cumberland county: New Library With a Wonderful History - 08/19/10 04:46 AM
New Library with a Wonderful History
Crossville, Tennessee has a brand new library facility and it is absolutely gorgeous.  It literally just opened a few months ago and is such a great part of this growing community.  I was reading through the Chamber of Commerce magazine the other day and I was able to find a whole article dedicated to the history of this place.

Every story has a beginning and this place is not any different.  It all started back in 1898.  More than a hundred years ago, a group of women decided to get together and discuss politics, … (0 comments)

cumberland county: Retire to TN - 08/18/10 08:09 AM
Retire to TN
I feel like I keep repeating myself over and over again when I tell retirees to come to Tennessee after they retire.  This great state is the perfect place to come when the time is right after retirement.  Not only are there benefits with taxes, but there are many other amenities that would be perfect for a retiree.
The climate of Tennessee is just perfect.  We see all four seasons through the year but they are mild seasons.  The winters are not too cold and the summers are not too hot.  This state usually stays at a decent … (0 comments)

cumberland county: Tax Free Weekend in Tennessee - 08/07/10 07:15 AM
Tax Free Weekend in Tennessee
One of the greatest things about living in Tennessee is the low amount of taxes.  Unlike many other states, the cost of taxes is significantly lower in Tennessee.  In Cumberland County specifically, there are very low property taxes and no wheel tax.  The only catch is that there is a higher sales tax.  The sales tax for the Cumberland County area is 9.75%.  This weekend is the last before the students gear up and get ready to go back to school.  There is a lot of shopping to be done before they can load up and … (0 comments)

cumberland county: Support the Firefighters! - 08/02/10 03:46 AM
Support the Firefighters!
This was not a major holiday in calendars around the world but a unique day  for Cumberland County on July 31st.  The mayor of Crossville, J.H. Graham III officially made July 31st as Firefighter Appreciation Day.  This growing county can now celebrate the success and hardwork of our local firefighters.
This is a monumental day.  This year is the first official day of the celebration with the title and all.  For years past though, the local firefighters have been spotted in front of local businesses along with many grocery stores to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  From 9am … (0 comments)

Cumberland Lakes Property

I sell land in many parts of Cumberland County and some of the prettiest pieces of property are in Cumberland Lakes.  Cumberland Lakes is located out by Cumberland Cove, past Mayland and is a gorgeous subdivision nestled back in a private community.  This vicinity offers a great deal of privacy because the homes are spread out and the neighbors are the least of anyone's worries.  Not many people know about this area but it is a diamond in the rough!

Cumberland County is Rich in History
I recently read a great article in Lifestyle magazine provided by the Crossville Chamber of Commerce and I found out a ton of information regarding the history of Cumberland County.  This area was actually discovered and can be traced all the way back to the 1750s.  Cumberland County was inhabited by many familiar Indian tribes including the Cherokee and Choctaw.  They traveled over the Cumberland Plateau and settled in many parts throughout the region.
Along with the many Indians that inhabited the plateau, many settlers passed though to travel westward, using trails, roads and highways … (0 comments)

There is a little building located on the corner of the courthouse square that many have probably just drove by.  This building used to be the Tennessee Highway Patrol building for Cumberland County.  With a change of plans, this establishment has been named the new Visitors' Center and Natural Stone Museum.  This place will strengthen and build on the already established history of the Downtown Crossville area and allow visitors along with locals to learn more about the community.  This center was much needed because more and more people are coming to the Crossville area and now they have a place … (0 comments)
