Why you should relocate to DuPont Washington!

It is very simple why most of my clients chose DuPont over other areas, small town atmosphere vs. urban sprawl.

The town of DuPont is not new by any means. It started as a company town with just a few houses, a butcher shop and a hotel, built by explosives manufacturer E.I du Pont de Nemours Co. in 1906 to house the workers at the explosives plant. The workers bought their homes in 1951, at which time the town was incorporated.

In the early 1990s a vision for a new DuPont Washington was in the planning stages. In 1994 the first development broke ground of what would be called NW Landing. The planners wanted a small town atmosphere with tree-lined streets and distinctive Craftsman-style architecture. They succeeded with an award winning 3,200-acre mixed use planned community. My clients love the ability to walk or bike to local restaurants, coffee shops or commute to work at such places such as Fort Lewis, Intel, or State Farm Insurance among a handful of other businesses.

Quality of life is so very important to people who have orders to transfer into the area.

Newer schools with high quality education
Walking and bike paths abound
A very short commute to Fort Lewis or the Madigan Army Medical Center
A transit center to Tacoma, Olympia, and Seattle

I have represented over 37 home buyers and sellers since 1999 that purchased homes in DuPont Washington, none have regretted the decision.

What's up with direct marketing catalogs?

My mail box explodes this time of year with catalogs. My wife calls to discontinue our name on their mailing list only to find more catalogs still arriving from these people. Rather than being taken off the list, we get duplicates.

This is a picture of yesterday’s bounty!

So you ask, what’s the problem?

I get 10 catalogs at my home address

10 at my billing address

maybe 5 at my office address

Now duplicates, when my wife called!

What happened to all the new cars?

Have you been out shopping for a new car lately? The selection is dreary to say the least. My wife and I went to six different car dealerships, only to find obscure models or cars with very odd colors.

The dealer’s sales people all offered to order a specific model, just the way we wanted, built to our specifications. We were told by one dealer that if we ordered a car it would be at full market price and would not be eligible for any specials or rebate prices. We were also told that our trade in would be revalued at the time that our new car was delivered; this would be in 8 to 12 weeks.

Remember when you would be able to go to the dealer and drive home with what you wanted. This will only be a fond memory now. Welcome to the new world order of car dealerships…

The Shady Side of DuPont WA...

I was raised in a Air Force family. I am a veteran of both the Army and Navy myself. These experiences have given me a pretty good view of most communities around military installations. Granted many of these towns around our nation have been cleaned up but the stigma remains. DuPont Washington never had to clean up a bad part of town as it was never a bad place to live.
Imagine my surprise, when a client, told me that he didn't want to look at homes in DuPont. He was from a military family and his mom and dad told him to stay clear of any town adjacent to any military base. They warned of prostitution, massage shops, pawn shops and shady characters. I had sent him pictures of homes in his price range, that he liked, and he said to take him through the shadiest part of DuPont. I took him to, just outside, the tallest building in town. (Pictured Above)
DuPont is prime example of where most people want to live when they relocate with their families.

Great schools
Tree lined streets
Short commute
Low crime
A good mix of single family homes and condos (Built Since 1995)
Great transit center, soon to add trains
Bike and walking trails abound
Six public golf courses within 10 miles, one chosen for the 2015 (P.G.A.) US Open.

Life is great In DuPont! My client not only got the home he wanted, he qualified for the $8000 tax credit...

About a month ago, an agent in my office asked if I would write a Linkedin recommendation for them. I did with a smile and thought of it as a compliment.

Last Friday, I went on a listing appointment and the seller kept asking me questions about this other agent. I found this odd and asked the seller why the listing appointment had turned into a testimonial for this other agent. The seller pulled out a pre-listing packet with a glowing testimonial by me of this other agent. I was taken aback at first, but then remembered writing the recommendation. Crazy as it may be;

I did write the recommendation

I thought it was limited to the online service

I do feel the other agent is all that I said she was

Is it bad form to use it in a pre-listing packet or am I just being a poor sport. I have never had, something I wrote, used to promote another agent over me at a listing presentation. This basically took me out of my rhythm for my presentation. I have keys that I use by the questions the seller asks but all that kept coming to my mind was this testimonial.

Should I confront the other agent but what can I say?
