to negotiate and deal with. I'm actually glad I didn't have to. Then there was this statement another Realtor made to

bob haywood: Oklahoma Hunting - 04/18/10 08:15 AM
Here in Oklahoma, we do things...well, let's just say...differently. I was driving down the road yesterday when these two guys passed me. I sat up and took notice of their back window and thought, "Wow! You don't see that happen very often anymore!" I wonder how many big cities, like New York or LA, would never allow someone to carry their 22 rifle in their back window these days! For the record, I don't know if the gun was real or not. Also, for the record, it wasn't too long ago when this scene was fairly common in America...at least

bob haywood: A Political Rant About Poltical Rants - 04/06/10 07:22 AM
If you've been around Active Rain very long, you know that the subject of political posts usually hits a pretty raw nerve with many people. The latest uprising was over a philosophical post that someone took exception too. Someone else wrote about it and all three posts were featured. If you missed the party don't worry, there will be others. I don't usually write politcal posts, but in light of today's current political environment in both our country and here at AR, I thought I'd take a shot at it... When we have a President from the other party, the party

bob haywood: Not So Speechless Sunday: First Signs of Spring in Tulsa Oklahoma! - 03/07/10 07:57 AM
It's the first signs of Spring in Tulsa Oklahoma! I shot this picture this past week when I noticed that the daffodils had popped up in the front yard of our Greater Tulsa area home. Our daffodils are always the first sign that Spring is on the way to Tulsa! You will notice the brown grass in this picture. Many people who are not from the Greater Tulsa area often think our grass dies in the wintertime, but this is not true. It more or less "hibernates" by turning brown. If you look down in the grass, there is always a

bob haywood: Owasso Realtors - 03/06/10 04:00 PM
So you're going to sell your Owasso house. And it's time to pick an Owasso Realtor. And you probably know several Owasso Realtors. You may even have an Owasso Realtor in your family. But who to pick? All Owasso Realtors are pretty much the same right? Uh...no. Sure, all Owasso Realtors have access to the MLS and to Realtor.com and most of us have our own websites and we are licensed and trained in the required classes, but in today's world that may be all that many Owasso Realtors have in common. Today, there is a vast difference in what your Owasso Realtor brings to the marketing table. For example, Owasso Realtors

bob haywood: In Honor of My Wonderful Wife of 25 Years - 03/01/10 06:26 PM
Today is March 1st. It's my anniversary. Well, it's actually our anniversary. Twenty five years ago today, Diane and I were married. Wow. Where does the time go? It literally seems like yesterday! She was one of the first girls I met when I got to college. I was 12 hours away from home, the only student from Oklahoma and kind of lonely. We were in a park eating cold hotdogs, which I hated, at a "Welcome Freshmen" picnic when she and some of her friends came walking up to me and she introduced herself. I knew I'd marry

Can you say two all beef paties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun? This is the way we make 'em out here in the flatlands! My friend had to squish it all down to get it in his mouth. And he ate every bite!

bob haywood: What to Blog About When You Don't Know What to Blog About - 02/13/10 07:58 AM
Ever have one of those days when you just have no idea what to blog about? You know you need to write somethingYou long to write somethingBut the words just won't comeSo what do you do?What do you write about? I developed a process I use whenever I am having a "blank slate" day. Let me share it with you. First, decide if you are going to write for the Active Rain community or for your Real Estate community. Do you have something to share with your friends at AR concerning blogging or an experience you've had or about something in your

bob haywood: Why We Blog...in Honor of My Mom - 02/11/10 07:09 AM
Today is a significant day for me. That's because my dad is bringing my mom home. This will be the first time since 1977 that mom will be living in Tulsa again. Dad will soon follow...after he sells the house in Little Rock. Today we are moving mom into a Memory Care Facility. That's fancy talk for an Alzheimer's secured housing unit. It's a nice place with memory boxes and beautiful furniture and all that. But, for me, the stark reality and significance of this day is not lost on a pretty setting. I wrote the following blog back in November of 2009.

bob haywood: Welcome to Owasso, Oklahoma, the Heartland of America! - 02/10/10 12:04 PM
Welcome to Owasso, Oklahoma, the Heartland of America! Owasso (pronounced O WAH SO), Oklahoma is a great suburb community of Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is located just 8 miles north of Tulsa and is a city unto itself. Owasso is a great place to live as it offers lots of beautiful, newer neighborhoods, areas where you can own half acre or full acre lots, shopping, dining and easy access to Tulsa and the Greater Tulsa airport. You can see from the map below where Owasso is located in relation to Greater Tulsa. Owasso is a planned community. For many years, it served as

bob haywood: How to Research a Neighborhood or Subdivision for a Blog - 02/08/10 08:57 AM
Cheryl Ritchie asked me a question recently about doing research for when I blog about a neighborhood or subdivision. This was in response to my post, One Thing (Blogging Straight Talk). The point I was making in that piece was that I had a very good lead come in because I had spent time blogging about a listing in a particular neighborhood as well as blogging separately about the neighborhood itself. Her question was what steps does one take when researching a neighborhood? So here they are...I think you'll be surprised at how simple they actually are! 1. Do a Google search by name
