If you live in the Hudson Valley area or are visiting here this Labor Day Weekend and love history you should come by Museum Village in Monroe NY , (1010 Route 17M, Monroe, NY) for the Civil War Weekend which will be open to the public from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM Saturday, and 10:00 AM -4:00 PM on Sunday. This event has Union and Confederate troop encampments, reenactments of military battles both days, Civil War Era Sutlers (merchants selling quilts, antiques, reproduction clothing and accessories, and other Civil War related items), and many special presentations. I am back from another Civil War Weekend and of course that means pictures (or eye candy as my friend Carolyn says). This time the event was at Museum Village in Monroe NY. the Monroe event is held in a village of old houses and businesses. There are many spectator events and opportunities to see not only a reenactment but various old time businesses such as blacksmithing, broom making, candle making etc. The following are some of the sights of the weekend for you to enjoy. No trip to a Civil War Reenacting Weekend would be complete without viewing the camp life. This is the part of the hobby that I enjoy most. Our weekend at Liberty was memorable and fun. We had some severe thunderstorms that caused a bit of havoc on the camps and cut down on the amount of participants and public attendance but we had a great time in spite of it. I hope you will enjoy the views of Camp Life and realize that I am not crazy after all for going out to live for a weekend in a tent that has (18 comments)

As those of you who regularly check out my blog will know, this past weekend was a Civil War Weekend for the Pizappi Family. I have decided to share the weekend with you in two installments. The Camp Life Views and The Battle Views. This will be The Battle Views.We reenact to honor the men and women who believed in their causes, who fought and died in the worst war to have been fought by our country because it was brother against brother, and to always remember so it won't happen again. Our unit the 56th NY State Volunteer Infantry is co-sponsoring a weekend event at Walnut Mountain Park in Liberty NY on August 2nd and 3rd. The event will be open for spectators on Saturday and Sunday at 10 AM. There will be a special candlelight tour on Saturday night.

civil war events: Dedication for the 145th Remembrance of Gettysburg - Day 3 Picket's Charge - 07/05/08 06:42 AM
Today I post the last part of the trilogy on the three day battle of Gettysburg which tells the story of the desperation of the Confederate Army on that last day of fighting and the horrible carnage that took place as the southern troops were ordered to attack across unprotected open field. May we all remember the brave men from both sides of the war and never again turn against ourselves and fight brother against brother. (4 comments)
