Sell Your Home & Make Miracles Happen

Yesterday, we announced a new program by which our seller clients can elect to have us make a donation to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure upon the sale of their home. Today, we adding a second option for them:

Children's Miracle Network

Children's Miracle Network and RE/MAX are joined by their desire to provide local community hospitals with modern tools and information. Since RE/MAX became the exclusive real estate sponsor of Children's Miracle Network in 1992, RE/MAX Associates have raised nearly $75 million for the cause.

Founded in 1983, Children's Miracle Network generates health care funds and awareness programs to benefit children. The nonprofit organization's 170 participating hospitals across North America help 17 million children annually.

RE/MAX Associates raise funds for Children's Miracle Network in a variety of ways, including:

Pledging a contribution derived from each transaction involving a RE/MAX Miracle Home®.

Staging fundraising events - from local golf tournaments to parking-lot flea markets.

Handling the phones at the organization's annual telethon fundraising event, the largest of its kind in the world.

Miracle Home® Program

When you list your home with us, you may choose to have it designated as a Miracle Home®. If it is, we will make a contribution to Doernbecher Children's Hospital Foundation / OHSU once the transaction is complete. The funds raised here in Vancouver / Clark County will remain in the Oregon / SW Washington area to benefit local families.

Make Miracles Happen!

If you and/or someone you know are considering selling a home and would like to help make miracles happen, please contact Patty & Scott Carroll at (360) 258-2459 or visit our web site at www.SellingClarkCounty.com.

Sell Your Home & Help Fight Breast Cancer

Sold for the CureTM

As RE/MAX Sales Associates who have had their lives touched by cancer, we actively support our company's Sold for the CureTM program. The program gives sellers an opportunity to designate their home as a Sold for the Cure property when they list it with us. Upon successful completion of the sales transaction, we will make a donation to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Oregon & SW Washington.

Breast Cancer Facts

Breast cancer is among the leading types of cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 8 women will have invasive breast cancer some time during her life. The chance of dying from breast cancer is about 1 in 35. At this time, breast cancer death rates are declining thanks, in part, to the work of organizations like Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

About Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, we have invested nearly $1 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.

RE/MAX Supports Susan G. Komen for the Cure

RE/MAX is a proud national sponsor of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and a member of the Komen Million Dollar Council. The Komen Million Dollar Council is a special group of corporate partners. In addition to a financial contribution of at least $1 million, members of the Million Dollar Council like RE/MAX has been found to have new and innovative ways to spread two important messages: 1) early detection saves lives and 2) only through research can we find a cure.

If you and/or someone you know are considering selling a home and would like to help support the fight against breast cancer, please contact Patty & Scott Carroll at (360) 258-2459 or visit our web site at www.SellingClarkCounty.com.

Super 8 Me-Me and how I wanted to be a Playboy Bunny

We were tagged for a Super 8 Me-Me by Ann Heitland and we did them individually.

1. Who is your favorite musical artist? The Beatles, loved the music and the hair. In fifth grade a friend and I spent an entire day creating a dance to the song "Come Together', then we made our mothers sit and watch. They were really pretty patient ... thinking back, it sucked.

2. Who is your favorite artist? I love a lot of art but two of my favorite artists are Tomasz Rut and Misha Lenn.

3. Who is your favorite blogger? Can anyone really have just one? A few of my faves are Dustin Luther, Ardell DellaLoggia, Jason Crouch, Greg Nino and Todd Clark.

4. If you could meet anyone (alive or dead) who would it be and what is the most interesting thing about them? John Lennon is someone that I would have loved to sit down and chat with. What a talented singer and writer he was sending hope, love and peace through his music.

5. What did you want to be when you grew up? Well there were a couple of things. First there was the Playboy Bunny (it was the 60's and I was a teenager, enough said on that one) and then it was an actress or something in sales. I once did a "what is your ideal job test", to see what the best job for me would be and it said that I should be a talk show host like Oprah or an Air Traffic Controller. So I became a Realtor instead, lol.

6. What is the most interesting piece of trivia that you know? Slugs have 4 noses yuk...where's the salt!

7. If you could live in any point in history what would it be and why? It would have been in the 50's. I love the cars, I love Lucy, Elvis, American Bandstand and the pace of life back then. My husband Scott picked this one too, hmmm maybe this means I should get a poodle skirt.

8. What is the most interesting job you have ever held? It technically isn't considered a job, but we were foster parents to 22 children and every day was interesting for sure!

OK ... Now I am supposed to Meme 8 more people. But who? So how about this, the first 8 people that let me know that they want to take a crack at it get it. But better hurry I only have 8 spots!

#1 - Kim Harris, Sound Realty

#2 -

#3 -

#4 -

#5 -

#6 -

#7 -

#8 -

We got tagged! Super 8 MeMe (Scott)

Well, it happened. We were tagged by Ann Heitland, Associate Broker, CRS, GRI , ABR ~ Flagstaff Real Estate/Community in Flagstaff, AZ for Super 8 MeMe. The first thing we realized was that Patty and I had different opinions of the MeMe thing. In discussing the questions, we also learned that we had different answers to many (if not all)! That said, we are responding to Ann's tag individually.

For me (Scott) ... I was torn about responding at all. While I felt honored that we were selected by Ann as one of her eight (of the currently 92,934) AR members to be tagged, I had also read a few of the MeMe posts and considered them to be nothing more than an electronic chain letter ... and I HATE chain letters. Then again, being relatively new to blogging and AR, we were concerned that a failure to respond may be taken as a lack of support of the AR community and/or a personal slight toward Ann. We went so far as to ask Jon Washburn his opinion! He assured us that we should not feel pressured to respond, but that he personally thinks that "meme's are cool and add to the community". With that in mind, here are my answers:

1. Who is your favorite musical artist? I like a lot of artists, though my wife will tell you that I need to update my musical taste. I enjoy Styx, Foreigner, Journey ... and other music of the 80s. The one artist that really impresses me, though, is Josh Groban.

2. Who is your favorite artist? My wife and I started buying art on cruise ships. We own work by a number of different artists and many different styles. My favorite, though, is Tomasz Rut.

3. Who is your favorite blogger? I can't say that I have a favorite blogger. I enjoy reading so many and learn something from nearly all of them. I think I'm going to have to grow in my understanding of what I believe to be important for a blog before I'll be able to pick out a favorite blogger.

4. If you could meet anyone (alive or dead) who would it be and what is the most interesting thing about them? I would like to meet Bill Gates. The things I find most interesting about him are his extraordinary business successes and his far-reaching philanthropic efforts.

5. What did you want to be when you grew up? As a young boy, I wanted to be an astronaut. When I got older and started giving my occupation some serious consideration, I wanted to be an optometrist. When I learned that required college classes including dissecting cadavers, I quickly changed my mind!

6. What is the most interesting piece of trivia that you know? The origin of the phrase "mind your P's and Q's" dates back to when printers set headlines and copy by hand using movable type. If you have ever seen old type, you know that the letters are mirror images of the regular alphabet. Lower-case P's look very similar to Q's and vice versa. "Mind your P's and Q's" was a reminder not to mix up the letters when putting them back in the rack after being used.

7. If you could live in any point in history what would it be and why? I suppose the 1950s. It seems that, in many ways, life was more simple and I have always loved the clothes, the music and the cars!

8. What is the most interesting job you have ever held? I'd have to say being a real estate agent is the most interesting job I've had. It is ever changing, completely unpredictable and sometimes frustrating; but it gives me the opportunity to make a good living, help others, and work with my wife, who I love very much.

More Good News for Home Buyers in the Vancouver WA / Clark County Area - May 2008

May data was recently released by RMLS and it shows that the number of homes for sale in Clark County is climbing again. In the month of May, there were 5,048 active listings (up from 4,775 in April). There were 400 homes sold in this same period (up from 386 in April). This translates to 12.6 months of inventory (active listings divided by the number of closed sales). Another way to look at the inventory calculation is at the current rate of home sales, it would take 12.6 months to sell everything that is currently on the market, assuming no other homes were listed in that period.

Following is a graphic representation of monthly inventory levels starting in January 2006 through May 2008:

SOURCE: Based on data reported by RMLS. Graph created by Patty & Scott Carroll.

The high inventory levels is both a function of an increase in the number of homes for sale and a decline in the number of completed sales. Comparing May 2008 with May 2005, active listings have increased 370.1% (5,048 v. 1,364). For the same months, closed sales declined by 41.9% (400 v. 689).

This, combined with continued low interest rates, seems to signal opportunity for saavy buyers. If you or someone you know are considering buying a home in the Vancouver WA / Clark County area, please give us a call. Be sure and ask about our VIP Benefits that can save our buyer clients up to $1,200.*

It's a great time to Buy!

High Inventory of Homes for Sale Means More Choice for Buyers!

According to the National Association of Realtors, inventory of homes for sale is at a 15 year-high. There are currently more than 5,000 residential properties for sale in Clark County, alone. This means more choice for qualified home buyers.

Mortgage Rates Near Historic Lows

According to the National Association of Realtors, mortgage rates for buyers who qualify are near historic lows. They have been hovering around 6% ... the same as they were 45 years ago! Low interest rates, coupled with recent market corrections and increased inventory levels, give buyers a unique opportunity right now.

Good News for Home Buyers in the Vancouver WA / Clark County Area - April 2008

The number of homes for sale in Clark County continues to be high. In the month of April, there were 4,775 active listings. There were 386 homes sold in this same period. This translates to 12.4 months of inventory (active listings divided by the number of closed sales). Another way to look at this is at the current rate of home sales, it would take more than 12 months to sell everything that is currently on the market, assuming no other homes were listed in that period.

Following is a graphic representation of monthly inventory levels starting in January 2006 through April 2008:

SOURCE: Based on data reported by RMLS. Graph created by Patty & Scott Carroll.

The high inventory levels is both a function of an increase in the number of homes for sale and a decline in the number of completed sales. Comparing April 2008 with April 2005, active listings have increased 351.6% (4,775 v. 1,358). For the same months, closed sales declined by 49.7% (386 v. 768).

This, combined with continued low interest rates, seems to signal opportunity for saavy buyers. If you or someone you know are considering buying a home in the Vancouver WA / Clark County area, please give us a call. Be sure and ask about our VIP Benefits that can save our buyer clients up to $1,200.*

Get FREE Directory Assistance (411) from Your Phone with GOOG-411

Clearly, we are not the first to learn about this tool but, judging by our own informal poll, it sounds like it's worth repeating.

Most cell phone providers charge you every time you dial 411 to use directory assistance. The charge is often as much as $1.50. Google will give it to you for free and you don't need a computer or an internet connection. All you need is a phone (mobile or land line).

GOOG-411 is a free, voice-activated and completely automated. Here's how it works:

Call GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411)

Say where you want to search (typically city/state)

Say what person or company you're looking for

GOOG-411 will connect you with the business you choose for free!

If you are calling from a mobile device, GOOG-411 can even send you a text message with more details. Just say "Text Message". Can your cell phone access the Internet? If so, you can even see a map of the location in question. Just say "Map It".

Pick up your phone and give it a try right now. See how easy it is!

Important Theft Notice

This was emailed to us earlier today. We don't normally pass this type of message along, but this one struck us as funny! :-)

Important Theft Notice

You've heard about people who have been abducted and had their kidneys removed by black-market organ thieves.

My thighs were stolen from me during the night a few years ago. I went to sleep and woke up with someone else's thighs. It was just that quick. The replacements had the texture of cooked oatmeal. Whose thighs were these and what happened to mine? I spent the entire summer looking for my thighs. Finally, hurt and angry, I resigned myself to living out my life in jeans. And then the thieves struck again.

My gut was next. I knew it was the same gang, because they took pains to match my new rear-end to the thighs they had stuck me with earlier. But my new butt was attached at least three inches lower than my original! I realized I'd have to give up my jeans in favor of long skirts.

Two years ago I realized my arms had been switched. One morning I was fixing my hair and was horrified to see the flesh of my upper arm swing to and fro with the motion of the hairbrush. This was really getting scary - my body was being replaced one section at a time. What could they do to me next?

When my poor neck suddenly disappeared and was replaced with a turkey neck, I decided to tell my story. Women of the world, wake up and smell the coffee! Those 'plastic' surgeons are using REAL replacement body parts stolen from you and me! The next time someone you know has something 'lifted', look again - was it lifted from you?

THIS IS NOT A HOAX
This is happening to women everywhere every night.

WARN YOUR FRIENDS!

P.S. Last year I thought someone had stolen my Boobs. I was lying in bed and they were gone! But when I jumped out of bed, I was relieved to see that they had just been hiding in my armpits as I slept. Now I keep them hidden in my waistband!

Donut Nook and the History of National Doughnut Day :-)

Before Friday, we had never heard of National Doughnut Day. In fact, when we saw National Doughnut Day on the home page of MSN last week, we thought it was a joke of some kind. After some quick Google searches, though, we learned that it was legit.

National Doughnut Day was established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to raise much-needed funds during the Great Depression, and to honor the Salvation Army "Lassies" of World War I, who served doughnuts to soldiers on the front lines. It is celebrated each year on the first Friday in June.

We are not exactly sure why this was the first year we had heard of National Doughnut Day, but even owners and employees of the Donut Nook in Vancouver WA were surprised by the overwhelming response. It seems that there were a lot of other people that just learned of National Doughnut Day and chose to celebrate. They stopped by the Donut Nook to get a dozen or two (or six!) of the delicious treats to share with their friends and coworkers.

A friend of ours who recently relocated to the area was among them. She had been looking for a place to get ‘real' doughnuts in the Vancouver area, and we suggested Donut Nook. She and the coworkers she surprised report the freshly made doughnuts from Donut Nook to be some of the best they've ever had. The place offers a varied selection, the doughnuts are substantial, both in size and texture, and they are priced fairly.

With the mad rush of National Doughnut Day behind us, we encourage you to visit Donut Nook. It is located 4403 NE St Johns Rd in Vancouver. If you're ordering more than a dozen or two, we suggest that you call ahead at (360) 695-5775.

Who makes the best doughnuts in your area?

FREE Widget: Real Estate Dictionary and Glossary

A posting on the PR Web today indicates that Real Estate Wiki is gaining momentum. As of June 6, RealEstateWiki.com announced having more 21,000 entries since launching in January of this year.

One of the most interesting tools, in our opinion, is the 'Wiki Widget'. The free widget allows brokers and agents to add a search bar to their own website and/or blog, enabling their visitors to access the comprehensive real estate dictionary and glossary in a new window so as not to lead them away from their own website. The 'Wiki Widget' can be downloaded from http://www.realestatewiki.com/widgets.html.

Choices are as follows:

1. Wiki Widget Option 1: The resulting code will appear as shown below:

2. Wiki Widget Option 2: The resulting code will appear as shown below:

3. Wiki Widget Option 3: The resulting code will appear as shown below:

Other popular activities for real estate professionals include adding personal bios and/or company profiles and information on real estate business service providers.

Patty & Scott Carroll - RE/MAX Equity Group, Vancouver WA

Who am I to be so brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?

Not long ago, we watched Akeelah and the Bee. It is a movie about a gifted eleven year old girl who overcomes challenges at home and makes it to the National Spelling Bee. When we saw the descriptor on NetFlix, we questioned whether we really wanted to order it or not. We are glad we did, as we very much enjoyed the movie.

There was a quote that really resonated with us and we want to share it:

"Our worst fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'who am I to be so brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?' Actually, who are we not to be? You are a child of God: Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us. It is not just in some of us, it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." ~Marianne Williamson

How wonderful are you? Let your light shine!

Moving Boxes & Discount Moving Supplies

Finding a good source of affordable moving boxes can be tough. Why add frustration to an already difficult time? We just found a website for moving boxes and discounted moving supplies. It's called www.boxesovernight.com. The website has a moving box calculator to help you determine how many boxes you will need based on the number of rooms being moved. In addition to boxes, the recommended package will include packing tape, bubble wrap and permanent markers. The per box price including these additional packing materials and free shipping looks to be less than $3 per box.

For those of you in the Vancouver WA / Clark County area, we can also recommend 'Bob'. Bob offers previously used (but clean!) moving boxes for $1.00 each or less (ex; 50 for $40). Call Bob at (360) 607-1354.

Looking for other moving tips? Visit our Website and/or LowesMoving.com.

NOTE: Jim Crawford of RE/MAX Greater Atlanta recommends Uline, pointing out that they are nationwide and have everything at steep discounts. Thanks for the tip, Jim!

Does Your Pet Know Its Name & Address?

A recent article in The Columbian caught the attention of our friend, Cindy. The article told the story of a parrot that flew from his cage in Nagareyama, near Tokyo, and was lost. The parrot was rescued by police and, after spending a night at the station, was transferred to a local veterinarian. Though tight-beaked with the police, the parrot ultimately opened up at the vet's office, saying "I'm Mr. Yosuke Nakamura" and gave his full home address. After entertaining the staff with a few songs, Mr. Yosuke Nakamura was happily reunited with his family.

Other pets may not be quite so articulate. That's why many areas require pet licensing. Benefits of licensing include:

pets are more likely to be united quickly with their owner

pets will receive a longer care period at the shelter

pets are transferred to an emergency medical care facility if they are found with an injury

Licensing protects pets in ways not often imagined. By obtaining the required pet license, responsible owners provide for the emergency services that protect their pet companions. All too often indoor pets, or pets confined to a yard, may need assistance when an owner's household faces unforeseen accidents, fire, natural disaster, or become victims of attacks by other animals. Pet license fees are the source of revenue, which support the animal ambulance, shelter, public safety and cruelty investigation services.

All dogs and cats, as well as wild and exotic pets, maintained within the city of Vancouver, and unincorporated Clark County are required to be licensed. Licenses for puppies and kittens are free. Fees are required for pets over six months old, and are valid for 12 month.

Pet license fees :

Fertile dog - $40

Altered dog - $16

Fertile Cat - $20

Altered Cat - $10

Senior discount - 50% fee reduction for one dog or cat per household. Applies to spayed or neutered pets only.

Juvenile (8 weeks to 6 months) - no fee

Use this list to find the Vancouver/Clark County locations of licensing agents.

Family Fun at Dozer Day 2008!

YOU'RE INVITED TO DOZER DAY 2008!

What is DOZER DAY?

It's a dream come true for kids--and great fun for the whole family!

What can the whole family do at Dozer Day?

Dozer Day is a fun event for the entire family. For grown-ups, a diamond dig and a tool dig are popular as is a picnic in the park and KUPL live on site. Families can also look and climb over a collection of antique equipment , watch how curbs are made or even watch a concrete
