prairie: Where is spring in Post Falls Idaho? - 03/20/12 02:39 AM
Well, here it is, the first day of spring and we were greeted with a white landscape this morning, on the way into work.  March is certainly not letting go of our wintry weather very easy.  And here I had in my mind that it is time to plant the tomato seeds.  Guess I will hold up for another week on that project.  This is the time of the year that I really want to get out in the yard and start taking care of the winter brown.  They tell us that by Sunday we will be up in the fiftys … (1 comments)

prairie: Update from the prairie here in Post Falls Idaho - 01/19/12 04:33 AM
Just an update from out here on the prairie in Post Falls, Idaho.  We finally got some snow and it has been easy to push around, as there is not too much moisture in it. I will take this type of light snow anytime.  Just got off the phone with our son in the Seattle area; they are having an ice storm, he has no power, has a power line down across the road, and is not able to get an estimate of when it will be repaired as there are many lines down and lot and lots of people with … (0 comments)

prairie: A day for Giving Thanks - 11/24/11 06:09 AM
A day for giving thanks.  It is my hope that everyone will take some time to remember the many blessings of the past year.  I have bird stuffed, and in the oven, and the side dishes are all in different stages of being prepared.  We have started the day here on the prairie with sunshine and temperatures in the low 30’s.  We have been told by those who are in the know by mid afternoon there will be a new storm front coming thru, bringing rain.
We will not let the weather get in our way of having a glorious day … (3 comments)

prairie: Holiday Tradition since the 1930s - 11/23/11 01:28 PM
Well, here we go down memory lane, as I start to prepare for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow.  I have Thanksgiving dinner at our home on the prairie, here in Post Falls, Idaho.  One of the traditional dishes that I prepare is a molded Cranberry salad that has been made for holiday dinners in our family since sometime in the 1930s.  My grandmother started this tradition and so here we are 2011 and I just finished making this very tasty dish.  Here is the recipe if anyone is interested.

1 bag fresh cranberries cleaned & chopped
            1 cup walnuts or … (2 comments)

prairie: Quiet day on the prairie in Post Falls Idaho - 11/13/11 10:08 AM
Snow did arrive here on the prairie, but with the wind and sunshine it quickly disappeared. I have a picture here of Rathdrum Mountain and as you can see there is bit of snow there.  This is my view everyday from the back patio.  Pretty nice don’t you think?  Anyway we are being told that there are 3 or4  storm systems backed up in the Pacific and we are going to have much more snow very soon.  So the snow pictures will be along soon.  Otherwise it is a slow day on the prairie.

prairie: Beautiful Fall days in North Idaho - 11/10/11 09:10 AM
Well here it’s another beautiful day in North Idaho, hard to believe that snow is predicted in the next few days. Maybe the snow will only happen in the mountains and keep our streets, down here on prairie, clear. Don't get me wrong I love to see the snow on the trees and in the fields. I love to see the game birds looking for food and sunning themselves with their feathers all puffed out. But I hate to give up these fall days with the trees trying to hang onto their leaves, and we have had a really good fall … (3 comments)

prairie: Carrot harvest in Post Falls Idaho - 11/05/11 10:35 AM
Well we are having a cool day here on the prairie in Post Falls Idaho.  I guess Indian summer is over.  I was out pulling carrots from the garden and thought I'd share with you how nice the carrots have been this year.  The carrots have been nice, straight and plump. They are between 9 and 10 inches long.  It was a good crop this year.
We have been having hard frosts at night, as low as 23 degrees, but we did not get the snow that was to come our way a few days back. Now they are saying by next weekend … (3 comments)
