interior design: Do You "Point & Delegate"? Or "Get Down & Dirty"? - 09/15/11 02:39 PM
So many times we hear advertising that Home Staging is, “Easy!” or “Not hard work….” yet time and again our Clients (even our furniture movers) are amazed when they enter a home we are in the midst of Staging and see US not only carrying heavy bins filled with accessories, books or bedding; but watch US move a sofa across the room in the blink of an eye. We are not “Point and delegate” Home Stagers. We want it done, and we want it done right – the first time. Case in point: although this was an Interior Design job rather

interior design: Sometimes, Breaking Up Is Not Hard To Do... - 01/05/11 09:46 AM
... Especially when it involves a brick fireplace that you've never been attracted to. Do you have one of these? A dated reminder in your home of just how old it may be? You've never been attracted to it, but it was functional and served it's purpose; yet you never knew how to break it off and move on to something new? These Westlake Village Home Owners were in that exact position when they called Platinum Home Staging, Inc. for "counseling". It was rocky, awkward and lop-sided; but it had a good foundation to work with and our Professionals were able

interior design: Trying to Save an Arm, Might Surely Cost you a Leg - 12/13/10 08:00 PM
This is part of an on-going series concerning acceptance of "the lowest bid" and what you get for the money. More along the lines of "Buyer Beware" or the old adage, "If it's too good to be true, then it probably is." In Interior Design and Construction (or Home Staging) this is consistently true. In this particular case, the Home Owner truly went with the lowest bid; in her own words, "Nobody could touch this Contractors prices". On top of this, she and her husband thought that they would save even more money by acting as their own "contractors" and overseeing the project themselves

interior design: ".... Somebody had been smoking in MY HOME." said Momma Bear - 12/08/10 03:55 PM
The above picture was NOT photo-shopped, but taken on a job site of a Client's home where Platinum Home Staging, Inc. has been brought in to "save the day". You see, these Home Owners thought they would save a little money by not hiring a Professional to help over see the Interior Remodel of their newly purchased home. They instead hired a "contractor" and felt that they would save a lot of money by overseeing the project themselves. This "contractor" does not warrant a capital "C" in our humble opinion by what his company, sub-contractors and tradespeople have done to this couple and

interior design: How to Bring Organized Calm to an 8' x 10' Sound Studio - 10/01/10 09:52 AM
This was a very different project then the typical Interior Design or Re-Design challenge. This was designing a VERY small room (only 8' x 10') into a functional, organized, calm sound studio for a nationally syndicated radio host who works out of her home. Sound quality, acoustics, projection, equipment, wiring, lighting.... as well as a space that Guests could come in to record interviews had to ALL be implemented into this tiny 8' x 10' space. Here are a couple befores of the studio: The Client was inspired by the colors and feel of the new W Hotel in downtown

interior design: I Love the Demolition Phase... - 08/29/10 11:06 PM
.....It means that progress and change are about to take place. While the above picture may frighten most, we at Platinum Home Staging are perfectly comfortable with being "Under Construction". This is NOT a Home Staging project, THIS is a full Interior Design project getting underway in the beautiful city of Westlake Village, CAright in the heart of the Conejo Valley. You see, Platinum Home Staging, Inc. does Staging, plus SO much more. In fact, we are currently the ONLY INTERIOR DESIGN COMPANY in Southern CA that is endorsed by POTTERY BARN. Our Design Professionals, Contractors and Tradesmen are ALL Fully Licensed

interior design: A Lake-Side Interior Design Project: 15 years in the Making - 05/17/10 10:07 AM
OK: the Interior Design itself did NOT take 15 years to complete; it took the Home Owners 15 years to decide to finally call a Professional Interior Decor Company to help them make their lake-side house into the home they always wanted. The entire process from the very first meeting to complete installation only took 8 short weeks. When we were called to transform this room, we were amazed at the beautiful view this home had of the lake just steps away from the home, but the room was very drab, dark and cluttered. The Home Owners had offered their house up

interior design: An "OMG" Re-Design / Interior Design......errrr Patio Design - U B the Judge! - 01/12/10 08:12 PM
What many people don't know is that Professional Home Stagers also make GREAT Interior Designers....or in this case, Patio Designers. This morning my company did this installation in Studio City, CA for a high priced office complex, but their Valet Patio and Roof Top Deck was far from attractive to fetch new Clients to fill any vacancies. Valet Patio - Before Valet Patio - After : Newly upholstered cushions, new tables, new accessories, the drapes were actually there before but we added the red stripe to pull it all together. This is certainly a case of

interior design: A MASSIVE Kitchen Remodel... - 12/22/09 10:01 AM
OK, maybe more along the lines of a major demolition, this post is concurrent with previous blogs Do You Wanna Shag, Baby? and From Pepto-Pink to Classic Cool . This Westwood, CA bungalow went through a major overhaul in the past few weeks and this is definitely one of the BEST rooms of the transformation - the now eat-in kitchen. Original Kitchen & Dining Room This was the 1950's/60's kitchen before which had NEVER been touched since the home was built. Barely big enough for one person to stand, let alone cook. As seen through this picture, modern appliances such as a stove

interior design: "Do You Wanna Shag, Baby? YEAH!" - 12/17/09 05:45 PM
Shag carpeting that is - sorry if I disappointed you. Would you like some "Shag" with your house? This Interior Design project is in conjunction with a previous blog, From Pepto Pink to Classic Cool. This is the main living room of the Westwood, CA 1950's Bungalow complete with original, 3″ (although very matted down) shag carpeting. The owners wouldn't even consider bringing their young toddler into the house until this was gone for fear of what "was living" in the carpeting. But what these first time home buyers COULD see was the home's potential. GREAT coffered ceilings, huge windows, large living space. What

interior design: This Home Stager is Now Your Independent Distributor of Eastern Accents Bedding - 01/22/09 09:17 AM
When you see those beautiful bedding ensembles in model homes, at furniture stores or in magazines, almost 80% of those are made from the umbrella company of Eastern Accents which also manufactures Feathersound, de' Medici Fine Linens, Studio 773 and so much more. However, Eastern Accents and its affiliates only deal directly with wholesalers and Industry Trade and Retailers. Platinum Home Staging, Inc. is now a proud Independent Distributor of Eastern Accents. What this means to the consumer is that you can custom make your bedding with any

interior design: Getting the look for Less - Bedding 101 - 10/11/08 04:19 PM
How many times have you walked into a room and seen all signs of life sucked out of it? Bedrooms more specifically... How many times have you walked into a home and seen the "master suite bed" look like this? "Clean & White" in this instance is usually portrayed as lack-luster or forgotten about. Remember, most people spend over 33% of their lifetime IN THEIR BED! Why not make it the MOST welcoming, MOST luxurious, SHOW STOPPING stop in the house? Even if you're not selling your home, updating the look and feel of your bed can only benefit all parties

interior design: Got Wrought? - 10/01/08 09:43 AM
Wrought Iron that is? Just as beautiful jewels dangle from the lobe of a perfectly coiffed femme-fetal, wrought iron can be the final touch to any commercial property, home or grand estate. Setting the tone as guests arrive at your gated motor courtyard or welcoming potential clients into your business reception area or showroom; decorative, custom metal work will set you apart from the status quo. One of my personal favorites in the Southern California area is Pacific Industrial and Construction Co. locally based in Newbury Park, CA. PIC is a family owned and run

interior design: These 'aint your grandma's Wallpapers! - 09/25/08 02:02 AM
Who would have thought that your grandma's tea cups on the walls in the kitchen, the metallic floral or the burlesque velvet wallpapers would be back "in"? OK - maybe none of the above, but the wallpapers of today are very cool and are VERY much the new and hot "in" option to simply painting your walls. Whether it is simply adding a new texture or raised pattern to your walls to then paint over with your favorite color or adding natural beauty and drama, here are three of my favorites. My #1 all time favorites are the Phillip Jefferies
