el paso texas: Mirai Bowl 2 ~ El Paso, Texas - 05/21/09 12:22 PM

The Mirai Bowl is located at 1765 N Lee Trevino in El Paso, Texas, this is a great place to grab a quick and good lunch if you are in a hurry.
Everything that I have eaten here has not been a disappointment at all. The other day Julio ( my compadre) and I stopped by the Lucero's place (Mirai Bowl) to have lunch. Every time we come here we will try a new dish, so this day we decided to try the Spicy Seafood Udon and the Salmon Teriyaki.

el paso texas: Bad Location for an Activation Switch - 02/24/09 06:33 AM

Some times I wonder what installers of certain kitchen devices are thinking. It is convince, cost or both, maybe just plain laziness. The photo above one can see a electrical activation switch and outlets combined, which not uncommon. The problem with this switch being located here, is well; its goes to the kitchen sink garbage disposal. If you notice its located below the kitchen sink counter top.

Can you see the problem now, that right. Just imagine if you are busy cleaning, cooking and the little rug rat(s) is running around in his walker, T.V. on … (16 comments)

el paso texas: Don't blame her/ his cooking - 02/16/09 06:22 AM

No back-flow device present on hose bib.

All homes come with many different types of back-flow devices to prevent cross contamination of drink water and non potable (dirty water). They are present through out the house at varies area. The ones I'm going to talk about are the easiest one to find, on the exterior hose bibs.
Back-flow (anti-siphoned) prevention protects the potable water system from minor, moderate, and severe hazards. There are over 10,000 reported cases of back-flow contamination each year. Some cases … (3 comments)

el paso texas: YOU TALK TO MUCH - 02/11/09 08:28 AM
Its not uncommon to see an electrical outlet underneath a sink inside a kitchen cabinet. But what got under my skin was that the home seller was boosting about the builder how great he is and they had the house inspected by a so called reputable inspector when they bought the house and that I was not going to find anything wrong with this house.

As she was saying this, here I'm looking underneath the kitchen sink staring. I'm thinking to myself, just stay quiet and write it down. The problem is there is a electrical … (15 comments)

el paso texas: Bob-O's Family Fun Center ~ El Paso, Texas - 02/05/09 08:23 AM
This weekend we were invited to one of my son's friend birthday party at Bob-O's. There is a place, that even as a grown up can act like a kid and get away with it.
They have attractions for just about any age there. There is Laser Odyssey, batting cages, 18 Hole miniature golf course, Bumper boat, miniature go-karts, Go-karts, and of course a full array of arcades.
Bob-O's  is located on 3851 Constitution off Sunland Park Dr, which is the west side of El Paso. This a cool place to get away with the kids and do something different. … (5 comments)

el paso texas: Demand (Tankless or Instantaneous) Water Heaters - 01/16/09 01:20 AM
This here is your standard conventional hot water we are noramlly use to seeing in a home. Within the last few years a new type of hot waters are starting to be installed in new homes.

Demand water heaters are common in Japan and Europe. They began appearing in the United States about 25 years ago. Unlike "conventional" tank water heaters, tankless water heaters heat water only as it is used, or on demand. A tankless unit has a heating device that is activated by the flow of water when a hot water valve is opened. Once activated, … (13 comments)

el paso texas: Is there a difference between blown and thrown insulation? - 01/08/09 04:12 AM
This is blown insulation in an attic.

The purpose of insulation is to provide a continuous thermal barrier to minimize heat flow through the walls, ceiling and floor. Insulation serves to keep a home comfortable and reduce costs for heating and cooling. The home will not be as comfortable and energy costs will be increased if insufficient insulation is installed, or it is installed incorrectly, such as being compressed or installed with gaps. Furthermore, it is not difficult to install insulation correctly.Criteria for a Quality Thermal EnvelopeInsulation should:   1. Provide a continuous barrier between the inside conditioned space … (7 comments)

el paso texas: Sooo.........what your cooking? - 11/20/08 02:11 AM
A question I have for today's career woman or single guy's is, do you use your kitchen range to cook or it easier to use a microwave to cook your meals. I myself do not use the microwave so must as to cook , but more for reheating left-overs or foods that require little time to heat up instant of using the oven. There are two type of ranges, they is gas and electric type. The reason some people prefer electric ranges they say is because they are afraid of gas appliances, here in the southwest region it appears that gas … (11 comments)

el paso texas: Hydro heat, what's that? - 11/06/08 03:25 AM

What is the difference between a forced air heating unit and a hydronic heating system. A forced air system has a burner compartment supplied by either natural or propane gas, transferring the heating through a heat exchanger with a flue vent.  The warm air is forced through supply ducts by a blower distributing it out at a register or diffusers.

A hydro heat system uses a natural hot heater to provide space heating as well as domestic hot water in household usage.

el paso texas: Squeeze me, PLEASE.......... - 10/27/08 04:16 PM

The house I was inspecting today had a crawlspace. During the inspection I was looking for an access point in the interior of the house. That because the access on the exterior is to small and restricted, all I could do was just to put my face at the opening. The opening was about 8-10 inch. I was just going to write it up as inaccessible. Than I thought, I’ll just stick my camera into the opening and start taking picture in the blind. I’m so glad I did.

el paso texas: I almost got tricked! - 10/18/08 11:01 AM

Yesterday I was inspecting a quadplex for an investor and of course all the units were tenant occupied. On the first unit on the hot water heater I noticed it had a recently replaced T&P (Temperature & Pressure) relief valve.
T&P valves are designed to relief the water pressure of over 150 degrees F to protect the glass liners from cracking.
At a glance I observed a problem with the exhaust line on the T&P valve,  the first thing it has an incorrect coupling installed, the second is the wrong type of materials used as an exhaust line.

el paso texas: Dancing the roof tops - 10/14/08 04:58 AM
Concrete slate tiles have to be the most difficult type of roof cover to inspect. They are hard to walk on because of the flat surface. If one misses a step incorrectly the tile will crack. Many inspectors will not attempt to walk on this type of roof cover for that reason. If one doesn't have the experience on walking this type of roof cover, do not do it.

On the bottom left corner of the picture there is a cracked tile. Couple more tiles were found cracked not shown here on the pictures. … (7 comments)

el paso texas: Cultural Crossroads - Chamizal National Memorial - 10/08/08 05:23 AM
Chamizal National Memorial celebrates Mexican-American friendship and goodwill.
It is a memorial to the peaceful settlement of a long standing dispute over the location of the international boundary between El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juarez in Chihuahua Mexico. On August 29, 1963, after more than a century of arguing about who owned the piece of land that was created by the meandering of the Rio Grande, the question was finally settled by the Convention of the Chamizal.

el paso texas: Scenic Drive "The Best of the Border" at night - 10/07/08 03:45 PM

This the night scene one would see from Scenic Drive. Its a beauty.
Many young couples still visit Scenic Point as part of a romantic date,
just like their parents and grandparents did.

From this photo one can see the outline of the Border and !-10 Freeway.
Tourists and natives alike use the coin-operated telescopes to magnify a
particular view as they gaze out over two countries and the sparkling night lights.

The area before the construction of Scenic Drive was known as Stormsville,
and the city considered it a public health nuisance. D. … (7 comments)

el paso texas: Scenic Drive "The Best of the Border" - 10/07/08 08:50 AM

As early as 1881, El Paso leaders promoted the idea of creating a place along the base of the Franklin Mountains to provide visitors a panoramic view of the area The automobile brought new attention to the idea, and in 1920, the city council and Mayor Charles Davis approved construction of a Scenic Drive. Finished in October 1920, the route became a popular attraction.

The 1.82 mile drive reaches an elevation of 4,222 feet, 500 feet above the Rio Grande. In 1932, the city contracted to widen and pave the road, and in 1934, Civilian Conservation … (3 comments)
