York Region Transit (YRT) / VIVA strike suspended for February 21, 2011
Previously, I had advised about the planned York Region Transit / VIVA strike that would affect part of the transit system starting on February 21, 2011 (see activerain.com/blogsview/2147221/transit-strike-in-york-region-to-start-on-tuesday-february-21-2011).
According to the latest update, the planned strike has been suspended.  Union members will be voting on a deal in the near future.  This is the second time in the past week that a planned strike has been averted.
Therefore, all YRT / VIVA services will continue to operate on regular schedules.

Family Day 2011 occurs on Monday, February 21, 2011.
Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) buses, subways, streetcars and LRT will be operating on a Sunday / holiday service.
GO Transit, including GO buses and GO trains, will be operating on a Saturday schedule.

Transit Strike in York Region to start on Tuesday February 21, 2011
On Friday, February 18, 2011, York Region advised that one of the union locals will be invoking their right to strike against one of the contractor companies that operate some of the York Region Transit routes.
24 routes that operate primarily in the City of Vaughan are affected.  In addition, some routes in the Towns of Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Aurora and Markham and the Township of King are also affected.

York Region Transit has announced that it will be making changes to the schedules of more than 40 bus routes on YRT and VIVA in York Region on February 27, 2011.
Transit users should review their bus route schedules to determine whether their routes are affected.  In many cases, buses are scheduled to come less frequently.  In some cases, there are cancellations or reductions of service at certain times of the day.

Winterfest at Markham Museum.
There will be fun and excitement for the entire family.  A great way to spend Family Day is at the Markham Museum.  Skate, snowshoe, build snowmen and test your snowball aim against targets.  There will be lots of activities, crafts and great food too!!!

Presidents Day occurs on the third Monday in each February and occurs on February 21 in 2011.
According to Wikipedia, the official name of Presidents Day is Washington's Birthday in honor of George Washington, the first President of the United States of America.  It is a United Stated federal statutory holiday.  Many states also have official holidays on the same date.
