An Artsy Side of Vegas? Downtown Container Park; a New kind of Green!
While Fluff My House! Home Staging was at the Real Estate Staging Association 2014 (#resacon) conference in Vegas last week, I took a stroll to see Freemont Street with Lynda B. Schmidt; a fellow Canadian Stager.

Lynda has a powerful urge to take the roads less traveled & because of her I got to see some things in Las Vegas I normally would not have seen.
Freemont Street is what you would expect, we missed the light show because it was … (5 comments)

Some Jokes Hit Close to Home... Being Able to Laugh is Good!
Since I have bought my place in Summerland, BC, I have had the misfortune of meeting  a few contractors & trades people that are less than desirable. It's interesting, because as the Flufftastic Fairy from Fluff My House! Home Staging Inc. I have the opportunity to recommend contractors & trades to clients I have here in the Okanagan...

Many weren't even interested in working on my place, or were too busy, so that made the ones who actually answered the phone, or called back extremely enticing...

The first contractor I … (20 comments)

Still Here... Still Pluggin' Along...
I, (the Flufftastic Fairy, from Fluff My House! Home Staging Inc.) haven't been blogging much because I have been renovating my new place... in Summerland, BC.

It's about halfway there... (probably more than that, but it seems I still have so much to do...)
Anyway I have had requests to see the progress, so I thought I would post some pix...

Remember it was gutted down to the studs & most of the walls moved or removed at one point, so I guess it has come a long way... :)

The wall on the right was … (26 comments)

Penticton Farmers Market; Where You Can Buy Local Every Saturday, Spring to Fall!
For those in the know; I am not just the Flufftastic Fairy. My alter ego is BAM-a-Lam, Balloon Animal Maker extraordinaire (lol)...
So when I moved to Summerland, BC, in late June this year I decided I would work at the local Farmer's Markets to make money while Fluff My House! Home Staging Inc. got up & running.
Non-rainy Saturdays have been spent at the Penticton Farmer's Market located on 4 to 5 blocks of Main Street Penticton from 8am - 2 pm. The hours are actually 9 - 1 pm … (6 comments)

Who Says Business Cards Won't Make People Remember You?!?
I had an email contact from my Fluff My House! website yesterday.
A lady from Minuteman Press, in Edmonton, who had handled the printing of my brochures & business cards was asking about Staging a vacant condo they owned that had been on the market for 8 months already.
She said once her Realtor had suggested Staging she had remembered me from my biz cards & looked up my information!

InfoGraphics! What's Not to Like!?!
While perusing my facebook feed, here in Edmonton, I came across this really great infographic by elocal.com.
A breakdown on renovations a homeowner might think about doing & the ROI of that renovation.
I think it's a great deal of information we can use to help our clients, because we at Fluff My House! Home Staging Inc are always getting asked questions about renos.
Now you can just send them this or send them to elocal.com!

Buying Rental Properties; Not as Easy as You'd think! Part 2
Aside form Fluff My House! Home Staging in Edmonton, my newest endeavor (with my hubby Dave) is Rent Property Edmonton.

Alberta's booming economy & the influx of workers from other provinces & countries has made us finally take the steps to start the search for investment properties.
But so far we are 0 for 2.
Both of the places we have made offers on have been scooped by someone else in less than 24 hours by someone else. Or we have found that a property less than 600 sq … (6 comments)

Buying Revenue Properties; Not as Easy as You'd Think...
Along with my Staging biz: Fluff My House! Home Staging Inc., I have (with my hubby Dave) decided to start a rental property biz; Rent Property Edmonton.

We have been searching since before Xmas for one or two income suites/homes that we can have positive cash flow on.
We had made an offer on a foreclosure that had been on the market for around 4 months with no action & then voila as soon as we made an offer ($24K under asking, hey there had been no action for more than … (7 comments)

fluff my house: Have You Calculated What it Costs to NOT Stage Your Home For Sale? - 10/29/12 01:43 AM
Have You Calculated What it Costs to NOT Stage Your Home For Sale? Many home owners balk at the thought of spending money on a home they are selling. They want to make money on it so they can have a better new home.Savvy Sellers know; to make money sometimes you have to spend a little & Staging a home has been proven to change the appearance, appeal & days on market.

But what about the owners who won't spend money on Staging? Are they really saving?

Carrying costs, mortgage, utilities, insurance, etc. can add up when a house doesn't … (26 comments)

Home Staging is Like Music! Leaving Room to Breathe...Recently, in an article in Canadian Home Trends Magazine, I was quoted as saying: "Picking items for a stage is always like Christmas. I’ll forget I had something or remember how much I liked an item and can’t wait to use it. Often I pack too much, because I want to use it all! Sometimes I have to remember to edit, because Staging is about ‘air’ (empty space) in a room, space to breathe. It’s like music: as a musician I know that silence is a part of music, just like air is … (14 comments)

Divorce Dust: It Doesn't Just Apply to Renovations...
Mike Holmes, Canadian Contractor and HGTV personality, often describes reno's gone wrong and the stress that comes with it "divorce Dust".

(Photo courtesy Mike Holmes & Face book)

Couples going through this strain will often argue constantly sometimes to the point of no return.
The mess, the stress and the financial burden and expectations/letdowns can become too much.

It can be that way when people are selling their home as well.
Someone may have been transferred to another city or need to sell their home quickly for another reason.
Realtors know that clutter is … (13 comments)

Flufftastic Hints! Fold a Fitted Sheet So it's as Small as Your PillowFew people like doing laundry. And No One likes folding fitted sheets! They always look like a disaster no matter how neatly you try to fold them. Here's a relatively simple way to fold a fitted sheet so you can stack them, & the rest of the sheet set, on your shelf neatly & compactly! And you won't lose any of the sheet set pieces!Find the two seamed corners on one side. (doesn't matter end or side, but not kitty corner) make sure both are inside out.

Holy-Chaos-Batman! Edmonton Home Staging Stays Home!
So life can get crazy, yes?How much of it do we bring on ourselves?
Our neighbourhood has been going to get refurbished with new fancy street lights and sidewalks as well as our street paved, which it has needed badly for sometime.
No parking nearby, our driveway is on the street side, one of three in our cul de sac, the rest all have alley access to their garages.

While the heavy machinery is making the house shake rattle & roll, we had a contractor come in to put … (25 comments)

Home Stagers; the Auto Detailers of Real Estate?People sell their cars, or trade them in all the time for something better.
They always want to get as much as possible for their old car, because that number will always be in direct correlation to what kind of new car they are going to purchase. Most people are wise enough to clean their cars before putting it in the auto trader or on Craig's list & kijiji. They know that someone isn't going to buy a dirty car with pop cans and other trash littering the floor of the back seat. Some people, who … (21 comments)

When Does a Query Become an Annoyance? Home Staging in Edmonton.I have been, throughout my Staging career, perusing MLS to see if there are listings that could benefit from Professional Staging in the Edmonton area.

Depending on your perspective, unfortunately or fortunately I have found there are more that need help than don't.

I'm always pleasantly surprised to see a listing that I wouldn't do much to. And when I do see a listing that needs some tweaks, or an all out makeover, I will contact the agent (usually via email, but I'm trying to get over that and … (11 comments)
