Kelly Ripa praises Prince Edward Island as favourite family destination

When asked in a recent interview what her favourite destination has been for family getaways, Ripa’s answer is surprising. She loves the British Virgin Islands and goes to Colorado every year to ski and snowshoe. But if she had to pick just one?

“Prince Edward Island has stayed with me,” says Ripa, who travelled there in July 2010 for four episodes of what was then Live! with Regis and Kelly.

“It’s left its mark on me. I think about it, I dream about it. I remember seeing my children happier there than they’ve ever been. We did amazing things, but we did the real things that matter in life: we took walks, the kids played in the ocean. We did things that didn’t require gadgets and equipment. Because we are raising our kids in New York City, we love the wilderness and I think children need that. We like to bring them to unspoiled places.”

Royalty Coming To Prince Edward Island, Canada

It's official, the Royal Couple William & Kate who were recently married, will be coming to the picturesque Canadian province of Prince Edward Island. The official dates are July 3rd and July 4th, 2011. One of the reasons for the Royal visit to PEI is because of the love Kate has for the classic book "Anne of Green Gables". It was a favourite book of Kate's and introduced her to the province of Prince Edward Island. William & Kate will visit the capital city of Charlottetown, and the other city of Summerside.

Prince Edward Islanders will give William & Kate a huge welcome. They appreciate very much being honoured with the Royal visitation. Residents of PEI have always had a great love of the British Royalty.

July 3rd & 4th will be busy days for the province of PEI. There will be a great influx of visitors to view the Royal couple. This will mean increased revenue for PEI businesses especially in the Charlottetown and Summeride areas. A lot of foreign media will also be covering the couple, and this will give more exposure of Prince Edward Island to the world.

The PEI Real Estate market can only be helped by this attention on PEI this summer.

Historic Lighthouse Will Live Again - Prince Edward Island, Canada

The historic lighthouse in Beach Point, Prince Edward Island, Canada that was displaced from its location by a storm/tidal surge took the first step in returning to its original location. Yesterday (May 30, 2011) the lighthouse was hauled from its position at the Beach Point parking yard to within a few hundred feet of where it will once again be at the entrance to the harbour. The Federal Department of Fisheries & Oceans will build a base for it very close to its original position. The lighhouse should be ready around the last of June, 2011.

This is great news for all of the admirers of the historic structure. A great many people signed petitions that were presented to the Federal Government of Canada, and because of this, action was taken to restore it. Local residents and admirers from away are all expressing extreme pleasure on facebook and other social media for the good news.

Structures like the Beach Point lighthouse certainly add to the PEI Tourist industry and this leads to good news for the PEI Real Estate market. Investors very much enjoy owning PEI properties that have scenic views of lighhouses, wharfs, etc.

Ducks Unlimited - Canada (DUC)

Ducks Unlimited is a private organization dedicated to preserving the many wetlands in Atlantic Canada (Prince Edward Island...Nova Scotia...New Brunswick...Newfoundland) to give hundreds of species of waterfowl the natural habitat for them to have a happy existence in the ecosystem. There are approximately 120,000 acres of wetlands under the control of Ducks Unlimited in Atlantic Canada.

Recently the Lieutanant Governor of Prince Edward Island presented the Greenwing Conservation Award to Charles H. Perret & Gloria McKinnon Perret for their hard work in preserving the wetlands in Prince Edward Island, Canada. The Perret's donated 173 acres of wetlands to the Island Nature Trust in PEI. The Perret's requested that these acres be undeveloped and free of any form of pollution. The Perret's were very honoured to receive the very prestigeous award.

Prince Edward Island wetlands are not a normal listing property in Prince Edward Island, but they are very important to the PEI Real Estate Association for the obvious reasons.

It contains all of the government of PEI departments with names, phone numbers & email addresses of the government officials from the Ministers of each department all the way down the department.

In the area of real estate, the website contains information on many aspects of PEI real estate properties such as all the rules about subdividing a property in PEI, or information about doing a Perk Test for the septic system approval on a PEI lot. Information is also provided on how the process of a water test takes place. Environmental issues on PEI is talked about in detail on the site.

The PEI government website also has extensive aerial maps of many communities all across Prince Edward Island, as well as photos of regions of PEI that are taken at ground level. Also provided is a map of every property & PID number and its boundaries. This is of great value to PEI Real Estate agents for getting background information on a new listing. "Sinking of the Titanic" - A Prince Edward Island, Canada, Connection

Historic in every sense is the Cape Bear Lighthouse in scenic Cape Bear, Prince Edward Island, Canada. It is located on the Northumberland Strait in Southeastern Prince Edward Island. Presently it is open as a very busy tourist operation that brings many visitors to its doors.

The lighthouse was built by John Whalen in 1880 on land that was purchased from Thomas Munn who became the first Keeper of the lighhouse. William Harris & Martin Luther Jordan (my grandfather) succeeded Mr Munn as keepers. Hiram Hyde became the 4th keeper of the lighthouse, and Clarence White was the 5th being replaced by Ewart Keeping. In 1947 Wesley Coles, a house mover from Prince County PEI moved the stucture back from the eroding ocean bank to safer ground.

A Marconi Wireless Telegraph Station was erected next to the historic lighthouse in 1905. This was to communicate with ships and ice-breaking steamers. B.E. Hobbs operated the Marconi Station from 1905 until 1912, then Thomas Bartlett was the operator until it moved to the capital city of Charlottetown in 1922.

April 14th, 1912 Thomas Bartlett received the first distress message in Canada from the sinking Titanic off the coast of the Canadian Province of Newfoundland.

The Marconi Station was sold to Robert Glover , a nearby resident in 1929. It now is part of a family home in Guernsey Cove, Prince Edward Island.

In 1998 the historic Cape Bear Lighthouse was leased to the Northumberland Community Development Corporation. They restored the lighthouse added a Marconi Museum for its present summers use as a Kings County tourist attraction.

The 2011 Canadian Election - 10 Provinces...3 Territories

The great country of Canada is presently in the start of a Federal Election because of a lack of confidence in the Progressive Conservative government headed by Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Canada, for the last number of years, has been ruled by a minority government including the Liberals, New Democratic Party, and the separatist Bloc Party representing the province of Quebec. Prime Minister Harper is looking for a majority government so that he can bring Canada out of its deficit and give greater financial security to its citizens.

Prince Edward Island, the smallest of the 10 provinces of Canada, is represented by 4 Members of Parliament in the 308 seats in the House of Commons in Ottawa, the capital of Canada. Recently all of the 4 ridings in PEI was held by the Liberal Government of Canada...today there are 3 Liberal MP's and 1 Progressive Conservative. The PC member is Gail Shea from the western end of Prince Edward Island. Prime Minister Stephen Harper appointed Shea as the Canadian Minister of Fisheries & Oceans. Prince Edward Island gives a lot of tax money to the Federal Government in Ottawa, but also receives a lot of Federal money back as well for healthcare, education, infastructure, etc. Prime Minister Stephen Harper is expecte to be in Prince Edward Island this Friday April 1, 2011. He will be meeting with the new Progressive Conservative candidate Mike Currie who will try to oust the incumbent Liberal Party candidate in the riding of Cardigan.

The Canadian election will probably not have much to do with the PEI Real Estate Market in Prince Edward Island, Canada. The PEI Real Estate market is very stable mainly because Prince Edward Island with its beautiful scenery and "a sense of family" culture is very liked by the global investor. So all the best to the leaders of the various parties in this election, and hopefully the winner will give good leadership to the citizens of this great Country.

Top Realtors, Top Service?

The Real Estate industry is the same as any other service business...there are some who sell the most properties, and are therefore, considered the best choice by perspectives buyers and sellers to work for them. Top selling Realtors however, may not be the ones giving the best service to their clients. Some top Realtors sell the same properties over and over...why?...seems like the purchasers were talked into the properites and then, within a short while, woke up to the realization that the property wasn't a good choice for them...a form of hypnotism?...well maybe not to that extent, but close.

It is very possible in the Real Estate industry that the lesser-selling Realtors are giving their clients the best service. They provide the most information to their clients and work in the best interests of their clients, yet they don't get the credit in their Real Estate profession. It seems that the only thing that makes headlines in real estate publications is a "big seller"...that's too bad...

New Convention Centre, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada

New Convention Centre to be build on the Charlottetown waterfront next to the Delta Prince Edward hotel in beautiful Prince Edward Island, Canada. Presently the site is the home of the Canadian Coast Guard which will move to another location in the capital city. This new Convention Centre will be a partnership between the Prince Edward Island Provincial Government, and the Federal Government of Canada. It will be connected (physically) to the Delta Prince Edward hotel and managed by it.

This new Convention Centre will add much money to the PEI Tourist industry in the capital city and surrounding areas. It will also have many postive spin offs for the PEI Real Estate market.

We're Realtors, Not Inspectors

We get a call as Realtors from a potential buyer about a house, let's say a fixer upper, and the client asks "What is the house like?"...What are we as Realtors supposed to say in response?...We could say that we are not inspectors, we are sales people, and refer them to a bonifide house inspector...or we could give the client our assessment of the condition of the house...but there's a "fine line" here...we can't speak as having the expertise to assess a structure as a home inspector could...the safe response may be to generally give the client a description of the house on the premise that we are not experts to do so...if we don't answer the client, the client will think we are not very capable as Realtors...nothing is "cut and dry" in the Real Estate business, we always straddle a fine line with clients...we have to look after vendors and purchasers for sure, but we must also look after ourselves..if we are put ourselves out of the business, we are no good to anyone...

Real Estate Trading Act, Prince Edward Island, Canada

The PEI Real Estate Association in Prince Edward Island, Canada, is not a "free for all". Every PEI Realtor, and every PEI Real Estate transaction has to meet the standards of the Real Estate Trading Act. This act was passed in the PEI legislature some years ago, and is the "watchdog" of the PEI Real Estate system.

PEI Realtors also have a "Realtors Code" as members of the Canadian Real Estate Association to perform at a high standard to the public. The core to this code is the honesty & integrity of each individual Realtor. It's important to treat clients with respect, and to never willfully try to deceive them. It's a belief that each PEI Realtor is in this profession for more than the commission cheque.

Our goal is to get the best possible price for our Vendors who are kind enough to entrust us with their valuable properties. They could have tried to sell their properties privately but instead, they realize that even thought they have to pay a commisison, they will still come out ahead in the end.

Here in Prince Edward Island, Canada, many Vendors have benefited by using the services of a professional Realtor. They have gotten higher prices for their properties because the Realtor system is a team system and this team is the key to getting higher selling prices. The Realtor system reaches a greater number of potential buyers which ensures a greater chance of a better price for the Vendor's property. If the Vendor gets a good price for his/her property, the commission is not a concern.

"If You Snooze, You Lose" - Prince Edward Island, Canada

"If you snooze you lose" or "don't wait for spring, do it now" are fairly well known expressions that have a lot of truth in them. They certainly are very applicable in the Real Estate business. Recently here in PEI, this Realtor told two different clients to get an offer in and "do it now". Neither of the clients took my suggestion, and , guess what, both of them lost out in buying their properties. Maybe it's because the clients think a Realtor is giving this advice for their own self-serving interest or maybe they think that there is time to buy the property. They must realize after being told by a Realtor that when a property is on the MLS system with the Canadian Real Estate Association, it becomes open game for millions of global investers. Some buyers also are under the impression that they need to get their financing in order to put in an offer on a property. It is a good idea to have financing approval before offering, but it is not necessry, and it is very risky. The buyer should get an offer in with his/her conditions, get it signed by the vendor. Why do this? because now the buyer is in first place and can't be "bumped out" by a second offer. The buyer now has time to see about his/her conditions such as financing, etc. and hopefully move to the closing on the property.

Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada

The 2011 Scotties Tournament of Hearts Curling Championship is being held in Charlottetown, the capital city of Prince Edward Island, Canada. The games are being held at the Civic Centre on Kensington Road.

Last year's Team Canada champion Jennifer Jones and her team will be playing team Saskatchewan today for the championship. If Jones wins, it will be the 4th straight Canadian Curling championship for her team.

This Canadian Curling championship will attract many visitors to PEI and especially Charlottetown. The local businesses are delighted with the event as sales revenues will be up substantially. There are a lot of excellent accomodations for the curlers & spectators at the various B&B's, Motels & Hotels in the Charlottetown area. There is also potential for a member of the PEI Real Estate Association to meet up with a potential buyer or seller for a Prince Edward Island real estate property. There's certainly lots of them.

Prince William & Kate Middleton Coming To Prince Edward Island, Canada

Prince William & Kate will take part in Canada Day celebrations in the capital city of Ottawa, Canada.

This gracious visit by Prince William & Kate will give a great boost to the economy of Prince Edward Island, especially the tourism sector...it will also enhance the already robust PEI Real Estate market...

American Investors...Come Buy Again in Prince Edward Island, Canada

The PEI Real Estate market in Prince Edward Island, Canada is "not on life support", it is dynamic and energized, but it could be that much better if the American investors came back in full force. In the past when the American dollar was much stronger than the Canadian dollar, many American investors purchased good properties in PEI, especially many of the great oceanfronts that line the periphery of the province. In recent times, the American dollar lost its advantage over the Canadian dollar, but more than this, the United States economy, mainly due to the bottoming out of the American housing market has led to a severe recession. This really hurt the PEI Real Estate market especially, the prime oceanfronts sales. The Prince Edward Island Real Estate market is not hiding the fact that it wants the American economy to have a resergence as soon as possible. A strong American economy is the hope and prayers of all Canadians even if they are not in the real estate business. The farming, fishing, logging sectors rely heavily on selling their products to our "great neighbour to the south".

There are a lot of excellent Oceanfronts on the PEI Real Estate market at the present time just waiting for the great American investors...

Historic Lighthouse, Beach Point, Prince Edward Island, Canada

For many years the picturesque Beach Point Lighthouse stood at the entrance to the Murray Bay in southeastern Prince Edward Island, Canada. It was the beacon to the many PEI fishermen who had to navigate in to the many fishing wharfs such as Beach Point, Murray Harbour, Murray River, etc. Recently due to a rare storm surge/nor'easter, the lighthouse was dislodged from its cement foundation and carried by the waves to rest on a nearby beach. The lighthouse is presently laying on its side...what will be done with it is not known yet..the provincial government will have to decide its fate. Many people who have seen the Beach Point Lighthouse or have read about it are very saddened. The lighthouse got into the minds and souls of many local residents as well as people from other parts of the world. Hopefully the lighthouse will be put back on a more secure footing and guard the entrance to the Murray Bay..."will these bones live again"?...time will tell...

PEI lighhouses are attractive to PEI Real Estate purchasers...they enjoy having a lighthouse in their view...

This weekend marks the 12th Annual 70 Mile Yard Sale in beautiful Prince Edward Island, Canada. Many interested buyers from PEI, other parts of Canada, etc., journey to southeastern Prince Edward Island to find the yard sale items that best meets their needs.

The 70 mile yard sale in PEI is tremendous for local businesses such as restaurants, gas bars, B&B's, cottages, stores, etc. No doubt their sales will soar this weekend.

It's also a great time to get out and meet old and new friends, have a chat, and enjoy the fellowship of the event. For a PEI Real Estate agent it is a good chance to network with potential buyers from all over the region and beyond.
