Last night, the U.S. House of Representative passed H.R. 1, the Economic Recovery Package, by a 244 to 188 vote.The bill contains a number of issues critical to REALTORS® and the industry, including the extension, until the end of 2009, of all Metropolitan Statistical Area's (MSA's) 2008 Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and FHA loan limits. If it wasn't obvious already, we're finding out more and more through conversation with consumers how little they know about their options regarding their distressed home. Let us remind everyone, that Section 1403 of the new housing bill that was signed into law on July 30th, 2008(HR 3221 - effective immediately) requires mortgage servicers to modify loans for homeowners and help them avoid foreclosure as long as three requirements are met:

The Internal Revenue Service kicked off the 2009 tax filing season by announcing a number of new steps to help financially distressed taxpayers maximize their refunds and speed payments while providing additional help to people struggling to meet their tax obligations.
Among the areas where the IRS can provide assistance:
Postponement of Collection Actions: IRS employees will have greater authority to suspend collection actions in certain hardship cases where taxpayers are unable to pay. Freddie/Fannie Suspend Foreclosures Until 1-31-09 (REMINDER) - 01/22/09 10:29 AM
Freddie Mac is extending its suspension of all foreclosure sales and evictions involving occupied single family and 2-4 unit properties with Freddie Mac-owned mortgages through January 31, 2009. The suspension does not apply to vacant single family properties.
The extension will also provide servicers with more time to help troubled borrowers find an alternative to foreclosure and implement the Streamlined Modification Program that went into operation on December 15, 2008. So much to be thankful for, especially now as we begin a New Year. Today was spent working.. .business as usual, but with reflecting thoughts of the now prior year. --Saving those thoughts for another post, there's something else we'd like to share with you.
