No, of course not! I am intentional, however.
I returned to the office today after taking a new listing of a house I know I can sell. That's a good thing! Another agent friend of mine asked how the appointment went and I told him that I had to be a little "down and dirty" with the seller. Specifically, I told the seller that I wouldn't list and put my sign out front until she did some deep cleaning inside and out. I was rather pointed about what needed to be done so that we could get the best possible price, in the shortest time frame. My friend said I was mean and that I shouldn't be that "honest." "NOT BE HONEST?" With someone I want to be in business with???
Frankly, I think I would be "mean" if I agreed to list a property for a seller and not give them all the tools they need for us to successfully market their house for a quick sale. Isn't that why a homeseller chooses to hire a real estate professional after all?
I live and work in the south metro Atlanta market in Henry County. Much of my business is in McDonough, but I also sell in the surrounding areas. I know the market. I know what is available.......which is considerable, and I know what buyers are looking for today. They will only overlook dirt and clutter and unkempt lawns, etc., if the property is an absolute BARGAIN.......and there are plenty of bargains around.
So, I asked my friend what he thought was "mean" about honesty. He really wanted out of the conversation by now, but I pressed. In the end, we resigned that we have our own styles and that his style works for him and my style works for me. I told him that even if he wanted to think of me as a "mean" person, he had to at least know that I made a new friend today and I smiled the entire time I was being mean!
