Here in Myrtle Beach, we are fortunate to have the Intracoastal Waterway as an alternative route for nautical transportation. The ICW traverses the east coast of the United States from Texas to Main. It is calm, has a tidal variation of between 2-5' depending on the location, and is home to various shops, restaurants, marinas, and easy outlets to the Atlantic Ocean. One benefit to living on the ICW is that (at least in Myrtle Beach), it does not see the extreme weather that the oceanfront is subject to. That's right, Ladies and Gentleman... the Hard Rock Park is now open! Sort of... Called the "Sound Check", the park's soft opening commenced on April 15, with a grand opening scheduled for May 9. (One woman even paid $1,829 for the first 4 seats on the "Stairway to Heaven" roller coaster - in the front, of course.) A special opening celebration concert and golf tournament is scheduled for June 2 & 3, when the Eagles and the Moody Blues are scheduled to perform. The latest market data report has been released from the South Carolina Association of REALTORS, indicating that not only was 2007 another record year for South Carolina, but that pending sales activity (especially on the coast) has already increased. The one challenge that the SCAR mentioned will be our biggest obstacle... consumer confidence. It is the first week of October, and it is another beautiful day here in Myrtle Beach. Temperatures have been holding in the low- to mid-80's range over the past week, but they say we may get some rain today... and boy, do we need it! A handful of restaurants have closed for the season, and the boats aren't travelling the Intracoastal Waterway nearly as much as usual. Even with these warm temperatures, it's surprising to me that restauranteurs and navigators are throwing in the towel so quickly. It's still gorgeous around here!
