The Tennis Nets Are Back Up Around Town - Owatonna Minnesota! - 03/27/10 05:19 PM
We've beeen playing a lot of indoor tennis over the winter, but now the nets are back up around town.  Even though we might have to put up with a little bit of debris on the courts, and a few cracks here and there, we much prefer to be outside playing than inside the Owatonna Tennis Center.  Before we head outside, though, I think I'd better take advantage of a lesson or two from the in-house tennis pro.  We've made a lot of progress since we started playing about a year ago.  It's been a great way to spend time with … (1 comments)

Biking Around Owatonna - 03/25/10 03:47 PM
We are so lucky to have some great trails around town.  They provide miles of riding and walking enjoyment for the entire family.  In addition to the trails, we have a wonderful bike shop in town with some very knowledgeable folks on staff to gear the entire family up for the biking season.  Be sure to visit Ann, Katie, Deb, Scott and (last, but not least) Wayne at Straight River Sports to learn about which bike will be the best one for you.  They've got a great selection of bikes from beginners to road bike enthusiasts.  They'll even take to the … (1 comments)

Safety First! - 03/23/10 05:15 PM
As we sometimes encounter in our profession, one of our agents recently had a strange showing experience with some potential buyers.  This couple acted very oddly from the moment they stepped into the home and really created suspicion with their comments.  Fortunately, our agent knew that there were steps she could take to notify us of her concerns.  We had discussed a plan with our agents in advance and brainstormed on various ways that they could let us know if they ever felt concerned for their safety.  Her gut instinct was to react with caution and she changed her showing routine and immediately put up her guard.  The … (6 comments)

Getting Organized! It's not that bad - really - 03/12/10 01:12 PM
If your home is anything like mine, you've accumulated a fair amount of "stuff" around the house.  I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit that I still have a couple of boxes with kids' toys (my kids are now 18 and 20) that we moved from our old house 10 years ago - taking up space in my basement storage area.  I've been dedicating some time to cleaning out the clutter and I'm thrilled with the results.
It's such a great feeling - ridding my home of unused and unneeded stuff.  I'm going to be much more careful about what is worthy of keeping.  I … (2 comments)

What's the Buzz for Owatonna Real Estate? - 03/05/10 12:35 PM

Well, we're two months into 2010 and so far 33 homes have sold in Owatonna.  The average sale price of the homes that have sold is $118,175, which is down dramatically from 2009, but we do expect to see that number rise as we add more sales.  The homes that have sold have done so in an average time of 88 days on the market.  The activity that we've seen reflects the influx of investors, first time buyers, and the impact of bank-owned properties on our market.
Right now there are 235 homes for sale on the market at an … (2 comments)

Time to Put the Skis Away - What an Adventure! - 03/05/10 11:37 AM

Well, the days and nights of cross country skiing seem to be melting away.  Not that I'm complaining about the sunny, above 30 degree days that we've been experiencing all week.  It's just that I was hoping for a few more opportunities to strap the skis on.  We've seen some beautiful spots around Minnesota this winter.  We toured Forestville State Park near Preston, Nerstrand Big Woods State Park between Northfield, Kenyon and Faribault, Banning State Park near Sandstone, Owatonna's own Rice Lake State Park, and of course, Kaplan's Woods.  We skied at 5 below zero and when it was in … (2 comments)
