Learning to be joyful in all of the situations and circumstances in our lives is a tough concept. It is a biblical concept first and one that is easier said than done. As I have lived my life thus far on this earth, we live our lives in the ebb and flow of joy, sorrow, fear, elation, love, loss, success, failure, laughter and sadness. It is easy to be joyful in the good times no doubt. The challenge comes in looking for joy during the tough times. I believe it is something (4 comments)

The waiting however, has paid off as our new website is up and LIVE and looks fantastic! A classy design with a lot of moving parts that get the message across as to the scope of our work! Take a minute to visit the new site and feel free to leave us your feedback and input. We want to hear from you! Your comments are important to us. Our goal was (7 comments)

As Tropical Storm Don churns into the Gulf yesterday, there are a lot of preparations. After going through Ike a few years ago, there are some things as an agent that I learned and would like to share with you. As a listing agent, there are some important things you can do to be as prepared as you can. Make sure that you have an updated contact list of all of your clients with good phone numbers and emails. As the storm approaches and looks as if it could (11 comments)
As we see our first named tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico, it is always a good reminder of what to do to prepare in the event a tropical storm, depression or hurricane comes your way. Waiting until the last minute is not a wise thing to do. Get cracking now in order to prepare for a storm this season. After what the Houston area went through with Hurricane Ike a few years ago, most of us around here take the warnings very seriously. No electricity, gasoline, phone service etc. for many weeks (12 comments)
Wow, I would have never guessed that my post yesterday about Non-Realty items would have sparked such an interesting conversation. The number of comments however, suggests that this is a huge topic indeed. One comment in particular sparked this post. You can read the comments in order to ascertain the comment for yourself. The gentleman referred as he put it, "to not go out of our way to do anything that would be considered above and beyond real estate." I ruminated upon that comment for just a few minutes before (10 comments)
I read two great posts yesterday about the topic of non-realty items that inspired me to write this piece. Thanks to Nick Pappas yesterday when he wrote an excellent post about this exact topic. I have been seeing more and more blogs about this topic and thought I would share why I choose to not deal with non-realty items. First of all, let me say that of course I will assist a buyer or seller with an occasional appliance such as a refrigerator or washer and dryer. I would advise the buyer however, to have these items (132 comments)
As we all live our lives each and every day, do we really LIVE those days or merely just go through the motions? What does it mean to LIVE LIFE FULLY? This is a personal question and has different meaning for different people. For me, LIVING FULLY MEANS: Appreciating even the smallest of things such as watching a baby sleep. Taking the time to THANK others for simple things. TELLING others how they have impacted my life. Not being afraid to take a day off when I need to. Being thankful for the day (10 comments)
I have always loved the idea of a porch! Back in the day almost all houses had a porch where neighbors and friends could just hang out and visit. The new group, Broker's Back Porch is just that kind of place. If you are a Broker or an agent working on getting your broker's license, I invite you to come hang out with me on my porch! This will be a place to share our thoughts, challenges, success, tears and of course our personal lives. Basically, this is a place for friends. I hope (12 comments)
Recently I had buyers who pulled out of a contract near the end of their option period after taking the time to go by the property at night. They called me early the next morning to let me know that on a whim they decided to drive out and take a look after dark. What they discovered made a world of difference. The home was lovely, completely renovated inside and on three lovely acres. Originally there had been some concern that the property backed up to a pretty busy road. (8 comments)
130 N. Almondell, The Woodlands, TX is a wonderful home located in the new area of The Woodlands, May Valley. This FIVE bedroom, FIVE and 1/2 bath home is loaded to the hilt as it was the former Highland Homes Model. Extensive landscaping creates a beautiful entrance and front yard. Here in The Woodlands, a nice lease home is difficult to come by as they fly off of the market very quickly. With our very transient area, there is always a need for high-end corporate lease options. With the announcement of the Exxon/Mobile campus being built just south of The Woodlands, the entire north Houston area is experiencing a boost. The Greenspoint area is located along the I-45 corridor, close to Bush International Airport and The Sam Houston Tollway. The Greenspoint district is only 15 minutes north of downtown Houston and only 10 minutes to The Woodlands. There are many development incentives along with a lot of prime real estate structures and locations for businesses. Many top companies are currently choosing the Greenspoint district as their home. HOUSTON ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS JUNE MARKET REPORT - 07/19/11 03:44 PM
HOUSTON ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS JUNE MARKET REPORT The news is good for the Houston area. The latest data shows an increase in many market indicators. Most exciting is that the average single family home price is up and things are looking much better overall for the entire Houston area. With home sales rising for the second time this year, we are all very optimistic. The average price reached an all-time high in June which is simply outstanding considering that as a country overall, things have been down. This is a 3.7 percent rise from last June. Additionally, total pending sales increased by (5 comments)
I posted my Top Ten Things I Love About Real Estate earlier and Gordon Selley said I needed to add some humor. So Gordon, I have now had my coffee and this one is for YOU! 10. Losing shoes while touring a muddy property! (This really happened by the way!) 9. Walking in on teenagers rubbing uglies during a showing. Sorry, no easier way to put it. 8. Having the client shut the back door as we tour the back yard and locking us out! 7. Showing property in triple digit heat and having sweat (17 comments)

Remember the television show Bowling for Dollars? If you are of a certain age, this show should bring back memories. This was a fun show where you could bowl and hopefully win some money. I have found that blogging has been an effective method for me "earning some money"! Rather than rolling a ball down a narrow alley, I write effective, timely, fun and local blog posts. These posts reach an unlimited number of people and boost me in the search engines. The more that I continue blogging, the more referrals that I am getting as well (6 comments)
As we wind down another week, I hope that you were able to do some of what is pictured above. Relaxing with a friend in the sun! Ah, what a great way to be. No worries, warm sun and a best bud to share it with. Life is precious so make sure that you take the time to learn how to unwind and recharge those batteries. I am rested and ready to face a new week with whatever challenges might be ahead for me. In our business, anything can happen and change at any (9 comments)
What an amazing week with a great commercial closing as well as the birth of my new Grandson. And of course, I can't take my eyes or my hands off the little guy. Just looking at that tiny little man I can't help but to pray over him for God's wisdom and guidance throughout his life. It is difficult for me to understand how someone cannot see the wonder of new life as God's divine creation. To think that only 9 months ago, this fully formed human was a single cell. 9 months is not that much time (16 comments)
1913 Gillete Streetis now under the status of PENDING SALE! After only 41 days on the market, this Midtown condominium is under contract and heading toward a quick close. As condominium sales have diminished nation-wide, this is great news for our local market. Mid-town in Houston is a thriving urban re-development area that is really coming into its own. With the headaches and cost of a commute, inner-city living is becoming more attractive for people. The trend appears to be gaining momentum as more condos, lofts and townhomes continue (4 comments)
Yesterday as I was heading out of The Woodlands, it occurred to me that there were an unusually high number of cement mixers on the road. One after another just kept on coming. Why this was so important is that it made me realize how few of these I have seen in awhile. Although our market has remained steady, new construction had become a bit sluggish in the past few years. We used to see tons of cement mixers and never gave them a second glance except to be frustrated when (1 comments)
Have you learned the art of listening and really hearing what your clients are saying? The art of being "tuned in" is essential if you want to be the best agent that you can. In this day and age of IM, email, chat rooms, voice mail and other types of media communication, one can easily lose the art of connecting personally with your clients. I know that I have been guilty of this and it pains me to admit it. I would never knowingly tune someone out but it is just so overwhelming sometimes when things (5 comments)
Those of us in real estate can completely relate when life collides with our profession. Yesterday I witnessed two different births. It was a day of joy, blessings and new beginnings. As we live our lives and intertwine them with what we do for a living, many times we will have days like I just had. The day began with a phone call from my daughter that her labor had begun. Being only about 20 minutes away, I knew that I had some time to get some things done before I would need (14 comments)

I have some Google Licious news! What a great day for my Active Rain blogging efforts! I have been diligently been exercising my little fingers to the bone posting blogs for a little over a year now. In fact, I have now written 667 of them! Today, ALL OF MY EFFORTS are paying off! An offer on a property is always a good thing. It means we have a buyer who wants to buy and there is some interest in the property. When receiving an offer, it is always advisable to take the time to really look over the ENTIRE offer not just the price. Often a Seller will receive an offer and the first thing they look at is the offering price. Many times if they don't like the offer, they become stuck on it and fail to really look at the rest of the offer. This (18 comments)
The Children's Museum here in The Woodlands is offering camps all summer long. It is not too late to sign up! They are offering two different sessions either 9-noon or 1 to 4. The sessions look like tons of fun too! Located at 4775 West Panther Creek Drive Suite 280, the museum is convenient and easy to get to. The kids will love all of the activities offered and parents can feel good about their children having fun while learning at the same time! Of course the museum is open daily and offers a very reasonable admission rate. With this (0 comments)

Sunday is such a great to reflect on many things. Today I am focusing on how I can be a blessing to my clients. I might not always get them the deal that they want or sell their home when they wish however, I do try and be there for my clients. How do you really "be there" for your clients? For me it means answering my calls, listening to their needs, advising them with the truth always, making the process of buying and selling as stress-free as possible, maintaining a professional demeanor no matter what and staying (5 comments)
I have started asking a new question on my listing appointments. Asking a Seller what they expect from me is a simple yet very important question. Knowing up front what the expectations are help me to know if this potential client is realistic or if they have expectations that I just cannot meet. Here are some of the ways that I might guide this conversation a bit further: How do you like to be communicated with? Phone, email? How often do you expect communication? I have often been surprised at this one. Sometimes (13 comments)
It is always good when another great property closes and there are new, happy homeowners. This fantastic home is located in the neighborhood Crown Oaks. A wonderful 3 acre lot with a fantastic custom home, this listing didn't last long. Chevaux Group successfully listed and sold the home in less than 120 days. Not bad in this tricky market. The good news is that we are seeing sales up significantly along with days on market going down. Both are indicators of a recovering market. If you are (6 comments)
WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOUR REAL JOB? - 07/07/11 09:53 AM
WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOUR REAL JOB? I called a listing agent yesterday afternoon to gather some information about the property. I have a very interested client and needed additional data. When I called the agent and he couldn't speak with me because as he quoted, "I am at my REAL JOB right now and will have to call you back." Excuse me? Did he mean that real estate is NOT a real job? And, is he really able to fully represent his client if he doesn't consider real estate to be a real job? This perplexes me greatly. For the record, (12 comments)

While visiting Chicago this past weekend, I was thrilled to attend my first baseball game at Wrigley Field. This field is a wonderful, outdoor facility full of great history. To top it off, the game was between cross town rivals the Cubs and the White Sox. There is just nothing more all-American than a great baseball game. The stands were full of fans from both teams and it was quite colorful and lively to say the least. It was a hot day in Chicago yet a perfect day for baseball. Enjoyed hitting the pubs (14 comments)
As I reflect on what today really means - FREEDOM, I came to ponder all of the things that I take for granted that are FREE to me: FREEDOM to worship how I wish to. FREEDOM to vote. FREEDOM to choose my line of work. FREEDOM to live where I choose. FREEDOM to speak my mind. FREEDOM to write what I wish. FREEDOMto bear arms. FREEDOM to travel. FREEDOM to be educated. FREEDOM to make my own decisions. None of these FREEDOMS came FREE however. These rights were won through the blood of our forefathers (6 comments)
What a joy it was today to attend services at the United Methodist Church Chicago Temple this morning! Just a short walk through the city on a beautiful Sunday morning, the temple majestically welcomed us as we headed out on W. Washington Ave. This church has a long and rich history dating back to 1831. The church is exquisite and architecturally intriguing. Gorgeous spires grace the top of the building along with plenty of handsome carved features. A collection of some of the most beautiful stained glass adorns the sanctuary. The sanctuary itself is (4 comments)
CHICAGO SCENES! Visiting Chicago for me has been a learning experience and fun. There is so much to do that I have to simply pace myself and accept that I won't be able to do everything on this trip. So, I will just do what I can and enjoy the sites. The picture to the left is a beautiful park that is dedicated to Cancer Survivors. There are positive and uplifting plaques throughout the park. Also there is informative plaques on what to do if faced with cancer. The park is situated high up and you can look down to see (6 comments)
Yesterday as I was leaving Navy Pier here in Chicago, I encountered one of those people who will forever stay with me. An individual who was born with severe challenges yet gets up, gets dressed and does what he can. Bear with me, this story is important. We all see those folks on the corner with their cans out asking for money. Sometimes they offer to shine your shoes, play music, wash your windshield or simply just ask. This man caught my attention. As he sat in his wheelchair it was evident that he (6 comments)
As a newbie to the great city of Chicago, I have had a super fun time in the last 24 hours! The Segway tour is an absolute must! A two hour tour of some of the best parts of the city. And, those Seqways are super fun! Doesn't take long at all to get the hang of it! The Field Museum is also a mus-see! Right now there is a fantastic horse and whale exhibit. The building that the museum is in is absolutely gorgeous too. Very historical and architecturally impressive. This (6 comments)
