owasso oklahoma: Speechless Sunday - The Old Truck - 06/05/11 08:44 AM
I'm not sure who decided to drag or haul what is left of this truck into the woods, but it has been there ever since at least 1997 when Diane and I moved to Owasso Oklahoma. It sits at the intersection of 177th East Avenue and 86th Street North. Even though the sign says "No Trespassing", there isn't anything to go tresspassing for. No house. No barn. No anything except for the over grown woods. There is the truck cab, of course. But since the sign says to stay off the property, I've never wandered out to check out the old

owasso oklahoma: Speechless Sunday - The Old Bridge - 04/03/11 08:57 AM
I was driving back from Skiatook to Owasso Oklahoma yesterday when I saw this picture perfect sight. Just by the bend in the road was this old iron bridge. The road is closed and doesn't cross it anymore, but it has been left in place, a remnant from the past. You will notice, if you look carefully, that the present surrounds the old bridge. There is a new house just to the left of the picture and just in front of the bridge also. Scenes like this are on of the reasons I love living in the northern area of

owasso oklahoma: Speechless Sunday - Owasso Oklahoma Record Snowfall - 02/13/11 09:23 AM
Speechless Sunday - Owasso Oklahoma Record Snowfall Owasso Oklahoma isn't typically known to be a place where we have tons of snow in the winter time. However, the winter of 2011 has proven to be a record setter. Owasso Oklahoma received 21 inches of snow the first week of February 2011 with the air temperature hovering around freezing and below. Then, the next week Owasso Oklahoma received another 8-10 inches! And the temperatures continued to not only hover around the freezing mark, but it dipped well below with Nowata Oklahoma setting an all time low of 30 below zero. Schools in

owasso oklahoma: Signs of Life in Owasso Oklahoma Real Estate - 01/18/11 01:59 PM
Oklahoma is an interesting place to live. We're located in the middle part of the country. We're pretty conservative. We have people from all over the place who live here. And our cost of living is very low and usually very stable. Usually, our local economy follows the national economy. For example, here in Owasso, our housing market seemed to bottom out in July of 2010. Phones quit ringing. Sales were off - way off. And Realtors® started talking about how they might have to look for other work so they could eat. In the meantime, the national economy had already

owasso oklahoma: Speechless Sunday - Here's One Way to Get Rid of Moles in Your Oklahoma Yard - 11/28/10 08:50 AM
Here in Owasso Oklahoma, we seem to have a mole problem. As you drive down the highways and around town, you can see their brown dirt heaps from where they've been tunneling through the ground. Moles, like groundhogs and other burrowing creatures are very dangerous if you own cattle or horses. Large animals can step into their holes or tunnels and easily break a leg. If you live in the city, they're a nuisance because they mess up your yard. I understand that there are lots of ways to get rid of moles, including something called Poison Peanuts that you can

owasso oklahoma: Welcome to McDonalds in Owasso, Oklahoma! - 11/15/10 03:40 PM
Welcome to McDonalds in Owasso, Oklahoma! Now, that seems like an odd title doesn't it? And maybe even writing about McDonalds may seem like an odd thing to do. But in the famous words of John Pinette, I say "Nay, Nay!" Knowing where your local McDonalds is located is something that is inherent. In fact, because I just made that statement, you're probably already envisioning in your mind where your favorite or closest McDonalds is right now. However, when traveling you don't always know where the local McDonalds is, and that can be a problem. Oh sure, you can do a

owasso oklahoma: Speechless Sunday - Owasso Oklahoma Sunset - 11/07/10 08:15 AM
I grew up in Oklahoma and have lived here most of my life. We're located in the center of the United States and in what they call the "plains." Our country is pretty flat too, except for the Northeastern and Southern parts of our state. And we have lots of wind here too at times. A 20-40 mile per hour wind blowing all day long is just another day to us! Back when I was a kid, Tulsa had all sorts of flooding problems because, with all that flat land there wasn't anywhere for all the rain to go in heavy downpours. I

owasso oklahoma: Lake Valley Owasso Oklahoma - 09/01/10 11:20 PM
So you're looking at buying a house in Lake Valley in Owasso Oklahoma, right? And maybe you've found a great house. But what street is it on? And what is up with those Lake Valley streets anyway? They have East Avenues and Places and Street Norths. And all those Lake Valley streets twist and turn in all sorts of directions. Recently I did a search to see how up to date Google is in mapping this new Owasso Oklahoma neighborhood. As of this writing, they're not very up to date. So I went driving around Lake Valley, wrote down the streets,

owasso oklahoma: Welcome to Lake Valley in Owasso, Oklahoma! - 08/17/10 07:03 PM
Welcome to Lake Valley in Owasso Oklahoma! Lake Valley is an Owasso Oklahoma neighborhood that offers existing and new homes for sale from $130,000 to $160,000. Homes in the Lake Valley neighborhood range in size from 1200 square feet to 1800 square feet (more or less). If you're from other areas of the country, you might expect to have a basement in your Lake Valley home. However, this is not the case. Most newer Northeastern Oklahoma homes do not have basements. This is because the water table is very high in Oklahoma and basement flooding can be a major issue. As

owasso oklahoma: Andrew Looney, Owasso Oklahoma and Freedom of Speech - 07/03/10 10:27 AM
It was graduation time at Owasso High School. The year was 1985. Diane and I and our daughter sat in the auditorium watching and cheering for many of her friends who were graduating. We knew many of these kids because we had been on staff of a large church in our town for several years. We watched them grow up. That night Andrew Looney graduated. I can't say that I knew Andrew. And I can't even say that I remember specifically when he crossed the stage that night. I wish I did because Andrew Looney went on to serve America by

owasso oklahoma: Speechless Sunday - Having Fun on Top of the Snow Pile - 01/10/10 09:13 PM
It's hard to see them clearly, but these two characters are actually liitle scarecrows that someone stuck in the top of this snow pile in the Owasso WalMart parking lot. They were blowing in the wind when we drove up. It looked like they were waving to us, so we had to check them out to see what exactly they were. For information on buying and/or selling your next home in the Greater Tulsa or Owasso area, be sure to contact Bob Haywood, McGraw Realtors. owasso oklahoma: "How Come I Can't Sell my Land?" - 12/22/09 09:07 AM
"How come I can't sell my land?" As weird as it sounds, we real estate agents still get this question quite often here in Owasso. And we get it because there is a lot of property that people are trying to sell for commercial development in Owasso. And most of it isn't selling. A search of our MLS (in regards to residential lots) shows that we have 38 lots for sale right now priced between $21,500 and $75,000. We have 109 lots for sale right now priced between $76,000 and $2,000,000. That gives us a total of 147 lots for sale right now. That doesn't even include

owasso oklahoma: Speechless Sunday - Cows on the Driving Range - 12/20/09 07:39 AM
Time to MOOve! This property is located at the corner of Garnett and 106th Street North in Owasso, Oklahoma. Although hard to see, it is a driving range that went out of business. Today the cows enjoy the pasture instead of the golfers. As you can see, the property is for sale. There is another prime corner across the street that is for sale also. Go up or down Garnett and you'll find lots of other prime property for sale. The problem is that the properties are all commercial and commercial development is pretty much at a stand still in Owasso

owasso oklahoma: Speechless Sunday - A Piece of the Past in Oklahoma - 12/13/09 08:14 AM
You just never know what you're going to see when you're out showing houses. The surprises you find can be one of the fun parts of being a Realtor. This Silo sits in Collinsville, Oklahoma just off 176th Street North. Today it has trash in the bottom and no top. The construction is made up of individual blocks held together with steel bands. For complete market reports of the Owasso, Collinsville and greater Tulsa, Oklahoma area or when you're ready to buy or sell your next home, contact Bob Haywood. www.BobHaywood.com918-272-7272
