For as long as I've lived in Wallingford, and for many years prior to my arrival, the town has marked the Independence Day holiday with a spectacular fireworks display that draws thousands, residents and non-residents alike. In 2009, the town stopped funding the fireworks but found funds for them from savings on a town insurance policy. Beginning the following year, however, funding for the annual event was again eliminated from the town budget, this time for good. Connecticut Fireworks Displays for 2011 As the 4th of July holiday approaches, here is a list of some of the local fireworks displays planned. For a complete list of fireworks events throughout the state, please visit NBC Connecticut's web site. Beacon Falls Family Day Fireworks at Pent Road will be held on Saturday, July 9th. Despite the current financial crunch that threatened to eliminate fireworks shows in Wallingford and Meriden, both have found a way to save their respective annual fireworks displays for 2009. This scenario is being played out in communities across the nation as neighborhoods struggle to find a place in the budget for the popular summertime event. Some, like Yonkers, N.Y. and Tuscon, AZ, have canceled their shows. Other places are also feeling the money crunch, but manage to find the funds to allow the displays to go on as planned.
