&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;img src=&quot;http://activerain.com/image_store/uploads/7/1/3/0/3/ar122747509130317.jpg&quot; height=&quot;482&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; width=&quot;325&quot; /&gt;Let me begin by saying I was a huge fan of del Toro's first Hellboy &amp; Pan's Labyrinth.&lt;/strong&gt; These flick was directed and written by Guillermo del Toro (director of &lt;em&gt;Pan's Labyrinth&lt;/em&gt; a disturbing fairy tale set in Fascist Spain that won the 2006 Oscar for best foreign film).&lt;strong&gt; &lt;/strong&gt;Del Toro attempts to fuse the bam-pow studio mind-set to a more expressive artistic sensibility and dazzles us with some visually astounding images.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;While the first movie dealt with the whole Nazis sinful experiments stuff and the daily life of Hellboy&lt;/strong&gt; and his team, Hellboy II &lt;em&gt;The Golden Army&lt;/em&gt; goes in a more fantastical direction and is about the whole world - real and fantastic - and Hellboy's place in it. For centuries, there's been a treaty among the human race and the mythological world, but a white-faced guy named Prince Nuada thinks the supernatural world has gotten a raw deal and wants to violate the truce. His plan is to wake up the Golden Army, which I'm guessing would be really bad for all us. I need to rewatch it just for the Golden Army encounter at the end. &#160;A few of the jokes fall flat but most of them connect, and the visual comedy is insinuating but appreciated.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The creature creations take first place for bizarre brilliance.&lt;/strong&gt; The most persuasive reasons to see this flick are the fantasy creatures themselves. There are great creatures, my favorite being the tooth fairies (not the kind you are thinking about). Some of them will seem familiar but most of them are original and beautifully executed, and the vast majority of them are not CG. The result is like &quot;Pan's Labyrinth&quot; on steroids.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;I would say it's entirely kid appropriate too...as long as your kid is into magic and monsters.&lt;/strong&gt; In addition any film that's nutty enough to use a Barry Manilow song as its love theme, and get away with it, is nothing if not inspired. Ultimately, the cranium from which it sprang is filled with marvels, so no matter what del Toro chooses to let loose is certain to drum up a swarm of fans.&lt;/p&gt;

Casper Van Dien, leading man of the first flick, returns as Johnny Rico, a ready for action warrior who's reintroduced in his new job as commanding officer of military forces on a farming-colony world. Unfortunately, when his colony is infested by hordes of mammoth, man-eating insects, Rico is held responsible and receives a death decree at his court-martial. But he's allowed to cheat the hangman when an fellow officer and estranged friend drafts him for a liberation mission to a far-away planet.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;It's a little difficult to even give a quick summation because the flick &#160;is literally all over the place. &lt;/strong&gt;We follow more than a few different characters stories on unusual planets at all times. It's a chaotic mess that only makes sense towards the end of the flick where everyone is joined together for the grand battle. The acting is sub-par at best where for the most part characters drift around the screen and read their lines as if this is a comedy flick. More times that I want to count the dialog is just unbelievably awful you have to chuckle and question if they are really taking the flick&#160;seriously.&lt;strong&gt; &lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;ST 3 is still not as good as the first film, but it is much better than ST2. With that said just leave it on the shelf... watch only if you're suffering from insomnia!&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Think Blair Witch Project set indoors crossed with Night of the Living Dead . . . and you'll have a good idea of what to anticipate of Quarantine.&lt;/strong&gt; Told entirely from the point of view of a cameraman's lens, the flick instantly introduces Angela Vidal, host of a TV show called &quot;Night Shift.&quot; Before long the episode has turned into something quite extraordinary.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;It would seem that the rundown apartment building (&lt;em&gt;kinda looks like one of my listings in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn NY&lt;/em&gt;) is contaminated with &lt;/strong&gt;&lt;strong&gt;a kind of super-rabies &lt;/strong&gt;that immediately turns infected residents into wild bloodthirsty maniacs. No sooner have they entered and gone up to Ms. Espinoza's apartment that the woman, foaming at the mouth and confused, unexpectedly attacks one of the rescuers. One bite from the infected and you're infected too. In a surprising and rare demonstration of efficiency, the CDC (Center for Disease Control) arrives to quarantine the building and the residents along with the firemen, policemen and camera crew now trapped inside. Everyone in the building has been written off, and if you so much sneak a quick look out the window snipers will let off at you.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Quarantine is based on the Spanish horror film[REC]&lt;/strong&gt; a flick which is still unreleased in the U.S. Both these flicks differed from Cloverfield and Blair Witch Project in that the hand-held camera work didn't want to make me want to throw up in my popcorn. Maybe that is because the camera is intended to be handled by a trained cameraman employed by a television station. Quarantine had me on the edge of my seat.&lt;/p&gt;
