general information: Don't Rely on a Fence to Determine Boundaries - 08/06/09 12:28 AM
Keep in mind when purchasing a property that the fences do not necessarily represent the properties' boundaries. In many cases, the previous owner of a property had fences installed without the assistance of an accurate survey, or is simply replacing a fence that was built by a former owner who did not know where the property lines were located.
If it is important for you to know exactly where the property lines are -- and it should be -- always insist upon a property survey if there's any doubt. You'd be surprised at how many fences have been built on estimated … (0 comments)

general information: The Purpose of an Escrow Account - 07/04/09 01:07 AM
If you've never owned a home, the term "escrow account" may sound a bit alien. In short, an escrow account is a special account set up by your lender that holds a percentage of your monthly payment and places it aside to pay your property insurance, mortgage insurance (PMI), real estate property taxes, and other fees affecting the home or property.
The idea behind an escrow account is to keep your homeowner's insurance, real estate taxes and other obligations up-to-date, thus protecting the lender -- and you, the homeowner -- in the event the property is destroyed or if your real … (0 comments)

general information: All Home Warranties Are Not the Same - 12/01/08 03:14 PM
Whether you're buying or selling a home, chances are good that a home warranty will be discussed at some point. So, what is it?
In short, a home warranty is a service contract -- similar to an insurance policy -- that protects the new home owner against the cost of unexpected repairs or replacement on major systems and appliances that may break down due to normal use. Of course, the coverage is only for systems and appliances in good working condition at the start of the warranty period.
All home warranty plans are not the same, so be sure to check … (3 comments)

I recently lost a dog due to old age. Her name was Jazzy and she was 14 years old. Talk about a loss, It will be a while before I get over her as she was a great dog. Pets of all kinds have provided companionship to humans for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. While pets can be fun and rewarding, following are some factors to take into account before making … (0 comments)

general information: Existing-Home Sales Projected to Improve - 08/29/08 02:03 PM
I just ran across some very optimistic information about home sales in the future. This is good news for all of us. The report is as follows:
According to a mid-August report by the National Association of Realtors®, some improvement is projected for existing-home sales in the months ahead, with broader gains seen by the fourth quarter as buyers take advantage of new provisions provided through the recently passed housing stimulus bill.
The Pending Home Sales Index (PHSI), a forward-looking indicator based on contracts signed in June, rose 5.3 percent to 89.0 from a downwardly revised reading of 84.5 in May, … (2 comments)
