Hi Folks,

Been quite busy over the last several months in the world of real estate and been neglecting my blog.

Yesterday, my daughter and I had a great adventure driving along the foothill backroads. We ended up spending a fair amount of tinme between Penryn and Loomis and soon found ourselves on one of the many Placer County Fruit Trails . . . This one being the Mandarin Trail

Both of or eyes lit up at the site of that first sign.

Before long we found ourselves at the Miller's Citrus Grove.

Curt Miller met us and treated us to a tasting and comparison of the Clementine Mandarin and the Satsuma Mandarin. We also learned about the trees growing on their farm and the many variables involved in mandarin production. We also learned of the terrible damage incurred from the hard freeze we had 3 weeks ago .. . They lost 30% of this years crop!

Well my daughter and I could not agree on which variety was the best, so we ended in a split decission -- she liked the Clementine best and I liked the Satsuma best.

We ended up buying a 10lb bag of each, thanked Curt Miller for his hospitality and proceeded to munch on mandarins, one after another for the rest of the afternoon's driving adventure.

Good times for sure!

If you are ever in the Penryn & Newcastle area during the harvest which runs from October to January be sure to stop in at Miller's for a tasting session and buy a bag (or two). It is a good education and a tasty good time for all.

Here is their ranch location with fruit stand:
