real estate: Hard Rock Park is open! - 04/22/08 08:19 PM
That's right, Ladies and Gentleman... the Hard Rock Park is now open!  Sort of...
Called the "Sound Check", the park's soft opening commenced on April 15, with a grand opening scheduled for May 9.  (One woman even paid $1,829 for the first 4 seats on the "Stairway to Heaven" roller coaster - in the front, of course.)
A special opening celebration concert and golf tournament is scheduled for June 2 & 3, when the Eagles and the Moody Blues are scheduled to perform.  Tickets are still available for the event; click here to tour the Hard Rock's website.
Come on down and be one of the … (4 comments)

real estate: Sad story for a great cause... - 03/08/08 01:33 PM
My wife recently went back to her hometown of Seattle, WA, to attend a yearly charity auction that she has supported for the past 10+ years.  This auction is held by a local guild raising funds for uncompensate care for kids at Children's Hospital.
Each year they bring in a guest speaker who explains the benefits of Children's Hospital.  It is usually a parent who has had to endure their child's sickness, or one of the doctors who is continuously working with these children.  This year's guest speaker was a 5-year old boy from Iraq, who is currently staying with one of the guild members while … (1 comments)

real estate: A Tribute to my Mentor... - 02/25/08 06:16 PM
About 6 years ago, I had the privilege of meeting a man who would have a major part in changing my life.
This older Dutch gentleman, and his beautiful Southern belle wife, have become two of the greatest influences to my wife & I, and I'd like to share a few tidbits of wisdom he has thrown our way over the years...
"Treat money like s*** - if you stack it up in a pile, it just stinks.  You have to spread it around to make things grow"
"Son, you can't fly with the eagles if you're hanging around with turkeys"
"What are you... stupid?"  … (2 comments)

real estate: How are those Resolutions coming? - 02/20/08 11:58 AM
Here we are in the middle of February... a good 50 days from New Years and I am curious... how are those Resolutions going?
If you recall, I made the proclamation that I don't make resolutions.  At the beginning of the year, I was in the process of making a "lifestyle change".  In late November, I began eating at home more, eating the right foods, and attempting to incorporate more exercise into my schedule.
I did well all through the holidays - the toughest time for most.  What finally derailed my terrific progress was my office move and the stress involved in … (3 comments)

real estate: Interested in Myrtle Beach? - 01/10/08 11:37 AM
We invite you to spend an hour with us next week at an exclusive invitation-only event (schedule below).  You'll have the chance to meet with local experts (including our very own Bill Lagan, a native New Yorker who relocated to Myrtle Beach after 33 years as a Mahopac school teacher), and gain an insider's perspective on what brings New Yorkers, midwesterners, and even west coasters to Myrtle Beach - and why they just can't leave.  We'll throw back the curtain on what's going on in Myrtle Beach right now that will completely - and forever - transform our market and create … (0 comments)

real estate: Democracy in Myrtle Beach - 01/09/08 05:20 PM
Finishing out the first week of 2008 yesterday, I must say that I had hoped for a major change.  A huge shift.  The shudder of the commerce gear beginning to grind away.  Alas, no shudder... just the constant buzz of the polical machine heading towards South Carolina.
Yes, the debate is taking place tomorrow night and the city is quaking with anticipation for our famous visitors.  It's exciting to be a part of the electoral process... HERE in little ol' Myrtle Beach!
A sand sculpture has been erected in the candidates honor across from the convention center - similar to Mount Rushmore, … (0 comments)

Just a quick note from me, and my entire staff here at Price & Company Realty...
We'd like to extend our heartfelt and most sincere thanks to those in our United States military who are unable to make it home for the holidays.  It is because of you that we are able to so easily enjoy the freedom to visit family, take vacations, shop anywhere we please.  Your protection allows us our every freedom - and we thank you for that.
Please take a moment to thank the members of the armed forces - actively serving or retired.  One way is to visit … (0 comments)

real estate: They're called "half-backs" for a reason... - 11/30/07 10:25 PM
"Half-Backs"...  You may have heard this phrase in the sporting world, but here in the Carolinas, it's got a WHOLE different meaning.
I'm sure everyone has heard of, or personally experienced, the great migration of those folks who are tired of the cold and snowy winters in the North.  They pack up and move as far South as possible with dreams of palm trees, sunny days and a laid-back lifestyle.
A few years (or even months) go by and the realization hits... it's REALLY HOT down here!  Maybe they still have family up North and resent the fact that it takes two days to get there … (1 comments)

real estate: Media Fabrications - 11/07/07 04:29 PM
On October 27, the South Carolina Association of REALTORS forwarded the following article to all members of the Association:
In an attempt to shock its readers into buying newspapers, editors at The State Newspaper (Columbia, SC) fabricated a sensational headline. Wednesday's readers saw "Home sales plunge" stretched across the front page above the fold. (If you'd like to read the article, click here. However, immediately below the banner, the article explains, "sellers appear to be holding out for the asking price they want . . . prices rose close to 6 percent . . . for the year, however, the slide pushed Columbia's … (0 comments)

real estate: The Truth about Foreclosures - 11/07/07 03:52 PM
With all the negative media coverage of the real estate market recently, I took an unscientific poll today and asked some smart folks their thoughts about real estate foreclosures. Specifically, I wanted to see how well the media's bashing of real estate has convinced folks that the sky is falling. I asked, "Based on the number of South Carolina real estate foreclosures and North Carolina real estate foreclosures that took place during the second quarter of 2006, what do you think happened during the same period in 2007?" Every person I asked thought that the number of foreclosures was up - … (2 comments)

real estate: Myrtle Beach: Hot or Cold? - 10/02/07 10:40 AM
Unless you live under a rock, you've heard all of the bad news recently about the real estate 'bubble' and the mortgage market crisis from our friends in the national media. But, as they say, all real estate is local. Compared to 2005, there's no question that sales are down along the Grand Strand, but how bad is it, really? One media outlet has compared short term and long term home price trends to determine which local markets are hurting, and which are doing just fine, thank you.
The results are surprising.

real estate: Lower Mortgage Rates Ahead! - 09/27/07 02:30 PM
Wall Street got a surprise on September 18. Many expected a quarter-point cut in interest rates, but were treated to an unexpected half-point cut instead. The prime rate -- which influences many consumer and business loans - is expected to follow the Fed's rate cut. If so, the prime rate would drop to 7.75% from 8.25%. The prime rate has been at 8.25% for the past 15 months. For consumers, the rate cut will mean lower rates on many adjustable rate credit cards, home equity lines of credit and other consumer loans pegged to the prime rate. Some house-strapped consumers also … (1 comments)

real estate: Is the Buyer's Market almost over? - 09/27/07 02:27 PM
With the mortgage industry crisis topping the news recently, qualified real estate buyers have finally decided that now is the right time to crawl back out of the woodwork. Reports of competing buyer offers are on the rise again, which makes sense because these buyers are focused on the properties that are in good shape and priced to move. Determining if the market is finally turning around is fairly straightforward. Is the amount of unsold inventory (i.e., listings) trending up or down? What about the number of sales? Number of days the property is on the market? And yes, finally... price. … (1 comments)

real estate: What happened to customer service? - 09/25/07 05:44 PM
The key to a successful business is to provide outstanding customer service.  It's no wonder, then, that various carriers in the airline industry have such a hard time staying in business.  On a recent trip across the country, my wife and I flew a major carrier that we hadn't flown with in quite some time.  And it didn't take long to remember why we chose not to use their services.
While the staff at the check-in desks were friendly while attaching the luggage tags (which is the extent of the service they provided - the kiosks did the rest), the flight attendants were … (3 comments)

real estate: Across State Lines, Part 2... - 09/25/07 05:22 PM
Quick Recap:  After requesting information on a property across the country, I was informed (via e-mail) that an in-person meeting was required to receive the information.
After receiving this agent's request for a "sit down" meeting, I replied back to explain that this was impossible at the moment, as I live across the country.  I again requested that the information be sent via e-mail so I may review it.
The agent replied back that he would have to "go get the information", but that he was going out of town over the weekend and I would get it "on Monday or Tuesday".  As … (0 comments)

real estate: Across State Lines... Part I - 09/25/07 04:15 PM
My wife and I were considering purchasing an investment property in her hometown on the West Coast.  After revewing some of the options available in the area we liked, we initiated contact with the agent shown on the listing.  We sent an e-mail request asking for specific information about the property, and indicated that we would appreciate the information be sent via e-mail.
The response we received was truly unexpected.  First, the agent that responded was not the listing agent.  It appears our name was just handed off to the next agent "up" in this massive franchise brokerage.  Secondly, the agent replied … (1 comments)

real estate: Look out, Chicken Little... - 09/04/07 07:25 PM
The National Association of Realtors is reporting that home sales for the month of July were down 9% from the same period a year ago. Add to this the recent triple-whammy in the financial press of dismal housing starts, housing permits and mortgage lender meltdowns, and you can guess what we expect to see when the August numbers are released next week. A closer look at the real numbers reveals light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. The Commerce Department reported both housing starts and permits down sharply, but simultaneously, new home sales rose 2.8%. Do the builders see something … (1 comments)
