A Tribute to the Spouses who Support us in Real Estate - 05/31/07 04:02 PM
When I was growing up, my mom (Pat Pope) was a hard-working, top producing Realtor and my dad (John Pope) was really her biggest support system. While holding an open house, mom would arrive early to get the house properly set - curtains open, lights on, all of the usual stuff. To

Another side of town: Los Gatos Boulevard - 05/31/07 11:45 AM
My family and I spend a lot of time on Los Gatos Boulevard, whether it is for grocery shopping, picking up lunch from the salad bar at Whole Foods, doing our banking or getting the car washed. The Boulevard is bustling with activity, but it's a different type of activity then

The Cats of Los Gatos - 05/30/07 12:07 PM
The town of Los Gatos ("The Cats") got its name long before there was a town logo involving animals by that name. Supposedly, they were originally created as distinct from the name of the town - not for the name of the town at all. Officially endorsed, these two cats (Leo

"My termite company won't go into my crawl space" - 05/29/07 11:12 PM
Recently one of homes in our neighborhood got tented (fumigated) for drywood termites. The owners are people we know. My husband bumped into them at the neighborhood drug store last weekend and one of them said to him "my termite company won't go into my crawl space". He was wondering aloud if

Project Blogger Week 7 Summary - 05/27/07 08:12 PM
This was a challenging week as I was both out of town and sick for much of it (I am almost well...). But since I managed to pre-write daily posts before the Boston trip, at least my main blog, Live in Los Gatos (http://liveinlosgatos.realtownblogs.com/), got populated daily. That makes it a successful

Like Wine? Silicon Valley's Secret Wine Cache - 05/24/07 11:26 PM
Before the prohibition, the area we now call Silicon Valley had many wineries ringing the hills especially. They were destroyed in the prohibition years, mostly, but not for good. Today the town of Los Gatos and the nearby hillsides enjoy many vineyards and wineries. If you like wine tasting, let's be

Theater, films, music, paintings all grace Los Gatos: it is a very artsy town. But it's also a down to earth town with lovely murals dotting the landscape. Come take a look at a slideshow I put together from my photos around town of the murals in Los Gatos. To see the

How much are homes really appreciating in Silicon Valley? - 05/18/07 08:51 AM
Early in my career, a seasoned agent let me in on a secret: the best way to know how homes are really doing (in terms of appreciation) is to find a particular floorplan in a larger development and simply track where it sells from year to year. (Just take each sale with

Oil...in Los Gatos - 05/12/07 10:16 AM
Los Gatos appeals to people for many reasons, and in the 1800s folks began to move in to this corner of now Silicon Valley, plant, build, and develop. Recently I learned that oil had been found in the area too, and that created quite a stir, way back in the time machine. There are

Strategizing Topic Order - 05/05/07 09:43 AM
Since I'm in Project Blogger, each week I spend a little time at my week's worth of posts to check a few things (not that these criteria are being judged, but just for the sake of good writing): do the posts have differing lengths? are the topics and categories varied? what

Learning in the Rain - 05/03/07 01:07 AM
When Ken Deshaies invited me to Active Rain, I had no idea what the deal was. I barely knew what it meant to blog. The idea of meeting more than 10,000 real estate professionals online sounded like a marketing meeting without end. In other words, I wasn't so sure about it.But
