Homeless In Needham - 11/30/07 04:48 PM
I just finished reading an article in one of our local papers about a woman in my town and I had to share it here.  Mrs. Leonard has been a professional who has really fallen on some bad times.  It seems that about 10 years ago when she was 59 years old she decided to do some investing.  She invested in Enron & WorldComm and we know the rest of the story on those 2 companies and their bankruptcies.  She ran out of money and even the attorney she hired failed her.  She said, "Once you hit poverty, there ain't ever … (11 comments)

Our Historical/Hysterical Home? - 11/24/07 10:05 PM

You will be amazed that I lived here!
My neighbor thinks when I get to heaven I will get a purple heart!
We purchased our home in December 1, 1971.  The house was built in 1870.  The original house was 4 rooms much like some other properties near mine.    The house was owned by one family from the early 1900's and they raised a large family in the original 4 rooms with a pot belly stove, soap stone sink, and beautiful wide panel floors.  My brother-in-law bought the house in 1969 and completely rehabed it or so "he thought."  My husband is so … (0 comments)

Needham Market Report - 11/21/07 08:28 PM
There are some dynamic changes in the number of sales in a lot of the communities here.  Most dramatic being Dover with 160%.  I look at these and I am encouraged.  The luxury markets are still strong.  Median prices have basically moved down except for Dover and Dedham.   These are very interesting stats I think.

Needham - 11/16/07 08:01 PM
Well there is one more thing about Thanksgiving that I think of and that is wonderful Owen's Poultry Farm.  It happens to be within walking distance of my house.  That was great place to go when my son was growing up.  We would walk over to see the chickens, turkeys, pheasants, bunnys, pigs, horses, cows, emus, lambs, roosters, geese and occasional ducks.  It was great. I didn't have to jump in the car.  Now I have 3 wonderful grandchildren that I also take over to Owen' Poultry Farm on 585 Central Avenue, Needham .  Prior to Thanksgiving they have  kept a … (0 comments)

Thanksgiving in Needham brings a couple of great events to mind.
Needham High School and Wellesley High School holds the national record for the oldest (public schools) Thanksgiving day football game.  Only interrupted once in 1921. It is now 125 years since Arthur Judson Oldman posed the challenge to the students nearby to a "friendly game of ball."
In honor of this annual football event the Rotary Clubs of Needham and Wellesley host a dinner on the Tuesday evening before the game and invite the football teams and coaches.  They include a speaker who is usually a  professional athlete and it is just … (0 comments)
