Today's Market Means The Old Way of Doing Business Is Over - 10/26/10 06:01 PM
“Some people make the effort to encounter new challenges or to grapple with things they disagree with. They seek out new people and new opportunities and relish the discomfort that comes from being challenged to grow…” – Seth Godin
It is really quite simple.  We aren't going back to the "good old days."  This is it.  We need to accept what is and make it work for us.
If you don't read Seth Godin's blog or books you should.  Easy to digest in today's busy world.

Saint Mary Of Sorrows-The Plan For The Red Cross Was Born Here - 10/24/10 08:28 PM

Another great localism post focusing on another one of our historic white churches.  In this case the church led to the establishment of the American Red Cross.
Per the Red Cross webiste:  "Each year, in communities large and small, victims of some 70,000 disasters turn to neighbors familiar and new—the more than half a million volunteers and 35,000 employees of the Red Cross."That's coming a long way from the days of caring for the wounded in small white churches during the Civil War.

Do You Consider House "Style" As a Factor in the List Price? - 10/24/10 08:19 PM
We all know there are a variety of house "styles' available throughout the US.  In some areas of the country houses rarely come with basements.  Others the three level colonial is the prevalent house style. As a listing agent should you consider not only the location and condition but the style of the home as well when you are pricing a home for sale?  There is little doubt that certain styles of homes seem to be less popular than others.  We fequently hear when talking to a buyer that they aren't interested in split foyer homes.  For some reason the idea … (8 comments)

Rental Sticker Shock Hits Families Relocating To Northern Virginia - 10/23/10 04:05 PM

This week the team fielded more calls from potential renters moving to the area.  Not only the potential sticker shock of the price of homes but also the cost of moving into local condos as well. Many of the larger condo buildings have move-in/move-out or elevator fees which must be paid in advance.  They can be upwards of a $1000.  Part of the money is refundable when you move-out if you follow the condo association rules.  So be prepared.  First months rent, security deposit AND an elevator fee for high rise buildings.
