Each year Rankin County promotes a Spring Clean-Up Week. Dumpsters are placed throughout the county so residents can conveniently dispose of unwanted items. I'm pleased to provide this information to assist homeowners in de-cluttering and the proper disposition of hazardous materials.
RANKIN COUNTY CLEANUP WEEK April 18th – April 23rd, 2016
Items accepted include: WHITE GOODS (Appliances) - OLD TIRES - TRASH, LIMBS
Dumpster Locations in Rankin County for Bulky Items
Hazardous materials should be carried to the Multipurpose Pavilion at 649 Marquette Road in Brandon between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 23rd. Examples of hazardous material includes paint, paint thinner, oils and fluids, varnish, ammonia, etc. Click here … (2 comments)
Update as of 10/20/2015: Governor Phil Bryant has issued an emergency Statewide burn ban!
It is HOT and DRY in many Mississippi counties. Weeks have passed without any measurable rainfall. Because of this, several counties are under a mandatory burn ban.
Hinds and Madison County issued burn bans in mid July. Rankin County Board of Supervisors added Rankin County to the list on August 4th.
The burn ban is in effect for 30 days from the date issued. If conditions change, the ban could be lifted. Always check with your local county government or … (3 comments)
rankin county ms: Rankin County Requires Utility Permit and Inspection When House Sells

When utilities (electric, water, gas) are transferred from one owner or tenant into the name of the new occupant, Rankin County now requires an application and permit. Whether renting OR buying, this requirement must be met before the utility company will activate your account.
This law was adopted in 2013 and applies to ALL PROPERTIES LOCATED OUTSIDE CITY LIMITS BUT WITHIN RANKIN COUNTY.
This provision has caused confusion and frustration to homebuyers who are unaware of the ordinance. My recommendation is to begin the process of transferring utilities at least a week prior to closing to avoid delays.
