I was honoured lately to receive a gift from a client of mine who was looking to buy a PEI Real Estate property in Prince Edward Island, Canada. During email communications, I had mentioned to my client that Jack Nicklaus, and Tom Watson were coming to the Brudenell Golf Course in Brudenell, PEI near the scenic town of Montague. To my great surprise, this very considerate client said that she would courier two VIP tickets to attent the great golf tournament. The tickets arrived and my son and I attended the great event. The VIP tickets meant that we were treated like royalty - access to the golf club for free food and beveridges, and free parking right at the Brudenell Golf Course. My son and I had two days that we will never forget as long as we live. Thank you very much to my special real estate client.

Prominent Saw Mill Burns in Murray River, Prince Edward Island, Canada

A very well known Saw Mill in Murray River, Prince Edward Island, Canada, burned to the ground recently. The Saw Mill run by well liked PEI resident Gerry Moore was a valuable business to the many local residents. Mr Moore cut up the raw trees brought into his yard into all kinds of sized hardwood and softwood. He even sold the slabs or bark of the trees that many residents bought for firewood.

But the story is not totally negative. A benefit concert is being held for Mr Moore and contributions will go to building a new saw mill. It is highly likely that Mr Moore will have a lot of local help in with the project. This will not only be of great benefit to Mr Moore and his sons but will also benefit all of the many residents of Murray River and surrounding areas of PEI.

Murray River is a beautiful fishing community in southeastern PEI that would be well worth your while to visit.

Water Test & Oil Tank Tagged - Prince Edward Island, Canada

There are 2 things a Vendor of a PEI Real Estate property must provide to the Purchaser:

1. Water Test:

The Vendor must insure that there is a successful Water Test done before the closing date. The Water Test is to be done by a Third Party.

2. Tagged Oil Tank:

The Vendor of a property in Prince Edward Island must insure that the Oil Tank is tagged so that it meets the standards of the Government of Prince Edward Island.

If a property is "AS IS WHERE IS", the above requirements do not apply.

No Problem With Mortgages in Prince Edward Island, Canada

It is very sad to hear about the millions of homeowners in the Unites States who have lost their homes. One wonders whom is to blame; certainly the consumer who is taking out a mortgage should be responsible to make sure that he or she is not being deceived. On the other hand, deceptive mortgage companies can make a mortgage so appealing that the consumer is so hyped up, they don't know what they are doing.

Here in Prince Edward Island, Canada, this problem doesn't exist or is very minimal. The mortgage companies in PEI are more honourable and don't try to deceive their customers.

At 6:PM Monday to Friday, residents of Prince Edward Island, Canada, are sitting in front of their TV sets to get the latest news of the day on a CBC program called "Compass". The CBC studio for this broadcast is located on University Avenue, Charlottetown, PEI. Compass gives Islanders the latest news, weather, and sports.

Bruce Rainnie is the host of the Compass broadcast and Kevin "Boomer" Gallant is the very capable weatherman.

The CBC staff go "on the scenes" to report on the main "news makers" of the day. This could include a big story from the PEI Fishing Industry or the PEI Farming Industry, Etc. Recently Compass added the "Photo Of The Day"where Islanders can send in their most interesting photo, and, if picked, it will be featured on the Compass program.

Once a Civic Address is to be found, one can go to the PEI Government webpage and under "Address Locator" can easily find it. For example: Civic Addresses are very helpful to businesses in PEI that have to deliver goods to a property in PEI. This business can go on the Government website, type in a Civic Address, and it comes up on a location map so that you know exactly how to get to it.

This Address Locator is also very helpful to Real Estate Agents who want to find a specific property in PEI to list or sell.

Water Test - Prince Edward Island, Canada

Private Well Owners
It is recommended that homeowners relying on their own well, get their water tested on a regular basis. There are two types of water test, one for bacteria and another for general inorganic chemistry.

Bacteria test
The bacteria test measures both total coliform organisms and E. coli. These bacteria tests provide a general indication of the condition of the well and plumbing system (total coliform), as well as contamination by more serious sources of bacteria such as sewage or manure (E. coli). Generally it is suggested that private wells be tested at least once a year for bacteria, or any time you notice a significant change in the taste, odour or appearance or the water.

Chemistry test
The chemistry test measures a total of 19 parameters that include the most common chemical constituents typically found in drinking water on PEI. They include both health based parameters such as nitrate, chloride and sodium; parameters that may affect the aesthetic quality of water such as pH, iron and manganese; and others that simply describe the basic characteristics of the water. It is normally recommended that wells be sampled for chemistry when they are first constructed, and then once every few years.

Scenic Community of Murray River, Prince Edward Island, Canada

Murray River is a picturesque fishing community in Kings County, Prince Edward Island, Canada. The Murray River separated two parts of the community but a scenic bridge joins the parts again. This same Murray River flows up to the new 9 Hole Golf Course and then flows down east to the Murray Bay and eventually out to the Northumberland Strait (Ocean).

Murray River is well known in PEI for its annual Murray River Fisheries Festival. There is a special parade as well as many events for the onlookers to watch. Dory racing and scalloping shucking are just a few of the many activities to be viewed. There is also the crowing of Miss Northumberland; some lucky young lady will represent the Murray River Fisheries Festival for that particular year.

Murray River has the following: a bank, the Old General Store, a dentist, restaurant, 9 Hole Golf Course, a saw mill, local hockey rink, ice cream take out, etc.

Murray River has some wonderful residential real estate as well as waterfront properties to be acquired by local and non local buyers. It is a wonderful quiet PEI community for someone who wants to get away from the hectic lifestyle of larger towns and cities.

Ferry Service, Prince Edward Island, Canada

The only Ferry service in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island is located in southeastern PEI on the Northumberland Strait. The service goes from Wood Islands, PEI to Caribou, Nova Scotia.

-Northumberland Ferries LTD operates with 2 ferries during the peak summer season, and one ferry the rest of the time. The 2 ferries are the Confederaton, and the Holiday Island. It takes about 75 minutes to cross from PEI to Nova Scotia, and they travel at 14 knots.

- Near the Wood Islands Ferry Terminal in PEI is the beautiful Norhumberland Park. It is run by the PEI government, and has a beautiful ocean sand beach, etc.

Scallop Fishing in Prince Edward Island, Canada

My mind thinks back to when I used to go Scallop fishing with my brother and father, mainly in the rich fishing waters around Pictou Island which is an island between Nova Scotia and PEI. We would awake about five o'clock in the morning, have breakfast and hid for the Beach Point wharf where our scallop boat was docked. Then began the long sail to the scallop grounds around Pictou Island. Finally we arrived and quickly dropped our scallop drags over in the deep Northumberland Strait waters and scrapped the bottom for the scallops. In a short while, the drags were hauled in by a winch and were landed on a platform on the stern deck of our boat. Then began the process of sifting through the rocks, flat fish, etc to pick out the precious scallops. As soon as this process was complete, the platform was lifted and the rocks, etc were dumped back into the sea. The scallop drags were once again winched over to began another tow of the bottom. We then took the scallops and began to shuck them. This involved shoving a knife between the bivalve and cutting the top of the scallop muscle. The stomach and intestines were removed and the last thing on the bottom shell was the cylinder shaped scallop muscle. This was cut off and placed in a small plastic bucket. This process went on for the entire day, and some of the days in the summer were estremely hot. At about seven PM that evening, we started to sale for our home port in Beach Point, PEI. Sometimes we had to keep shucking the scallops during the trip home. Late that night we would arrive at the wharf and sell our scallops to a local buyer and hid home for something to eat and get some sleep to be ready for the next scalloping day.

Scallop fishing was a strenous job because you were on your feet for long hours of the day and sometimes the weather was quite blowy, but it was work that wouldn't shorten your lifespan, and you could make a few dollars at it.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to fish for scallops in the Northumberland Strait off Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Scenic Murray Harbour North, PEI, Canada

Murray Harbour North is a very scenic part of the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, Canada. There are wonderful waterfront properties that overlook the very picturesque 5 Murray Islands in the Murray Bay. This Murray Bay is only a short distance to the Northumberland Strait (Ocean) on the southeastern coast of Prince Edward Island.

At the end of Mink River Road is Clow's Wharf; this wharf is the home port for fishermen who fish lobster in the months of May and June. Fishermen from this wharf travel out around the Murray Islands, past the Beach Point wharf and lighthouse to the ocean where the many lobster grounds are found. Just around the bend from Clow's wharf is the rustic Cahoon's wharf where fishing boats have a home base and provides a great place for the local residents to jump into the water for a refreshing swim.

Many non-residents purchase properites in this Murray Harbour North area and enjoy the excellent boating that this area provides.

Murray Harbour North is very close to the towns of Murray River and Montague. Both of these towns are on the inland waterway and they have bridges that add to the beauty of the towns.

If you enjoy a marine based boating area, this is the place in PEI to acquire property.

German Writers Visit Prince Edward Island, Canada

Two top German writers of the magazine Golf Punk are visiting scenic Prince Edward Island, Canada. They will play a number of PEI courses to eventually write an article in their magazine about golf in PEI. The two Germans got a chance to look at the new Green Gables course in Cavendish, PEI, and they were quite impressed with the course. They will play a total of 11 courses in Prince Edward Island before returning to Germany.

This visit by the German writers will be a very good tourist promotion of the golf scene in PEI.

Annandale Wharf, Annandale, Prince Edward Island, Canada

Annndale Wharf is located at the mouth of the Boughton River, and there is a picturesque sandspit near the wharf that borders the entrance to the Annandale Wharf from the ocean.

Tim Hortons Co-founder's Yacht Visits Charlottetown, PEI, Canada

The co-founder of Tim Hortons docked his $40 million 161 foot Yacht at the Charlottetown Yacht Club in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He visits PEI a few times a year and plays golf at The Links at Crowbush Cove.

The Charlottetown Harbour also gets large Cruise Ships that add a lot to the economic growth of the city of Charlottetown. This helps the PEI Real Estate market as visitors from far away get to see PEI first hand, and may eventually invest in the beautiful island.
