How to reduce spam email - 07/19/07 09:27 PM
A non-techie solution to reducing email spam
You plastered your email address all over the internet.  Good for you.  Your clients can easily find you online.  But.... bummer.  You are getting tons of spam.  What you can do:
How the spammer jerks get your email address
Evil people use evil software called Harvesters.  To gather email addresses, evil people enter specific information into the program and then hit Go.  People who want notaries to buy stuff from them would specify the word Notary.  They could also specify other details, like California, CA, listing, journal, stamp, certificate, loans, real, estate, property, home, house, county name, etc.

Pen for Reverse Mortgage signings - 07/16/07 12:54 PM
Lots of seniors have trouble signing Reverse Mortgage documents due to weak hands, arthritis, injury, and other medical problems.
So I carry a pen like this in my notary briefcase.  People with weak or painful hands love them.
This type of pen requires much less strength and effort compared to a regular pen.  Cost is around $4-$5 each.  They can be refilled.
My state requires blue ink for notarizations.  I had to do a bit of searching to find a company that sold the blue ink refills.  Office Depot, Walgreens, and Staples sometimes have pens like this.  I get mine from the Mom and Pop stationery … (6 comments)

Notaries: Watch out for "authorization to check credit report" clause - 07/10/07 08:41 PM
A lender I've worked with for years sent me an "update" form recently. In tiny letters was a statement that my signature allowed them to check my personal credit report whenever they wish. I lined through and initialed. Since I never provide my social security number, I am not worried they will check it anyway: they can't. I only provide a TIN to companies.Watch out for these clauses in "info" forms as well as contracts. … (5 comments)
