U.S. mortgage interest rates remained historically low during February, keeping mortgages affordable for those who can still qualify.

During the first week of the month, interest rates on 30-year fixed rate mortgages (FRM), as reported by Freddie Mac, jumped up to 5.25 percent, excluding points, from 5.10 percent the previous week. The average rate on a 15-year FRM rose to 4.92 percent from 4.80 percent, while the one-year adjustable rate mortgage (ARM) inched up to 4.92 percent from 4.90 percent.
