Go Ahead and Get Political...You Don't Need Those Clients Whom You're Offending!
I've begun deleting people from Facebook.  It's mostly Real Estate Agents.  And it's Real Estate agents who are posting political stuff that is designed to be offensive.  Now don't get me wrong.  Having a political opinion is smart.  We all need to be engaged in the development of our government and how it operates.  But when Real Estate agents go offensively political on Facebook or in their online blogs and say things about the party with whom they do not agree, they aren't being too smart.  They'll put cartoons and YouTube videos and all kinds of stuff … (7 comments)

facebook: It's a Facebook Thing - 01/12/11 12:17 PM
It's 7:30 a.m. and I find myself sitting in the lobby of an Acura car dealer in Tulsa.  I have come here early this morning because I got a letter in the mail telling me that my car needs a software update. A software update for a car?  How crazy is that!
As I pulled into the service area, I was greeted by a very professional young man. After checking in, I went to the lobby and waited while I read the morning paper and enjoyed a complimentary cup of Starbucks coffee.  It's gonna be an hour and a half, so I've got my laptop … (48 comments)

facebook: Facebook Reality Check: I'm Not Playing, I'm Working! - 11/04/10 10:05 AM
Many of you know of my wife Diane.  She doesn't blog, but I write about her from time to time.  I swear she is her grandmother reincarnated.  She loves to garden, owns four dogs, never met a stranger, gets up every day to feed the dogs, do her exercise routine on the Wii and have her devotions.  Yeah, she's alright!
Diane works at a bank.  And one of the rules at the bank is that the employees cannot be on Facebook through the day.  Quite frankly, I'm surprised they even have access to the Internet.  But knowing the folks who own … (86 comments)

facebook: When You Don't Answer Your Phone it Makes My Phone Ring - 08/23/10 09:28 AM
CAUTION - The following is edgy and sarcastic.  Thanks to Greg Nino and TLW, I'm developing a sarcastic side!
Dear Mr/Mrs Real Estate Agent,
This letter is to say thank you.  Because when you don't answer your phone it makes my phone ring.  It happened again yesterday.  A buyer had tried to call you several times to see your listing, but you never answered your phone or called them back.  So they gave up and called me.
See, I have this phone system called Facebook and I use it a lot to talk to people.  These folks contacted me through that … (51 comments)

facebook: The Ultimate Facebook Open House No No - 09/11/09 10:39 AM
You're on Facebook now.  You're using it to connect with people.  You're loving being in the community with people right?
If you're a smart agent, you're probably putting your open houses on Facebook.  I do.  I usually put the listing or some pics and the time and then I invite folks to come see me.  Some people show up.  Others Facebook me to say hi.  Sometimes other agents who are on Facebook during their open house will say something too.
And that brings up the Ultimate Facebook Open House No No.
Ready?  Here it is...
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER put a remark … (7 comments)

facebook: Facebook Tutorial - How to Take Control of the Chat Feature - 09/09/09 08:29 AM
Ever had this happen?  You're on Facebook and a chat window pops up.  Someone wants to talk to you!  Sweet!  You can catch up and visit for a bit with the person.  Kind of cool, right?

But what if you're in a hurry?  You don't want to be rude to them.  Can I ignore the window and not answer their "hello?"  What if I don't really know this person very well and I'm not sure what to say to them?  Or what if I just want to keep Facebook open while I'm working at my desk, but I don't want … (10 comments)

facebook: Why I'm Kicking Your Butt in Selling Real Estate - 09/03/09 09:41 AM
DISCLAIMER:  THIS IS FICTIONAL AND SATIRICAL.
It is not a first hand account of my personal real estate business nor is directed at any real person in any way.  It is designed to prod anyone in any industry who is losing business but refuses to embrace technology that is readily available.  If this offends you, you're reading it incorrectly.
Dear Ineffective Realtor,
You used to be a big dog in this business, but not anymore.  Today I watch you in the office as you read the latest edition of Realtor Magazine, make some phone calls and sit around visit with others … (265 comments)

facebook: Are You Wasting Your Time? - 07/17/09 07:16 AM
This morning I woke up and signed onto Active Rain to find an interesting post by Brian Tercero talking about David Gibbonsof Zillow telling everyone in the world that blogging is "so 2008."
You can read the post here
One thing that Brian said that jumped out at me was, "Customers demand a new level of customer service, they are spending hours searching for those brokers that embrace technology and use it to position themselves to be found. They are educating themselves with information those brokers are leaving for them to find on their web sites. And when these customers are … (3 comments)

facebook: Beware of the Fake Facebook Message! - 07/06/09 08:04 AM
I woke up this morning to find an email from the trainer of our company in my inbox saying something about Facebook being slow and having too many people.  In response you're supposed to send the email to 20 people on Facebook so that they'll know you are active.  Failure to do so will get you removed automatically without notice.

Here is the message...
"Facebook is recently becoming very overpopulated, there have been many members complaining that Facebook is becoming very slow. Records show that the reason is that there are too many non-active Facebook members and, on the other side, too … (0 comments)

facebook: How to post and restrict pics of properties on Facebook for select clients - 01/13/09 08:43 AM
So we're on Facebook now, right?  Pretty cool so far.  Through this wonderful social networking tool, I've been able to advance my real estate sphere of influence by connecting with old friends.  And I've even been able to find a client who I needed to track down in another state.  I couldn't get him on his phone and he was moving.  I jumped on Facebook one Saturday morning and there he was on-line.  We were able to use the Chat feature to catch up and solve the problem.
One of the coolest features of Facebook is the ability to send pics … (2 comments)

facebook: Why You've Got to Get on Facebook... - 11/22/08 06:24 AM
I'll admit it.  I held off plunging into Facebook for a long time.  This was mostly because I own three teenagers who have been Facebooking and MySpacing for years.  It's a kid thing right?
WRONG!
I finally took the plunge a few weeks ago after reading Jason Crouch talk about social networking and real estate.  Click here to read his post.
Facebook is very easy to set up and install and it is FREE, which is great.  Once you set up your account and upload a pic, you can go pick your high school and graduation year and click the search … (3 comments)

facebook: Are You a Native or a Tourist? - 11/09/08 10:20 PM
I read about this concept a couple of years ago.  It was written in regards to church growth, but the idea applies to real estate big time!  Basically, the thinking goes like this...you may think you are a native in your environment because you've been you, doing what you're doing for a long time.  However, you may actually now be a tourist in your world because the world around you changed while you stayed the same.
Want an application?  How about Facebook and Twitter?
I've put off jumping into these two applications for a long time because I always thought they were … (7 comments)
