Customer Service Chicken or Egg - 06/30/10 10:09 AM
I often blog about businesses' customer service, or the lack thereof. Companies or retail stores that just don't seem to care about their customers or realize that without customers they wouldn't have a business.
But once in a while I see the other side of the coin and am reminded of what some customers can be like if they don't get their own way.
I wanted to post the You Tube Video here, but it has been removed. Probably at the strong request of the man who had made a total fool of himself.
The man stood at the Eaton Centre's doors, … (16 comments)

Canada Day is This Thursday - 06/29/10 01:48 PM
Canada Day is July 1st, which is this Thursday.
If you're looking for something to do with your family then the following web site is the place for you to visit. It's just full of fun things to do in Kitchener and surrounding areas:
http://www.kwkids.com/CanadaDayEvents.aspx
And remember: Although your pets are a part of the family, it's probably best that you leave them at home to relax. Sometimes the heat and crowds will stress your dog out, and fireworks aren't good for them either, if you happen to be somewhere that'll be doing them.

TELUS Should Learn From Their Animals - 06/28/10 02:08 PM
One day I got an e-mail notice from TELUS. They were stopping the TELUS e-mail application and only supporting the other e-mail program called VersaMail.
When I first signed up with TELUS I looked at what VersaMail had to offer, but found it way too limiting:
It only has eight sounds compared to the 36 that Telus e-mail had.
Telus E-mail offered Notification options such as play sound, flash icon, vibrate, pulse LED, where Versamail has the sound alert option only.
Telus E-mail also had the quick messages templates, a keyboard to use for easily formatting signatures, the first screen contained all e-mail accounts … (8 comments)

I Don't Care - 06/25/10 01:14 PM
This is something that I'm guessing we have all said at one point or another, for one reason or another because we were either frustrated, had come to our wits end, felt helpless, or we actually thought something didn't matter to us at all.
But this is one of the biggest lies in human nature.
We all care on one level or another. To deny this fact is like feeding and nurturing the "I Don't Care" seed, and that seed will grow into a tree with bitter fruit that will ultimately fall to the ground and rot.
So the next time someone ticks you off; a deal … (4 comments)

It's Time She Found Someone to Love - 06/24/10 10:28 PM

My name is Kylie and out of all the cats in the Centre I have sadly been here the longest. I am a 1 year old Domestic Short Hair grey tabby with white who is already spayed. At first I am seem like a boring cat, but I am really the opposite! I love to play, you just need to figure out which toy I like. I love playing with a fake mouse on a string! I could chase it for hours! If you are looking for a fun loving cat, come meet me, Kylie!

This is Karma and She Needs YOU. - YAAAAAY - ADOPTED!!!! - 06/24/10 11:59 AM

My name is Karma! I am a 8-month old Domestic Short Haired cat who is hoping for a forever home with you very soon! My favourite game to play here at the Centre with the different volunteers is "chase the feather"! It is just a feather on a string, but it is so fun! When I am not busy playing around I love to sit and watch the different staff members and people walking through the hallways. If you are looking for a little sweet Karma in your life, come and meet me!

It's Not Luck - 06/23/10 12:07 PM
When I tell people where I live - a condo backing onto miles and miles of walking trails along the Grand River - I am told I'm "lucky".
Well, folks, luck has nothing to do with it.
When we decided to put our house up for sale in Fergus, we thought long and hard about where we wanted to move to in Kitchener:
We knew we wanted a condo - the kids were out of the nest and we weren't "backyard" people. We knew we wanted a place that would be nice to walk the dog - we are dog people and … (13 comments)

IDIOT TIPS FOR PEDESTRIANS - 06/21/10 05:46 PM
As REALTORS we drive around a lot and we see a lot of things that we just have to shake our heads at, especially when it comes to pedestrians.
When I was a kid I was told that cars can kill me, so get the heck out of their way.
Now-a-days kids, teens, and adults alike think they can do what they want because they've been told they have the right of way and drivers should always be in complete control of their vehicles.
That's fine in theory, but for those who need a reality check, I've written a few simple tips:

You're Available 24/7! Really? - 06/19/10 11:34 AM
ActiveRain's Facebook page recently posted the question:
"Since the weekend is upon us......do you keep business hours as a real estate agent? Or are you available all the time any time?"
And I was astounded by the answers. Most said they were available 24/7! A few said they were available all the time except...(which I found hilarious) and then there were the ones that said it is necessary to be available 25/8 to be successful in this industry.
Oh come on! Really?
So these people are available every minute of every day all year long? They don't shower, they don't eat, they don't have … (123 comments)

Would You Put Your Pet in an Oven? - 06/17/10 09:49 AM
Then why would you even think about leaving him/her in a car during the hot weather - even for a second!?
Did you know that on a hot day, say 85 degrees (29 celcius) the inside of a car can reach 102 degrees (39 celcius) in just 10 minutes?
Did you know that a dog's normal temperature ranges between 101 to 102.5 degrees, but he/she can only sustain a body temperature 107-108 (41-42 celcius) for a very short time before suffering brain damage or death?
Have you ever heard the saying, "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem."
Have you … (16 comments)

The K-W Humane Society Needs YOUR Help! - 06/15/10 05:55 PM
The following is a note on the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society's Facebook Page:
Pet Foster Parents Needed!
We are expanding our Pet Foster Care Program Due to the high number of cats that look to the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society to help them in their time of need, we are experiencing a cat overload. This is the time of year Centre gets an abundance of unwanted kittens, thus when people are looking to adopt they leave the older cats behind in favor of the young kittens. Our Centre does not want to see any cat be turned away due to space so we … (0 comments)

If I Had a Million Dollars... - 06/14/10 09:26 AM
Everyone has a dream.
If I had a million dollars (or more) I would buy some land and set up a not-for-profit shelter to help the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society with their burden of trying to house and feed all the pets that are given to them. This is a bitter-sweet dream, only because of the reason this service is needed. It is very sad how some people think of their pets as disposable property.
So, if you had a million dollars (or more) what would you do with it - what's your dream?

Poor Mr. Private Seller - 06/09/10 02:12 PM
A unit came available for sale in my building. No, I didn't get the listing; one of the marketing companies did. The seller wants to try to sell privately. How do I know this? Because I saw the sign on the front lawn. I also called the property manager to get the sign removed. It is against the condominium corporation's by-laws to have a For Sale sign on the front lawn.
I bet the marketing company didn't tell the seller that. I bet the marketing company didn't know.
Now, Mr. Private Seller has no signage, limiting his exposure. I would have told Mr. … (8 comments)

If You're Thinking of Selling Now Would Be Good - 06/08/10 09:13 AM
Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas are doing just fine. I suspect it is because of our thriving technology-based businesses and universities.
And sellers are reaping the rewards of buyers taking advantage of the low interest rates (which, even though they have climbed a bit are still fantastic). At least the smart sellers are, anyway...
Those smart sellers are pricing their homes right, they are getting multiple offers, and they have their homes sold for either very close to list price or over. Those smart sellers are selling before they have to pay HST on services such as contractors, lawyers, home inspectors, and yes, real … (4 comments)

Good Deeds - Wanna Share? - 06/07/10 09:21 AM
Recently, I posted about a good samaritan and how she saved me from a whole lot of grief: Once in a while someone does something great.
A while ago Peggy from "Al & Peggy Cunningham" in Brampton in part posted a story about she left her purse behind (at least we think it was Peggy's purse) and how she got it back intact: We Were Left Speechless A Few Times And Not Just on Sunday!
Both of us felt very lucky and there were many comments on my blog about how lucky I was, because there are still people in this world that … (0 comments)

Once in a while someone does something great... - 06/04/10 04:54 PM
Today my husband and I had an appointment with my financial advisor's office in Waterloo and left there with an envelope containing some very important papers.
We decided to grab some lunch at Subway a few doors down. It was a good lunch. We took about 1/2 hour to eat and then it was time to go.
Hubby dropped me off at home, so he could get back to work, I said hi to Joker (my dog), grabbed the keys to my car and then went to the print shop to take a look at a proof. I then got home, leashed my very hopeful dog and we … (14 comments)

A little inspiration to start your day... - 06/03/10 09:05 AM
Some days are better than others. Each night I take stalk of what I maybe could have done but didn't, could have done differently/better, and did do successfully and am thankful for. And each thing that happens, good or bad, I try to learn from...emphasis on try.
This is my way of getting rid of the day's baggage before I fall asleep.
Below is how Ralph Waldo Emerson saw it:
Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow … (16 comments)

What's Your Story? - 06/02/10 09:36 AM
Pet owners often start to know each other by asking what their pets' names are.
Presently, I have three pets - one dog, two rabbits.
My dog's name is Joker. When he was 8 weeks old and we were taking him home for the very first time he started whining, as new puppies do. But then he got himself so wound up that his whines turned into yelps that ultimately sounded like The Joker on Batman. He's lived up to his name in so many ways.
