Beach-side Communities (Bonny Doon & UCSC) - 05/27/10 08:20 PM
To continue my journey through the communities of Santa Cruz County I want to talk about an area which was first established as a logging camp, lies up in the redwoods, and has no city centers or malls. Bonny Doon has been a homestead for residents who enjoy the outdoors and privacy the community has to offer while still keeping the Santa Cruz vibe. Its forested location is well situated with the beach only a short drive away while encompassing a simpler more spacious lifestyle. Bonny Doon is home to many artists, entrepreneurs, musicians and craftsmen inspiring a unique and creative vibe. The community holds a market called Saturdoon in (0 comments)

Beach-side Communities (Swift Street Courtyard) - 05/20/10 07:46 PM
With this blog I will be continuing my tour of the beach-side communities in Santa Cruz County. At the edge of town on the westside of Santa Cruz lies a hidden gem for locals and out-of-towners alike. The Swift Street Courtyard is an excellent destination for some local wine tasting, organic brew, baked goods and grabbing lunch. A full day could be spent in and around this complex due to of all its amenities. The Swift Street Courtyard is a wine connoisseur haven including Bonny Doon Vineyard, Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard, Vino Tabi, Pelican Ranch Winery, MJA Vineyards, and Sones Cellars with Hillcrest (3 comments)
Amgen Tour Of California Comes To Santa Cruz - 05/18/10 06:53 PM
(May 18th) The Amgen Tour of California is coming through Santa Cruz today as stage 3 of the 8 day race. Over 120 world class cyclists left San Francisco at 11:15 this morning and the first racer is expected to finish between 3:20-4:00. This afternoon cyclists will be ripping through town coming down from Bonny Doon through the Westside before finally coming to a day's end at the Boardwalk. The event is a great excitement to residents as this is the largest cycling event in America and the style of the race is compared to the infamous Tour de France with a route of about 800 miles. Live Oak is yet another great community in Santa Cruz. Located near the harbor this midtown location is surrounded by exquisite seafood dining and an array of water sport activities. The Yacht Harbor is a outstanding resource for those who enjoy being on the water either in their own boat or taking a charter for a sunset sail. Chardonnay Sailing has various public and private charters ranging from whale watching and fresh sushi cruises to the astronomy sail where you go out at night and learn about the mysteries of the universe from an astronomy lecturer. With the harbor also comes great food. The Crow's Nest is (2 comments)
3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath Pleasure Point House For Sale - 05/11/10 05:32 PM
One of the most famous surf spots not only in Santa Cruz but on the whole California coast is Pleasure Point. This point break wave has great shape and can provide a challenge for surfers of all levels. As this epic surf spot is one of the defining features of Santa Cruz culture, so is the comfortable beach lifestyle of the Pleasure Point community. This area is rich in history dating back to the early Spanish settlement in the 1700's to the development of the world famous surf and sport brand Oneill.
