First Time Homebuyers can be helped by the newly signed Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008
in the form of a tax credit of  $7500.  

This credit is available to first time homebuyers (this includes anyone who has not owned a principle residence for the past 3 years) and who's modified adjusted gross income falls below certain limits ($75000 for an individual or $150000 for a couple.)  The tax credit will be a direct deduction of the amount of tax you owe for the year it is claimed.  You should contact an accountant for exact interpretation of this … (11 comments)

But I'm not ready to buy a house!  So you know you want to buy a house someday but you are not ready yet.  What are you doing to get ready?  If you are not working towards that goal today you will not get there anytime in the near future. Potential home buyers are nervous in this market.  There are a million reasons they don't think it is the right time to buy right now.  They hear all the bad press and get "advise" from friends and relatives that tells them to wait to buy until the market bottoms out.  They don't want to be stuck buying something that goes down in value.  They can't qualify for as much mortgage money as they could previously.  They have a house to sell and don't want to loose out by selling it in a down market.
