patricia feager: 12 Days of Thanks Giving - Day 8
- 11/19/17 08:25 AM
by Patricia Feager, 11/19/2017 for Debbie Reynolds AR Contest Today I give thanks to ActiveRain, specifically to the people I've talked to over the years and who have inspired me. Reading other people's blog posts is nice but talking to them is even better. What I love about the people on ActiveRain is their diversity from many different places. Even as time goes by, I associate a state with a member I had communication with on ActiveRain. For example, in Montana the first person I thought of was Gerry Khatchiklan. Even though he hasn't posted since 12/24/12, I still think of him because he was

patricia feager: 12 Days of Giving Thanks - Day 7
- 11/18/17 03:52 PM
by Patricia Feager, 11/18/2017 For Debbie Reynolds - AR Contest Today I am thankful for Firefighters, smoke detectors, and Home Inspectors. The inspiration for this blog post is from a photo I took during my recent trip to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. When I saw this fire escape on the side of an old hotel, it sent shivers down my spine. I was reminded of the Ramada Inn fire in Dolton, IL on the morning of October 17, 1976, where my husband and I were rescued. There were 168 of us who had to evacuate and I was five months pregnant at the time. Riding in an

patricia feager: 12 Days of Giving Thanks - Day 6
- 11/17/17 02:37 AM
by Patricia Feager, 11/17/2017 I am thankful we have a tradition of celebrating Thanksgiving Day. It's a wonderful holiday for America that occurs during autumn, a season that is a catalyst for change. When family and friends can get together to have a Thanksgiving dinner, huddle together to watch football, or just celebrate and give thanks, it's a beautiful occasion. Kinship with family is a gift. I'm including a recent photo of my neighborhood park. I love taking walks in the morning. With colors still changing in Flower Mound, Texas, there's an awareness that transformation is a fact of life. The burnt orange needles

patricia feager: Ready - Set - Still ==================== Radiance
- 11/09/17 08:47 PM
©by Patricia Feager 11/9/2017 Learning how to be still, to really be still and let life happen - that stillness becomes a radiance. --- Morgan Freeman I stumbled upon this insect in Eureka Springs, Arkansas a few weeks ago. My guess is it's a katydid; however, an entomologist I am not. Still and all, I kept the same pose. We were both still. Me with my camera - bug doing his thing. What we shared was the learned behavior of FOCUS. An insect lands on a piece of wood and goes to work. With a hungry eye it eats to live. By the same token,

patricia feager: This Girl's Heart Is On Fire
- 11/08/17 03:28 AM
by Patricia Feager, 11/8/2017 Entry for Jim Cheney - Thankfulness An AR Contest Life is the fire that burns and the sun that gives light. Life is the wind and the rain and the thunder in the sky. Life is matter and is earth, what is and what is not, and what beyond is in Eternity. --- Lucius Annaeus Seneca Whether or not it is recorded that the actual first Thanksgiving occured in November doesn't really matter. However, it is fitting that our country celebrates Thanksgiving Day during the seasonal change during autumn, just before winter. As temperatures cool down after 2017 western wildfires, water receeds after hurricanes Harvey, Marie,

patricia feager: American Institute of Architectural Design Award
- 11/05/17 05:26 AM
by Patricia Feager, 11/5/2017 One of the criteria for buyers when moving is often schools and churches. It's an important factor for some homeowners when selecting a new location. In recent travel excursions in 2017, I noticed I also gravitated towards those church steeples pointing towards the sky and found some interesting ones that peaked my interest. This one is the Thorncrown Chapel located one mile west of Eureka Springs, Arkansas on Highway 62 West. Sunday Services are offered from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. THORNCROWN CHAPEL This little church in the woods (two photos) is the winner of the American Institute of Architecture's

patricia feager: The Reflections of Time Change
- 11/04/17 09:47 AM
by Patricia Feager, 11/4/2017 ©The Reflections of Time Change Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree long ago --- Warren Buffett Today is a reminder that Daylight Saving time ends November 5th. Remember, clocks move back 1 hour. While in Eureka Springs, I was reminded about good use of time. It was here on this trail I started out with one primary objective - hike to the Crescent Hotel to get a good breakfast. But when the light stream cut through the trees, I suddenly felt different. In other words, my thoughts, the sights, and the smells that occurred changed my

patricia feager: Branding, Marketing & Taking Responsibility
- 11/02/17 08:46 AM
by Patricia Feager, 11/2/2017 Throwback Thursday For Throwback Thursday I wanted to share my photograph taken at a quaint Coca Cola Ice Cream and Sandwich Shop in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. I framed it in this postage stamp frame in red and green to remind all of us how important Coca Cola was for the holidays and parties. The beverage was served inside people's homes, restaurants, schools, entertainment places, events, and even hospitals. Plus, it wasn't just local to these United States, it is known world-wide and offered in possibly all countries, including prisons. And it was served to prestigious people, e.g., politicians, Prime Ministers,

patricia feager: Autumn Flowers in Flower Mound
- 11/01/17 12:39 PM
by Patricia Feager, 11/1/2017 As temperatures change between warm and cool, there's still time to see beautiful Autumn colors in Flower Mound and North Dallas. In addition, it's a great time to plant annuals like pansies and kale. Don't forget to plant spring bulbs, such as tulips and daffodils; then mulch to retain moisture and insulate roots against cooler temperatures. Lucky for me, my Chrysanthemums are already blooming and I haven't had to plant new ones for several years. The red ones on the top left are very vivid and they are putting on a show! I planted purple pansies, and purple/golden

patricia feager: Save Not to Buy When Time is Right - Save Time to Live
- 11/01/17 05:54 AM
By Patricia Feager, 11/1/2017 WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO BUY PROPERTY? The longer it takes for you to think about it, or say to yourself, I need to accumulate more money, the greater the risk you'll have to have what you need to invest when the time comes. The stock market is unpredictable, so is the housing market. When you're in a Buyer's Market, there is low inventory. Generally speaking, properties are listed for more because of supply and demand. When you're in a Seller's Market, you have a greater probability to sell quicker for more money; however, will you have enough

patricia feager: Distinctly Flower Mound - Armadillo
- 10/14/17 06:06 PM
by Patricia Feager, 10/14/2017 Entry for Dick Greenberg - Real Life Animals (Distinctly Flower Mound Armadillo) Something distinctly different in Flower Mound that many people don't get in other cities are armadillos. Unfortunately, most people don't see them, until it's road kill. Although, I have seen them crawling around early, early morning and late at night, I never saw one during day time. They are very unusual creatures and harmless too. They look prehistoric and odd. My daughter has a great sense of humor. She decided to bake an Armadillo Cake and she sent me the photograph. Long distance is always a problem but we make light of

patricia feager: Distinctly Flower Mound - Farmer's Market
- 10/14/17 10:10 AM
by Patricia Feager, 10/2017 Growing together as a community to promote good health is one of the many distinct reasons why Buyer's choose Flower Mound, Texas. What sets the Flower Mound Farmer's Market located in Parker's Square apart from other Farmer's Markets in North Dallas is that it's not just about the people choosing plants, vegetables, and fruit. This morning I got to see this beautiful dog sniffing out the barbecue sauces. As soon as he was done, he mozzied on over to another friendly dog for communication. Flower Mound is known for being a family community where students are included in gathering places. Here

patricia feager: Distinctly Flower Mound - Quality Education Child Care
- 10/13/17 04:40 PM
by Patricia Feager, 10/13/2017 Flower Mound, TX has many pre-schools. One of my favorites is Primrose School of Northeast Flower Mound, providing quality educational childcare for infants through Kindergarten, after school, and summer camp. The kids are getting reading for Trunk or Treat on October 27th. Whenever I drive by the Primrose Pre-School in Flower Mound, I'm reminded of those little darlings who are just starting to learn. Teachers have to get very creative to keep their attention, stay focused, and make education fun. Kids say and do the silliest things. Discovering who is going to lead and who will follow is always

patricia feager: Distinctly Flower Mound - New Construction
- 10/11/17 06:33 AM
by Patricia Feager, 2017 NEW CONSTRUCTION As the trend of low inventory and choice selections of older homes continues in Flower Mound, buyers may want to consider new construction. Buying new is a completely different process than buying pre-existing homes. There are advantages and disadvantages. Some things to consider include: TIME FOR COMPLETION It takes time to build. Builders need lots, permits, planning and zoning, contractors, e.g., engineers, electricians, roofers, glass and window, plumber, and foundation people, just to name a few. They also need materials, and Buyers. The erection of a building takes time and money. Weather and unexpected delays is a factor. The

patricia feager: The Beauty of Fall & the Quiet of Nature
- 10/09/17 09:55 PM
by Patricia Feager, 10/9/2017 DRAGONFLY I captured the beauty of a blue dragonfly in Dallas on Sunday afternoon, 10/8/2017. His head looks like a marble, don't you think? They say a dragonfly has the eyes of a predator with 30,000 lenses. A dragonfly can see in every direction simultaneously. They are focused on watching prey as it flies in their scope of vision. Even more incredible, it eats food equal to its own body weight in about a half hour. It's prey rarely, if ever escapes. Once trapped, it is eaten. PATRICIA'S BACKYARD FLOWERS Fall flowers that come up every fall. I planted them in

patricia feager: Fire Safety Week Doesn't Have to Be Only In October
- 10/08/17 05:26 PM
by Patricia Feager, 10/8/2017 (revised on 6/7/18) Fire Prevention week started in 1922 when the commemoration for the Great Chicago Fire began long after the devastation from the Great Chicago Fire on 10/8 through 10/10 in 1871. It was followed by President Calvin Coolidge's proclamation for the first National Fire Prevention Week on October 4-10, 1925. At the time of the Chicago Fire, it was a City built of wood, from the houses, to the sidewalks, fences, and roofs were not like they are today. patricia feager: Feager's Fall Flowers
- 10/06/17 11:05 PM
by Patricia Feager, 10/7/2017 Peace begins with a smile --- Mother Teresa Fall flowers are a favorite of mine. When I get up in the moring and see the sun shining it makes me smile. If you look deeply into the center of a flower you can almost feel a spiritual connection, I know I do. Have you ever pulled the petals off a flower and said, "He loves me, he loves me not?" Why do people do that? To rip apart the petals off a flower breaks harmony with nature. There's something about the way the petals move that moves me. It's impossible

by Patricia Feager, 10/6/2017 A HAPPY HALLOWEEN BEGINS AT THE FLOWER MOUND PUMPKIN PATCH I had fun at the Pumpkin Patch taking photos and meandering through the field of dreamy pumpkins. Families can hop on board the wagon for a nice hayride through the patch too! For kids with lots of energy, they can bounce around in the bounce houses too. Now is a great time to think about holiday treats. Whether you make apple pie, pumpkin pie, or something sweet like Baked Alaska, have fun in the kitchen and involve family members to share in the celebrations. It's a great time to check your

patricia feager: Grey Clouds Don't Have to Be Cloudy
- 10/05/17 07:18 AM
by Patricia Feager, 10/5/2017 We have an inner window through which we can see the world, and though it gets cloudy in life, it's our job to wipe it clean and see things as they really are. --- Sabastian Koch My initial reaction to Glacier National Park was, oh shucks, why does there have to be wildfires here while I'm visiting and why doesn't the sun come out? I no sooner started coughing when a man arrived out of nowhere and said, isn't it beautiful? "Beautiful?" I'm surprised my voice didn't scare him away. I've got smoke in my throat and is it going to be cloudy all day? He took a deep breath
