Most people think Old Town Alexandria is Virginia's oldest chartered town but they would be wrong. As you drive down Route 1 between Woodbridge and Quantico you pass through an area known as Dumfries. It doesn't seem much like a historic area but it is. However chartered one day before Old Town on May 11, 1749, Dumfries was a thriving cultural and commerce center in its time. Once a year residents of Prince William County have the opportunity to spend the night in the Weems-Bott Museum and wait for the ghosts to appear. This is not a staged event but a chance for ghost watchers to see if a ghost appears during the night. Some have called the Weems-Bott Museum the most haunted house in Dumfries.
