Business on the Up in Santa Cruz, Ca - 04/12/11 06:47 PM
Note: This information was taken from Jennifer Pittman's article "County businesses' outlook improving" in the Santa Cruz Sentinel
We've all heard them: claims that the sour economy is recovering. In a recent survey, local businesses discussed changes in economic outlook, and some of their responses were encouraging. Some of these statements, however, concerned a reduction in negative impacts from last year. This means that, while there is some evidence of improvement, there are still discrepancies between current and pre-2009 economic environments.
Analysis of businesses' responses shows a decrease in sales that failed to surpass 2010's numbers, as well as a sizeable drop … (0 comments)

The Struggling Condo Market in Santa Cruz, Ca - 04/12/11 05:44 PM
Note: This information came from the San Francisco Chronicle's Carolyn Said, in her article "Why Condos Are Struggling"
Economic hardships continue to affect the housing market, and the condominium market has been hit particulary hard. With high rates of non-owner occupancy, foreclosures and bankruptcies common in condo complexes, it remains difficult for potential buyers to get necessary loans. Lack of approved buyers limits payment options to cash, dragging down prices.
Newer complexes are more likely to have these problems, since long-time residents of older, established complexes have more affordable mortgages. Long-time residents are therefore more likely to be able to pay … (0 comments)

The Sharks are Making a Comeback to Santa Cruz, CA - 04/06/11 01:15 PM
With all the upset over the San Fracisco Giants opening season, it's good to have solace in a Bay area team doing well in sports. The San Jose Sharks have become the Pacific Division champions, moving onto the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.
It's been somehwat of a rough year for the Sharks, with many ups and downs since the All-Star Break. But many of the players are making unprecedent strides.
Joe Thurnton's next goal/assist will give him 1,000 points, being one of only 79 players to make this mark in history. And with the next win, Coach McLellan will … (0 comments)

Santa Cruz, CA Feels the Pain of the San Francisco Giants - 04/06/11 12:55 PM
The 2010 World Series winners, the San Francisco Giants, had all of the Bay area ecstatic with their win in the Fall. However, this opening season hasn't exactly raised our hopes for even a wild card position just yet.
Perhaps we haven't been so impressed ately because many of our best players are on the injured list, and haven't been able to show their grit that saved us last year. 'The Beard', Bian Wilson, should come off the injured list in a game against the San Diego Padres today after having suffered from an oblique strain. Cody Ross, another valuable player, … (2 comments)

Two Open Houses You Shouldn't Miss in Santa Cruz, CA - 04/01/11 01:46 PM
In real estate, it's important to make sure the homes you are selling are ones that you can be proud of, and hope to live in yourself. I've become very lucky in this respect. Two homes that I am managing, one country home in Larkin Valley with gorgeous mountain views and the other a central Santa Cruz high-end home perfect for entertaining after the beach or a stroll downtown, are both having open houses this weekend.
The country home on White Road is going for a bargain of what it's worth. It sold for $875,000 only about five years ago and … (1 comments)
