Markham residents are invited to help themselves to some free garden compost made from last Spring's collected leaf and yard waste. Bring your own shovels and containers. There is a six container limit per vehicle. Compost will be available until 2:00 p.m. or while supplies last. This is a one day event only on April 21, 2012. Rain or shine.

The new Markham Civic Centre outdoor ice rink, which first opened in late 2011, has now closed for the 2011 / 2012 ice skating season.
The Town of Markham reports that over 15,000 skaters used this beautiful outdoor ice rink which is conveniently located on the grounds of the Markham Civic Centre located on the northwest corner of Warden Avenue and Highway 7 East.

Markham Civic Centre Ice Rink Temporarily Closed Due to Warm Weather
The Town of Markham has announced that the ice rink at the Markham Civic Centre is temporily closed due to warm weather. Water from melting snow has been flowing onto the pad and melting the existing ice. Due to the expection of 10 to 15 mm of rain, rebuilding of ice is prevented temporarily.
the Town of Markham hopes to have the ice rebuilt and have the ice rink re-opened on Tuesday March 6, 2012.
