For Debbie Reynolds AR Contest

Despite all the challenges, I am thankful for everything. Today, Thanksgiving Day 23 of the 11th month of 2017 is a day that celebrates by giving thanks. Whether or not you're lucky enough to be with family or friends, volunteering at a homeless shelter or alone, if you are or aren't a person of faith, let us be reminded of all the beauty and dignity of the creation of life here on earth.

2017 has been a year of gratitude. As we witnessed hardship, tragedy, sorrow, and so many unexpected events there was endless love and an … (23 comments)

thanksgiving: 12 Days of Giving Thanks - Day 6 - 11/17/17 02:37 AM
by Patricia Feager, 11/17/2017

I am thankful we have a tradition of celebrating Thanksgiving Day. It's a wonderful holiday for America that occurs during autumn, a season that is a catalyst for change. When family and friends can get together to have a Thanksgiving dinner, huddle together to watch football, or just celebrate and give thanks, it's a beautiful occasion. Kinship with family is a gift.

I'm including a recent photo of my neighborhood park. I love taking walks in the morning. With colors still changing in Flower Mound, Texas, there's an awareness that transformation is a fact of life. The burnt orange needles … (36 comments)

Life is the fire that burns and the sun that gives light.
Life is the wind and the rain and the thunder in the sky.
Life is matter and is earth, what is and what is not,
and what beyond is in Eternity.
--- Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Whether or not it is recorded that the actual first Thanksgiving occured in November doesn't really matter. However, it is fitting that our country celebrates Thanksgiving Day during the seasonal change during autumn, just before winter. As temperatures cool down after 2017 western wildfires, water receeds after hurricanes Harvey, Marie, … (32 comments)

thanksgiving: Day #8 - Thanks To Those Who Are & To Those Who Aren't - 11/23/16 06:56 AM

Regardless of where you go or if you don't go anywhere at all, the days before, on and after Thanksgiving Day are emotional days for all. We think about the ones we love or loved, the ones who are still in our life and those who are not, and we think and wonder about the people who once played an important role in our life but are no longer there. And we sometimes wonder, whatever happened to them?

Like many people, I have fond memories of my mother's dining room table. It was the day we cleaned every … (20 comments)

thanksgiving: Day #4 - I am Thankful for American Farmers - 11/18/16 09:00 PM
Musings 11/19/2016

Today on the 4th day of reflection of what I am thankful for... my mind drifts to the farms of Wisconsin. This past August, I had the good fortune of spending time with my son and granddaughter and their family in Rural America where the smell of earth is different after the rain in Texas. My children and I were born city slickers from the heart of Chicago, close to downtown. I remember the smells of Wisconsin whenever my father packed up the car and took us on those long drives up north. I did the same - venturing out … (29 comments)

thanksgiving: Day #3 - A Special Documentary for Thanksgiving Day - 11/17/16 11:08 PM

I came upon this documentary by accident today. Wait! Perhaps it was not an accident but an opportunity for me to be instrumental in passing along a great message to you, that is so timely today. The Documentary was produced before I was born. I learned more today than yesterday about what it means to celebrate a true day of Thanksgiving. I hope it will be as meaningful to you, as it was for me. It may be a little bit longer than your attention span right now; however, I hope that between today and next Thursday, you have the opportunity … (9 comments)

thanksgiving: November is a Month for Giving Thanks - 10/31/13 03:08 PM

November is the month for giving thanks. I begin my post to wish all the people who are celebrating a birthday this month a warm and Happy Birthday! Many November babies have already experienced the first signs of Autumn. For those in southern climates, like Texas, the red, gold, and other brilliant colors of the foliage are just beginning while others in Utah and other Northern States have already experienced snow. May you all enjoy your special day and find meaningful ways to celebrate life. You came into this world filled with a whimper; you learned how to crawl, walk, talk, … (20 comments)

thanksgiving: Today I am Thankful - Life is Good! - 11/21/12 11:34 PM

Today I am thankful for God and my Country – Especially those Veterans, living and deceased. Because of their sacrifices I am free – with freedom comes the power to choose.

Today I am thankful for my family – Including those whose memories live on through spirit and thought. Because of them, I learned to love.

Today I am thankful for the gifts of nature - plants, animals, water, the environment and all the natural resources which I am blessed to have. Because of this, the way I live is more enjoyable.

Today I … (17 comments)
