building permits: City inspectors should state observations but not tell buyers to get a lawyer to sue seller - 11/20/10 01:29 PM
A city building inspector was called to approve the progress of work that was already checked by a previous inspector.
He observed another situation that he deemed was done without permits.
So he said that "the buyers should go after the sellers for not disclosing this situation. They should get a lawyer and make the sellers pay for the permits and fines, and to correct this."
WHAT?
This inspector was out of line in stating his opinion especially when he didn't know the circumstances.

building permits: Ignorance is not always bliss, especially when it comes to getting permits for home alterations - 02/11/09 07:30 PM
In Alameda, and most assuredly in other cities, too, there is always a question on what alterations to a property will require permits. Granted, some folks deliberately sidestepped getting permits because of the cost, the time, and for other reasons. And others just didn't think or realize the work they're doing needed permits. On occasions, a missing or incorrect permit history may simply be a case of human error.
NO PERMITS IS A DEAL BREAKER
