May 2, 2011 is a big day in Canada
It is going to be a big day in Canada on May 2, 2011.  It is the date of two significant events:
1)  Personal income tax due date for your calendar 2010 income tax returns and income tax payments.  The deadline is actually April 30, 2011 but April 30 falls on a Saturday and, therefore, the deadline automatically is extended until Monday, May 2, 2011.

You can vote at advance polls prior to the May 2, 2011 voting day for the federal election.
Advance polls will occur on

At least one municipality in the Greater Toronto Area is allowing voters to vote electronically over the internet but not Toronto.

How many candidates are running for Mayor in the 2010 Toronto municipal election?
This is a very good question.  I was quite surprised to see that there are 40 people who are running for mayor as listed below.  The 40 people includes those people who have announced that they are withdrawing from the race after the nomination deadline closed.  Further below is a list of people who had signed up to run for mayor but subsequently officially withdrew prior to the withdrawal deadline.
I obtained this list from www.elections.ca/toronto on October 3, 2010.
