What Will The Weather Be? Another Useful Side Benefit Of Reading AR Blogs - 08/29/08 07:50 AM
Will it be a washout weekend?
I have anxiously read the reports of my fellow East Coast Active Rain Friends some of whom have talked of two days of rain from the remains of some hurricane that decided to weave it's way into our lives.  I have also kept an eye on the weather forecasts of several weather outlets (you see every expert has a slightly different take on this).  I am more concerned than usual with the possibility of a major rain situation because we will be reenacting this weekend.  That means camping in canvas tents without sewn in floors. … (16 comments)

Don't Let Fear Stop You From Working Towards Home Ownership! - 08/28/08 06:00 AM
Are you like many people I have spoken with who are looking for a way to own their own home?  Perhaps you have very little money to put down on a house or your credit is in a bad way. One of the worst things you can do is to sit there and say there is no way out of this mess.  Fear of being told you can't qualify for a loan stops you from even asking.  Well if you are one of those people who is allowing fear to stop them you will never learn the many ways you might … (6 comments)

Mark Your Days Off On The Calendar Minisink Valley Central School District Parents! - 08/27/08 06:53 AM
One of the first things I like to do as a new school year begins is to mark up my calendar and scheduler for the days that the children have off from school.  Of course there can be changes during the year but at least it avoids being clueless.  For parents with young children who need to have childcare available on days when school is not in session it is essential to be ready for those oddball days that come up like Superintendents Conference Days or Staff Development Days that don't follow with the standard holiday breaks that your school follows. … (0 comments)

A New School Year Brings A New Superintendent For The Pine Bush Central School District - 08/26/08 05:57 AM
On August 1, 2008 the Pine Bush Central School District appointed a new Superintendent, Philip Steinberg.  Mr Stienburgh started his career as a teacher in Flushing High School and after being laid off during the budget cuts of the 1970's he went into private business for 25 years.  In 2000, he decided to reenter the educational realm and landed a job as a Vice Principal in a troubled Brooklyn High School.  He then went on to become a Principal at IS 218 where he turned the school around and got things done so that the kids there could succeed.  In 2005 he … (3 comments)

A Little Road Trip In a Classic Car - 08/25/08 08:20 AM
Yesterday morning my husband Dan was complaining that some of the toys in our garage (the two classic cars that he and my son own) were not being driven enough. I said so let's go for a ride.  Simple enough and especially welcome because I was tired and did not want to do anything about cleaning or finishing the laundry!  I finished up with a few real estate details, he got the car ready, and in the early afternoon we took off in our 1963 Barracuda.  He randomly choose a route up through Ellenville NY in Ulster County then we decided to … (17 comments)

Waiting for the limo to arrive            Victoria and I got to ride in the limo during pick up because there was a mix up before hand and the driver did not have the route planned out.  Actually he was unaware that he was making 15 stops to pick up 15 kids until he was on the road to pick up the birthday girl, LOL!  Anyway, being the real estate agent paid off again because I knew most of the shortcuts and we managed to get them to … (14 comments)

Today is the Big Quinceañera ... And We'll Be Dancing Yeah! - 08/22/08 06:30 AM
Today is the big Quinceañera that my daughter Nicole has waited all summer to be a part of.  We have never gone to one before so it is exciting for the whole family (well maybe not my husband who is going because he feels he should and not at all for my son who declined the invite but the girls are excited and so am I)  A quinsinera is the 15th birthday party given in honor of a special right of passage in a girl's life.  This girl's heritage is Mexican and they are doing a party of epic proportions.  I have … (16 comments)

Dealing With Homeowners Who Are In Trouble - 08/20/08 07:15 AM
I went to a presentation yesterday on Short Sales and Foreclosures presented by two attorneys.  While I did not get much help on working with buyers on short sales, which is what I was hoping for since I am primarily a buyer's agent, I got a better understanding of the complexities of these situations from the homeowners perspective.  What are they going through and what is in their best interests?  I know that there are soooo many of these situations all over the country today.  We as real estate professionals will be facing them more and more as we move out of … (24 comments)

How Google Alerts Increased My SOI - 08/18/08 11:47 AM
This morning I read a blog by Desiree Daniels on Google Alerts and how they were useful in staying ahead of the competition.  I had already set up a Google Alert for my name based on another post and plan to follow up with some key word searches.   Then, just a little while ago, I received this email from one of my classmates from the Leadership Orange program I attended.  She is a partner in an advertising and public relations firm which makes her comments doubly cool.      Hi Paddy, I have set up Google Alerts for anything having … (33 comments)

The Jonas Brothers Concert with the Pizappi Girls - 08/15/08 08:08 AM
Yesterday afternoon my daughters Nicole and Victoria and I headed out to see their favorite band, The Jonas Brothers, play.  They were so excited as we took off from home in a horrible downpour.  I was really concerned as the concert was rain or shine and we had lawn seats.  As luck would have it we arrived at beautiful Bethel Woods (on the original sight  of the famous Woodstock Festival of 1969) and found blue skies and dry lawn.Of course we got there at the crack of early, I think the girls would have slept over in the parking lot if I … (13 comments)

On Tuesday we decided to play hooky.  My husband was between jobs and my father in law had invited us to join him down at the New Jersey Shore for a break so we took advantage of the free place to stay.  I think I needed a little break after the emotional roller coaster that the Rain has been this week and besides, I am always up for a trip to the beach.   We loaded up my car with overnight bags and beach gear and headed out about 8:30 AM for our 3 or so hour drive to south Jersey. … (38 comments)

What a refreshing young couple I had the pleasure to take out looking for starter homes on Sunday.  They are not looking for the Taj Mahal. They are looking for a house that they can afford and be comfortable in.  They are willing to do the work needed to update and rehab if needed, and they have the skills and friends to help them do that.

It's a Small World In The Rain - 08/10/08 08:23 AM
Yesterday morning I was reading a blog, Great Life Lesson I Learned from a Dog.. by Celina Gleason and I looked over at the side bar and saw she was from Manning, SC.  Well it's a small world after all for sure on AR.  My house in SC is right outside of Manning and I spend a lot of time there at WalMart and other shopping meccas (it is not a big town but it has what we need there).  I emailed her to say hi.

Going to College on the Cheap - A Real Estate Question For the Experienced Among You - 08/05/08 06:28 AM
My son is planning to go to our local branch of the State University of New York, SUNY Orange, in Middletown NY and live home for this first year of college.  This used to be our County Community College but it has been incorperated into the State University system.  It is affordable and it makes sense to get the basics out of the way.  I just went with him yesterday to pay for the first semester and it was very affordable, just over $1500 for full time up to 15 credits.  Compared to many of the schools he was looking at last year, … (13 comments)

Civil War Reeacting Weekend Liberty NY 2008 - Part 2 The Camp Life - 08/04/08 09:09 AM
No trip to a Civil War Reenacting Weekend would be complete without viewing the camp life.  This is the part of the hobby that I enjoy most.  Our weekend at Liberty was memorable and fun. We had some severe thunderstorms that caused a bit of havoc on the camps and cut down on the amount of participants and public attendance but we had a great time in spite of it.  I hope you will enjoy the views of Camp Life and realize that I am not crazy after all for going out to live for a weekend in a tent that has … (18 comments)
