waterfront: Friday Afternoon Funny - 05/02/08 08:56 AM
This struck me funny today... thought I'd share it...

I was walking past the mental hospital the other day and all the patients were shouting ,'13....13....13'The fence was too high to see over but I saw a little gap in the planks and looked through to see what was going on.OUCH!  Some jerk poked me in the eye with a stick! They started shouting again...
'14....14....14'...

Have a great weekend!

waterfront: Waterway vs. Oceanfront - 05/01/08 07:46 AM
Here in Myrtle Beach, we are fortunate to have the Intracoastal Waterway as an alternative route for nautical transportation.  The ICW traverses the east coast of the United States from Texas to Main.  It is calm, has a tidal variation of between 2-5' depending on the location, and is home to various shops, restaurants, marinas, and easy outlets to the Atlantic Ocean.
One benefit to living on the ICW is that (at least in Myrtle Beach), it does not see the extreme weather that the oceanfront is subject to.  If a tropical storm or hurricane is approaching, the mandatory evacuation line is drawn at … (0 comments)

waterfront: Hard Rock Park is open! - 04/22/08 01:19 PM
That's right, Ladies and Gentleman... the Hard Rock Park is now open!  Sort of...
Called the "Sound Check", the park's soft opening commenced on April 15, with a grand opening scheduled for May 9.  (One woman even paid $1,829 for the first 4 seats on the "Stairway to Heaven" roller coaster - in the front, of course.)
A special opening celebration concert and golf tournament is scheduled for June 2 & 3, when the Eagles and the Moody Blues are scheduled to perform.  Tickets are still available for the event; click here to tour the Hard Rock's website.
Come on down and be one of the … (4 comments)

waterfront: A Tribute to my Mentor... - 02/25/08 10:16 AM
About 6 years ago, I had the privilege of meeting a man who would have a major part in changing my life.
This older Dutch gentleman, and his beautiful Southern belle wife, have become two of the greatest influences to my wife & I, and I'd like to share a few tidbits of wisdom he has thrown our way over the years...
"Treat money like s*** - if you stack it up in a pile, it just stinks.  You have to spread it around to make things grow"
"Son, you can't fly with the eagles if you're hanging around with turkeys"
"What are you... stupid?"  … (2 comments)

waterfront: How are those Resolutions coming? - 02/20/08 03:58 AM
Here we are in the middle of February... a good 50 days from New Years and I am curious... how are those Resolutions going?
If you recall, I made the proclamation that I don't make resolutions.  At the beginning of the year, I was in the process of making a "lifestyle change".  In late November, I began eating at home more, eating the right foods, and attempting to incorporate more exercise into my schedule.
I did well all through the holidays - the toughest time for most.  What finally derailed my terrific progress was my office move and the stress involved in … (3 comments)

waterfront: Why Real Estate is like Jennifer Lopez... (or Focus on What's Really Important) - 02/18/08 08:23 AM
Thanks to Mark Koestner of www.quitworksomeday.com, on whose blog post this is based.
In the national media these days, real estate is like Jennifer Lopez. It's all about the bottom. In the Wall Street Journal Blog "Real Time Economics,"James Glassman, economist at J.P. Morgan Chase, argues most of the necessary decline in home prices has already occurred. "Given the present trends in income and house prices, real estate excesses of the past five years will have vanished by spring 2008," he argues in a new report. Thanks, James. Spring of '08 you say? Right around the corner. Great, but ... "There is … (2 comments)

waterfront: The Tide is Turning... - 01/17/08 08:23 AM
The latest market data report has been released from the South Carolina Association of REALTORS, indicating that not only was 2007 another record year for South Carolina, but that pending sales activity (especially on the coast) has already increased.
The one challenge that the SCAR mentioned will be our biggest obstacle... consumer confidence.  The negative hype, and the gloom-and-doom reporting, make it seem like our market is in much worse shape.  The truth of the matter is, we're in fantastic shape and we're getting better every day.
As the SCAR CEO Nick Kremydas says, "Talking about national averages is about as effective as … (4 comments)

waterfront: New Years - 01/09/08 10:56 AM
Now that we've begun a brand new year, I'm hearing more and more about how people are refusing to make "New Years Resolutions" anymore.  And you know what... I agree with them!  Typically, a resolution is made and broken within a few days (sometimes hours), inevitably resulting in someone's disappointment that they failed in their endeavor, whatever it may be.
Everyone has a goal they'd like to reach:  Lose weight.  Quit smoking.  Be nicer.  Keep my cool in traffic.  Exercise more.  Be successful.  But placing an immediate timeframe on these goals is unreasonable.  Take each goal and set REALISTIC deadlines - whether its … (0 comments)

waterfront: The Truth about Foreclosures - 11/07/07 07:52 AM
With all the negative media coverage of the real estate market recently, I took an unscientific poll today and asked some smart folks their thoughts about real estate foreclosures. Specifically, I wanted to see how well the media's bashing of real estate has convinced folks that the sky is falling. I asked, "Based on the number of South Carolina real estate foreclosures and North Carolina real estate foreclosures that took place during the second quarter of 2006, what do you think happened during the same period in 2007?" Every person I asked thought that the number of foreclosures was up - … (2 comments)

waterfront: Top 5 Reasons Why It's Time to Buy in Myrtle Beach! - 10/16/07 04:54 AM
1. Location, location, location. In the past, Myrtle Beach buyers had to choose between price vs. location. Today, there is inventory available in every area, in every price range. You can get exactly what you want, where you want it. 2. Selection, selection, selection. There are just over 5,700 resale homes on the market right now, so there are plenty of houses from which to choose. There are lots of options in this market. 3. Make an offer - please! A few years ago when you made an offer, the real question was, how high did you have to be in … (0 comments)

waterfront: Market Activity - 10/10/07 09:01 AM
For all the Buyers out there looking for the best opportunities, we'd like to remind you of a few options in the Myrtle Beach area that you should take a few moments to consider...
The Intracoastal Waterway has become an increasingly popular and desirable location for residences in Myrtle Beach.  Homes and homesites located on this serene body of water have become more available, and are incredibly reasonable when compared to oceanfront properties.
The following five Carolina Forest gated communities have been recently constructed, or are currently under construction, and have allowed property owners to access the Intracoastal Waterway with very little financial investment:

waterfront: Little River gem - 10/10/07 08:26 AM
Little River is a quaint and picturesque town just south of the North Carolina state line.  Located on the Intracoastal Waterway, it is bustling with activity both on and off the water!  It is also home to the "World Famous Blue Crab Festival"!
Within walking distance of two major marinas in Little River is Waterway Cove.  This charming neighborhood sits tucked away from the major highway through town, but its location offers easy access for travel and other conveniences.

waterfront: End of the season? - 10/02/07 04:11 AM
It is the first week of October, and it is another beautiful day here in Myrtle Beach.  Temperatures have been holding in the low- to mid-80's range over the past week, but they say we may get some rain today... and boy, do we need it!
A handful of restaurants have closed for the season, and the boats aren't travelling the Intracoastal Waterway nearly as much as usual.  Even with these warm temperatures, it's surprising to me that restauranteurs and navigators are throwing in the towel so quickly.  It's still gorgeous around here!
Let me propose this... instead of travelling north to see the colors … (0 comments)
