The Chinese New Year 2010.....A Feng Shui Consultant's Thoughts on what you can do to have your BEST Year EVER!!

As in interest in Feng Shui in New York and many other Cities grow each year, so does my annual post on what to implement in YOUR business plans for the coming Chinese New Year. I believe if I had started out with a long list in 2006 when there was little interest or belief in Feng Shui, you might not have taken the suggestions.

For you Clutterbugs out there, if you're ever going to clear up and clear out, THIS is the time to do it! We're concentrating on doing everything we can to help ourselves have a wonderful New Year that is predicted to be difficult for many. These Feng Shui Tips and Advice aren't difficult, don't cost much money and (best of all!), they're nothing that both Feng Shui Long Island NY and Feng Shui Manhattan don't do ourselves.

Here's the rest of the list:

Clean your mirrors. You always want a true reflection of you so you can see yourself (and life) clearly.

If you can, wash some key outdoor windows. Truly letting the outdoors in creates a yin/yang for balance in your home during the day and at night. Seeing clearly means exactly that: You need to see things the way they are to deal with them.

Put out a Bowl of Rice: Many of my clients from different cultures and beliefs put out a bowl of food for the year; most use Rice as it grows in Abundance and is used for such special events such as Weddings and Blessings. It signifies you will have more than enough of everything you need for the year!

Burn a candle on the Eve as close to Midnight as possible. Think of ALL your Intentions and what you want to Create for the New Year and Infuse your Energy into those thoughts. Whoever thought of this for Birthdays must have known something about Feng Shui!

Finally, open your Front Door (The Mouth of CHI where ALL good Energy enters) and some windows just after midnight or early the next morning. I KNOW it's cold but you're allowing the New Energy to flow in at the most Auspicious Times. It sweeps through the house and intensifies everything you have done to ensure your BEST possible year EVER!

That's it; nothing really hard or difficult and very little to purchase but you have sent plenty of good intentions out there and they are sure to come back to you. Remember that Feng Shui is many things but it is also a LIFESTYLE. It is the way you choose to live and what you send out. It's one of the key issues in Feng Shui and almost never mentioned. Live a good life.

If You Grew up in Levittown New York............

There are so many sites on Facebook for those of us that grew up in Levittown Long Island, New York. As a matter of fact my most popular blog EVER (judging from the amount of emails I received) were about Growing up Levittown, named after one of the sites on Facebook. Real Estate Blog - Growing Up Levittown New York: The Way it WAS ...

I'm not the only one that feels this way about this magical childhood we had. To date I have not heard or read even ONE comment from anyone that didn't grow up there and not realize until our childhoods were gone, just how special they really were.

Levittown New York was nothing but potato fields. It was also a vision by William Levitt and his sons to create a true Community. He had GI's who were returning from the Military in mind and he thought about the children that would soon be arriving. He wanted to build not just a place for returning Military men to retire but build it with all the things you would want for your family.

If you grew up in Levittown NY, there are some places and things you will never forget: The Village Greens (Billy Joel remembers these fondly). You will remember TSS and Mays stores, the Candy Store and The Family Lounge. There was also Putt-Putt, Carvel, Quong Ming and Jolly Rogers (also known as "Happy Land)." Many of us lived at the Local Pools in the summer (mine was on Slate Lane).

Zorns was a popular spot for chicken and Dominicos for Pizza. Cherrywood Shopping Center was just a stone's throw away. All American was a popular dining spot. The Wantagh Movie Theatre and the Levittown Movie Theatres always had great movies playing and when you wanted Ice Cream, you went to Jahn's. They had every conceivable ice cream combination including "The Kitchen Sink" and if you went on your birthday, it was on the house.

The Roller Rink was right next door. Teen Center in the High Schools were open on Friday nights to keep us out of trouble. Some of us ventured, later on to a place called Cloud 9 in Farmingdale New York. We had teen centers with dancing and soft drinks, no alcohol served. And we had a blast!

I recently ran across a newly erected sign that declares the importance of Levittown as a Community. A place that is still physically there but where the Community aspect has long gone; Long gone except for those of us that grew up there and loved every second of it!

Vino Week in New York City 2010: Don't Miss Italy!

I love different events all over Manhattan New York. I head of this one late but in case there are any "late night" readers, you might very well enjoy THIS SECOND TIME NYC EVENT.

Billed as "The Biggest Itailaian Wine Event" tp be held outside of Italy, it focuses on the best tasing wines from many different regions all over Italy. Italian Wines at their finest are showcased as wine tasters and seminars in either Wine Only Events or Wine and Dinner Events.

I would love dinner with my wine so I'm highlighting some of the wonderful Restaurants that are participating in this incredible 'Vino Event." This Sunday is full of wonderful events! Super Bowl Sunday is here and is a time for friends and family to gather together, eat some wings and have a few drinks..they should just make it an official holiday. Are you ready?! It's that time of year again to go swimming with the Long Beach Long Island NY with the Polar Bear Club. All you need is a bathing suit and and a mind that has gone crazy.

Having the Polar Bear Club Swim on Superbowl Sunday is a special event. The New York Polar Bear Club was started by Kevin McCarthy and Pete Meyers, who sparked the idea to go swimming in frigid water. Today this is a fundraiser event that contributes to the Make A Wish Foundation.

The story goes, before Kevin and Pete watched the 1998 Superbowl game, they jumped into the Atlantic ocean for a quick dip. The following year they asked others to join them and use the money as a fundraiser for The Make a Wish Foundation.

People came. More and more every year and last year they broke a record in the amount of Attendees along the beautiful beaches of Long Beach NY. This year my son Adam Schumacher will again participate. Adam was also instrumental in another project we worked on together, Feng Shui for the Jones Manor in Bayville New York. Laura Cerrano, a Manhattan New York Feng Shui consultant will be in attendance.....and if she's VERY brave, take a "dip" herself!

The Long Beach Polar Bear Swim is very special in that it makes wishes possible for other children living with life-threatening diseases. The Chinese New Year 2010-Simple Ways to Ensure Success!

Part One of Feng Shui for The Chinese New Year 2010 by Feng Shui Long Island NY Consultant

There is an intensity of Energy in the Chinese New Year that is almost unmatched in other Celebrations! Chinese and other Cultures consider this date as New Beginnings and they want to start off with the BEST possible Intentions to have a Year filled with Blessings and Abundance in ALL areas of their lives.

This year the Chinese New Year falls on February 14^th....St. Valentine's Day. From many standpoints, this New Year of the Tiger is said to represent some difficult obstacles for many of us. As a New York Feng Shui Consultant, I personally do NOT follow these predictions.....I CREATE the year I want to have.

So can you! Countless people from ALL walks of life spend countless hours, days and weeks formulating Marketing Plans for the New Year yet they won't try a few simple, inexpensive and easy FENG SHUI TIPS? Add some Feng Shui to YOUR marketing plans and watch what happens : )

The FIRST rule of Good Feng Shui: Clutter of course. Remember: If you don't Use it, Need it or Love it, get rid of it! You will lighten up your space to allow new, fresh and beneficial Energy to enter. A reminder about Clutter: Everything that is downstairs in your basement is coming up to your living space....Energy RISES.

Anything that is stored in your attic is (quite literally) hanging over your heads. Do you really NEED all those things? Check under your bed while you're at it: Energy needs to flow around you while you sleep to truly rest and restore for the next day.

Clean. Dust away the cobwebs from your home and office spaces...and dust off your mind. Positive thinking never hurt anyone. Turn something around in your mind until you can find the POSITIVE-and keep it there. Like attracts Like. We get back what we send out. Send out the best.

Clear out your home with a Space Clearing. You can use Native American Sage or clear by Sound with the ringing of bells....Do everything with INTENTION on what you'd like to attract this year. Space Clearings should ONLY be done during the day, when the sun is at its highest point---between 11:00 am to 1:00 if possible. Never at night. Make sure you address the corners where Energy can get ‘stuck' or linger.

Make an extra payment on something. Pay off whatever credit cards or other bills if possible. The extra amount is not as important as the idea that you are creating a Debt Free year and starting it off with as little debt as possible.

Have you checked your refrigerator and pantry? Get RID of old food and restock to start your New Year with Abundance. BUY SOME COLORFUL FRESH FRUIT as another sign of abundance and place it on your kitchen or dining room table. With Intention.

Treat yourself kindly. Take some time out to do something special for yourself. When we treat ourselves well, it is said others will treat us well, too! Maybe it's a manicure or that special outfit you've been wanting; maybe it's just taking home a movie you have wanted to see. YOU are Special....treat yourself that way.

During a recent Feng Shui Consultation for a New York City Client in a new Apartment in Greenwich Village, Laura Cerrano captured one of the TRUE "experiences" of the Underground in New York City. This is Penn Station and there are often bands or single people that play music or put on other activities in this particular spot. Although a bit tired after her New York Feng Shui Apartment Consultation, she stopped to enjoy this band. They are called Yas....and this is her FIRST video.

The Gentleman you see dancing is elderly but he sure has the "moves." Does anyone wonder just why we LOVE New York City?? Watch this guy go................:)

Internet STALKING.....I'm being Followed Wherever I Go!

Internet STALKING.....I'm Being FOLLOWED Wherever I Go! A RANT...

Be CAREFUL who you do business with! I was recently contacted by a Company that "specializes" in SEO and getting ‘Your Name to the Top'. They are a Sponsored Search Company that also has ANOTHER SPECIALTY: For only a "small" (LARGE) per month they will pull blogs and articles from all over the Internet that relate to your site.

They said all the major Search Engines such as Google and Yahoo endorse it. It adds "fresh, new content" to YOUR site and pulls you up higher in the ranks. When I specifically asked about if this "service" credits the ORGINAL AUTHOR I heard hesitation.

Finally the answer she gave me was "sometimes." I wondered aloud if in NOT crediting the Original Author wasn't that illegal?....In fact, isn't it called Plagiarism? The phone call ended abruptly by her when I turned her down on her ‘generous' offer to help me climb to the top.

Well, someone else didn't! I just signed on hoping for a peaceful day and saw my Blog Contents coming up. I'm usually thrilled as I believe it's either a re-blog or at least someone who gives me credit for MY work.. NOT THIS TIME. I was now placed under a Community called "FXeng XShui TiXs" and while there noticed that this person had other accounts as well.

This leads directly to this person's website. Did I mention it is another New York City Feng Shui Consultant? Did I mention that just last night I had to email an Activerain member to please remove LINKS left by this person in her Feng Shui Posts in Activerain? ADDING LINKS in the Comment Section of Activetain GOES AGAINST THEIR GUIDELINES.

Whenever I sign onto a new service, write an article for a company such as Selfgrowth, Ezines for some of my other favorite places (which I am NOT naming because they will be all over them in a New York Minute), an alert comes up for this person shortly thereafter. I am truly being STALKED all over the Internet! Apparently by another Feng Shui Consultant in New York too lazy to write their own material or work on Organic Searches.

How's THIS for a novel idea: Write your OWN material, use your OWN pictures and stop following me to every single site I sign onto and write for? Especially if you're another NEW YORK FENG SHUI CONSULTANT..........

Here's a partial content of the Email I received from this Company:

"We are currently experiencing very solid results for our clients with our automated Search Engine Optimization product called XXXX." and "It automatically pulls in information specific to your Business through RSS Feeds using your most relevant keywords."

"Our SEO-BLOG XXX is an automated website search engine optimization program. It automatically pulls in information specific to your business through RSS Feeds using your most relevant keywords.'

Please note: The "information" they are referring to are OUR works...OUR articles and blogs! They go on to claim both Google and Yahoo endorse this!

Here's the thing about Feng Shui (and in life) that some people just don't understand:

When you do the wrong thing, it comes back to you. When you do the wrong thing in something as spiritual as Feng Shui, it comes back to you DOUBLE. It's just a Universal Law.

*Disclaimer: This is Public as I am hoping this person will stop Stalking me and just "Do the Right Thing." Please ALSO note that most New York Feng Shui Consultants do NOT do this! This is a specific case and a specific person. And the very next time I see MY words on the Internet without credit, I finally have a lawyer ready to go.

There are Just Some Activerainers I will NEVER Unsubscribe to!

When I was recently looking at my list of people who I've subscribed to that haven't posted on Activerain in so long, it made me terribly sad. While I know reasons why some of them left, I am not at all sure why others did.

I always wish they will come back. When I first started on Activerain we "only" had a "small" Community of 6,000 members. I was able to get back to my subscribers and had enough time to read some of the people on here that I love so much.

I'm sure you all have your own favorites that have left. Precious people that you'd love to see return to the Rain. My hope with this post is that you'll add your own favorites and maybe, just MAYBE if we're really fortunate, they will have a Google Alert up.

Perhaps they will stop by. At the very least I do hope they know just how much they are missed.

The lovely Long Island town of Great Neck is located on the North Shore of Long Island NY in Nassau County. I think of Great Neck as an "exotic" little town with a bustling Main Street and even by Long Island standards, it's an expensive place to live.

Both Feng Shui Long Island and Feng Shui Manhattan frequently get called to consult on a home or business located in the affluent town of Great Neck. It's ideal for many residents for the feeling of Long Island as it's located close to the water while being only a very short train ride away from New York City.

Great Neck offers a variety of homes from Apartments to lovely Condos and very affluent homes. Last fall Laura Cerrano and I did a Feng Shui Consultation there for a lovely home. Our client was a businessman who was fortunate enough to not only live in Great Neck but to have his business there as well.

When a potential client calls for a Feng Shui Consultation over Wealth issues, they often want a Home and Business Consultation done. While we do make that an option, we will often suggest they start with Feng Shui for their Home. In Feng Shui we believe your Home SUPPORTS your business.

For reasons of privacy, we are only showing a side view of our client's home. He was in the process of putting in a compost pile to do his part to "Go Green." We are often asked in Feng Shui for the best placement for this and, in our own personal opinion, we want to keep it out of the WEALTH area which is the back Left-Hand corner of the property.

We often suggest moving it up. As much as we want to help, there is no "perfect" area for Compost. It is considered "Dead" Energy but we DO want to keep it away from Wealth and Relationship areas. Our client was able to relate his loss of income from his formerly prospering business in Great Neck NY to the time he began his compost.

This photo shows the back Left Hand corner of his yard where it used to be and the new placement of where it was relocated to. His business began to pick up again almost immediately.

Side Year: Compost was in the back and being moved to the squared off section. Recommendations for the Wealth Area for this Great Neck home included a plants that stay green all year, a Wind Chime and using the Accent Color for Wealth which is Purple.

The Exterior of your space should be given as much consideration during a Feng Shui consultation as the Interior. Feng Shui is NOT "just" furniture placement; it is a lifestyle and it's Energy!

Warding Off the Evil Eye on Long Island NY: A Feng Shui Long Island Perspective

As a Feng Shui Consultant on Long Island New York, I am often asked about another belief many of my clients have: The EVIL Eye. This subject has come up so often that I've written about it twice before: New York Feng Shui and The EVIL Eye by Feng Shui NY Consultant Carole Provenzale

Actually, if you read the last comment on this post it is from a woman named Regina. She swears she has been afflicted by the Evil Eye for many years; she goes on to write that at one time someone was able to remove it but it came back. It's a very sad comment.

This Feng Shui Client created Artwork for those who believed they were afflicted by the Evil Eye or didn't want to have a curse put on them. He was from the Middle East and his Artwork was very popular over there because of such a strong belief in this horrendous curse.

With the ever growing population here on Long Island from out of the Country, I've recently noticed that items to ward off the Evil Eye are becoming popular. On a recent trip to our local mall, Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City NY, we happened to spot Jewelry and other items made specifically for this affliction.

Everything from Belts to lavish Necklaces and Bracelets.

It is said the Evil Eye can be placed on you either consciously or unconsciously just by someone looking at you with envy for something you have (or they perceive you have). In Feng Shui we often use Peacock Feathers in our Space Clearings as the Eye of the Peacock is said to provide Protection.

Whatever your belief, symbols to ward off the Evil Eye ARE becoming more popular. Here are some of the items we found in a kiosk in Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City - Long Island - New York.

I remember....most of it, anyway. Bob Dylan except for his early days and hearing (but being too young to go) to Greenwich Village in New York City. It is said Cafe Wha gave it's start to some of the BEST performers of their time: Bob Dylan and Janis Jopin among them.

Moma--- Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York has a display that took me back in time.

This Feng Shui Consultant in New York City loves BALANCE...and COLOR. The Bottom picture certainly shows both!

I love the ARTWORK and the COLORS.

I have Peter Max somewhere. Not the REAL Peter by one of his Photos that is hanging in MOMA in New York City! Talk about Genius.....his original POSTERS are going for $1500 and up :) My favorite is LOVE - of course!

Feng Shui in Seaford - Long Island - New York: The Necessity of Change by Feng Shui Long Island

Seaford Long Island New York is a lovely little town on the South Shore. Its surrounding towns include Massapequa NY and Wantagh Long Island which includes our beautiful Jones Beach.

Part of the Seaford NY homes rest on lovely little canals while some are further North. It was in this Long Island town of Seaford that I had written about this Long Island Feng Shui Consultation for their home.

They were facing the threat of foreclosure and called Feng Shui Long Island & NY in for a full Feng Shui Consultation. It's sad to see lovely Long Island facing foreclosures and the last thing I thought I would see here on this beautiful Island. But they hit and hit hard and sadly, continue to hit. This Long Island couple wanted two things from their Feng Shui Consultation. They wanted desperately to save their home and my Feng Shui client wanted better health so he could return to work. He was a prominent and proud man who would not accept any offers of help but he believes in Feng Shui.

I had heard from this couple on and off for a while and then the calls stopped coming. I feared the worst, that they had lost their lovely home in Seaford to a foreclosure. Finally, I picked up the phone to call. His wife answered and was delighted to hear from me. They are working now with a loan modification and her husband had healed AND returned to the job they were holding open for him!

I couldn't have been happier to hear such wonderful news. "Feng Shui Works" my client said although she mentioned there was still some tight budgeting ahead. The Feng Shui Cures and suggestions I gave my client were not expensive OR difficult at all. They were all very simple and low to no cost things to change the Energy in their Seaford NY Home and could have easily been accomplished in a week.

Curiously, I asked her if she'd made all the recommendations. She told me no, she hadn't---she said she'd done about HALF of the Feng Shui Advice we had given her. She didn't give me a reason but I couldn't help but wonder: What would have happened in their lives if they had taken ALL the suggestions?

If your Feng Shui Consultant in New York (or any place else) makes suggestions, they will always give you a reason behind it. They should fit with your Décor and your budget and you should make ALL the recommendations. Working with HALF of Feng Shui suggestions will only get you half of what you are seeking to achieve.

It's been too long to re-advise my Seaford Long Island Feng Shui Client. How I would have LOVED to hear the results if they'd taken all the suggestions!

When I started the Group Activerain Link Love Activerain Link Love it was just after the beginning of the New Year. While I know we have more then enough groups on Activerain, I thought one that focused on other members would not only give us something additional to write about but it would help "pay it forward."

So, where's the LOVE??

This Group has been off to a slow start. Tonight, as I was reading some blogs I came across more 'cut and pastes' then I care to mention (and no, I did not report them). I came across one person's blog who had exactly 50 words each, slightly rearranged from the original source and not ONE of them indicated what they actually did for work. I had to go through two PAGES of blogs before there was a post indicating anything about their profession.

For those of you who are members, THANK YOU for joining. And please tell a FRIEND. This group was meant to help others in the Rain that deserved a "nod" or a welcome or just because they're good writers and we enjoy their work. And maybe (just maybe) it would give those 'cut and paste' people something to write about so they don't have to use other people's work.

Here are two people I'd like to point out that you may have overlooked or just not been able to get to. One is Kate Case Kates Home Staging and Redesign Blog who knows well a subject near and dear to my heart, Feng Shui. I think she's terrific and has some wonderful ideas on what to do to help you with Feng Shui Principles and ideas. 600 BLOGS on ACTIVERAIN?? And WHY Did I Do THAT??

When I hit the submit button on this post, I will just have written my 600^th blog. What in the WORLD was I thinking? All that time and energy and what did I get for it?

I went back to look over some of those old blogs where I had no pictures and forgot to hit spell check. I found my diary over the last three years. What I had gone through, things I have been able to share with my Activerain members, Success Stories I had almost forgotten; I remembered friends who no longer post and trying to learn as much as I could to help improve my ‘Google Juice.'

I thought, too, of all the opportunities I've had because of Activerain. I remembered how people encouraged me when things were very difficult and people that were thrilled to hear of my successes. It's all there...and I'm still here. IF YOU'RE A "NEWBIE" DON'T GIVE UP!!

If it were not for Brad Anderson and his very informative "Hyper-Local" Posts giving us specific information (which I studied then and continue to) I would not STILL be at the top of Google under such searches as "New York Feng Shui Business" or "Feng Shui a New York Corporation."

It's Restaurant Week in New York City: Feng Shui Long Island's Favorite Pics

Restaurant Week in New York City! Who doesn't love this time of year? It's a chance to try a new place that you've wanted to eat in or return to an old favorite of yours. This year Restaurant Week in NYC is being held January 25^th through February 7^th but don't wait-many are taking reservations right NOW.

As a Feng Shui Consultant I am often in New York City but my fascination with this City goes back many years and I've been fortunate, through the years, to eat at most of the BEST places in New York City. I've been to almost ALL of the restaurants I've selected with the exception of two I've heard rave reviews on and would really love to try.

Sadly, some of my favorites are NOT participating this year : ( Perhaps the economy isn't quite as bad as we thought. In any case, it gives me the opportunity to try a restaurant people are talking about: Butter Restaurant From what I've heard about this place, it's GOT to be good!

There is a price fixe menu and some restrictions apply at different restaurants in Manhattan. Lunch is set at $24.07 per person and dinner is $35.00. Here's a list of the others and a few notes to go along with them:

Atlantic Grill (menu)

Water's Edge Restaurant (menu)

The Russian Tea Room (menu) This was remodeled several years ago but they left all the glitz and glamour. I have eaten there several times through the years and was never disappointed in their food or their service.

Redeye Grill (menu) As much as I enjoy this place, there is always a wait. Sometimes a very LONG wait. Hopefully with reservations that won't happen.

Brasserie 8 1/2 My favorite of the French Restaurants in New York City (and there are plenty of them!).

'21' Club (menu) aka The Jockey Club. An interesting RUMOR about this place is that it's one of the few clubs that thrived during the great depression. It's said to have an underground "wine" area where the rich and very famous were able to indulge in their pleasures during the prohibition. It's a New York City Landmark, having been around for 80 years.

The Oak Room at The Plaza Well, it's not "THE" Oak Room, it's the "new" Oak Room. I have to say I miss the original. This place is smaller and the menu is completely different. I was disappointed when I ate there. Sunday Brunch, however pricey, is still well worth it.

One if by Land, Two if by Sea This place too has been around forever. You KNOW that means it's good. It's also reported to be haunted which could make for an interesting evening!

Le Cirque I had eaten at this place in it's old location although it still has good Zagat stars. I did love the food. However, since I wasn't "someone" we were delegated to the far reaches of the restaurant. The food was good...the service was stuffy. VERY Stuffy. Still, I'm putting it down because you will enjoy their new menu and never know who you'll ‘rub elbows with' in here : )

Il Cantinori Restaurant Good food, friendly people. Large dishes so there's always enough to take home.

Central Park Boathouse My absolute FAVORITE in the summer (especially if you're fortunate enough to get a table right on the lake). The food and drinks here are terrific. Just inside of Central Park, I have always found this place to be a delight!

And if you're not on a budget? If money is no object and you can eat anywhere you want, what would I suggest? The Rainbow Room will always be my all time favorite. I'd go there in a New York Minute! Spectacular views, an extensive menu, a revolving dance floor and a full orchestra. It's absolutely enchanting!

Can't afford that and happen to be in the heart of Times Square? Try Bubba Gumps Shrimp House. I have eaten there on more then one occasion and expected the old "tourist trap" type of place. It is all that but it is also GREAT Shrimp! To get to the restaurant you climb 7 or 8 staircases so when you're seated, you're actually looking down right into Times Square. It's a Neon Night for sure!

DRAINS in Feng Shui: Don't let YOUR Money go Down the Drain!

DRAINS IN FENG SHUI: What one Feng Shui New York Consultant thinks:

Laura and I have been working on a new Feng Shui building on Long Island New York that has been a bit...DRAINING. While initially scheduled to open in 2008, Long Island New York winters can stop construction in it's tracks. So can waiting for permits and all the other issues associated with a new construction.

Feng Shui in New Construction along with Interior Decorating can bring up some issues. The principles of both don't always agree. One example of this is in Interior Design placing objects in sets of threes are recommended and they are different sizes.

In Feng Shui we think of TWOS. Pairs of objects to symbolize and enhance relationships. They should also be of the same size so there are no "power play" or control issues. Another thing Feng Shui Consultants and Interior Designers differ on is the placement of Mirrors.

Feng Shui is rather strict in it's placement of Mirrors. Whatever they reflect, they double the Energy of the object. It is wonderful to have a mirror reflect the outside to pull in natural light and nature for example. However, it is considered BAD Feng Shui to have a mirror facing a DRAIN.

There is nothing complicated about this issue to me. In Feng Shui, the meaning of drains is exactly what it sounds like. Drains can drain our Wealth, Health, Relationships or Career. It's a popular saying whether you believe in Feng Shui or not: "There goes MORE money down the drain" or something to that effect.

On a Long Island Feng Shui Consultation in Holtsville NY last week, I saw the PERFECT drain cover. I couldn't believe my EYES. My wise Holtsville New York Feng Shui client had completed a renovation in 2005 and aware of the Feng Shui implications of Drains, she had chosen this type of drain cover for ALL of her bathrooms which allowed her to put in whatever size mirrors she wanted.

How I WISH I had seen this before the Interior Designer disagreed so strenuously over this issue. And a HUGE thank you to my wonderful Long Island New York Feng Shui Client for allowing me to show it...you might want to consider it when YOU undergo renovations.

So did I : ( I couldn't go and I couldn't be sorrier that I missed it. Fortunately, my daughter Laura Cerrano didn't. She got to go learn and PLAY and she is STILL talking about it. She put up a blog but could not post her photos of Raincamp 2010 from her new computer....so here they are.

For a few years she has wondered what my facination with Activerain was/is. Now she's experienced it first hand---and she's hooked! WARNING: Attending one Activerain Camp won't be enough. You'll want more...and then a little more.

Memorial to Tavern on the Green, Central Park New York by Feng Shui New York Consultant Carole Provenzale

Another New York City Landmark Institution is gone. I couldn't be sorrier to see it go. It was our own Grace Safrin Indiana : Porter County : Valparaiso
who emailed me to let me know that Tavern on the Green would be closing. I hadn't heard and knew that Grace and Jeff had some very special memories of their time in New York City, Central Park and Tavern on the Green; it was the spectacular place that Jeff had chosen to propose to her!

Tavern on the Green in New York City had been around for 75 years and was probably one of the Cities best known restaurants. Located right in Central Park at West 67^th Street and Central Park West, it had spectacular views of Central Park if you were seated outside and incredible artwork and amazing glass images inside.

Well known for its Tiffany Chandeliers and somewhat "odd" but colorful objects, this historic landmark had become 8 million dollars in debt in just the last few years. It closed its doors for good on New Years Eve, Dec. 31^st 2009. Everything from its extensive collections of Stained Glass to all the pots and pans that have served many actors and other lovers of this restaurant are now gone, having been put on the Auction block.

When The Plaza was going co-op, I happened to be in New York City that day on a Feng Shui Consultation. I was heading up to Central Park when I saw a line...and went to investigate. It was the last day they were selling off their beautiful, extensive items from the furniture to The infamous Oak Room dishes and I was able to purchase one of the few remaining items....an old chafing dish. I was delighted to have what I considered to be a "small piece of history."

The Grand Chandelier that graced the entrance of Tavern on the Green went for only $15,000 and the still operating Vintage Wurlitzer Jukebox only $7.000. Most of the items auctioned went well below their estimates. The Name of TAVERN ON THE GREEN is estimated to cost 19 million dollars and is currently in dispute to see if the new owners have the right to take the name as well.

Many of us will miss this spectacular New York City Landmark restaurant. You can catch glimpses of it in many movies filmed there including "It's My Turn" with Michael Douglas and Jill Clayburgh. This New York City Icon will surely be missed.

The Feng Shui of a Long Island Business

Feng Shui for Businesses are very popular on Long Island New York. Feng Shui Consultations for Businesses and Corporations are also very popular in New York City.

People with an interest in Feng Shui can often see that they want to start off their new home or business in the BEST possible way. Most people by now have heard of Feng Shui and for those that have a knowledge of it, it strikes a nerve because they believe (as I do) that Feng Shui makes perfect sense.

This Feng Shui Client lived out East on Long Island in St. James NY. He had called because he'd picked up a book on Feng Shui Predictions for his particular sign and what's likely to be in store for him in the New Year. I'm sad to say that this particular book had NO positive information for him at ALL.

This Feng Shui Book predicted a terrible year for anyone born under that sign. Financial hardships and serious Health issues were just a few of the predictions he'd read for the New Year. It apparently didn't explain the Three Lucks of Feng Shui and that he had total control over many of the issues that it predicted were likely to come up. I try to dispel fear and negativity in Feng Shui. An Art Form that was meant to Inspire and help you attract wonderful riches in ALL forms into your life has become what I long ago termed "The Feng Shui Fear Factor." Feng Shui Consultants and the FEAR FACTOR by Feng Shui Long Island I explained to him that these predictions are GENERAL and that he had control over what he could change.

Laura and I made suggestions for his home and explained the reasons why. Making changes without INTENTION would account for about 20 % of what we want to create. Your Feng Shui Consultant should always give you a reason WHY they are asking you to make the changes and see if you are comfortable with the Design as well.

In Feng Shui, there are MANY ways to address changes. What one person on Long Island or New York City might like, another may not feel fits into the Interior Design of their space. Feng Shui Consultants should also try to work with what you already own so there is little to no additional costs after the Feng Shui Consultation. Placement changes with a REASON or just unblocking Energy Channels to open up a space can have a huge impact on its occupants. The Feng Shui of a Long Island New York Business.

This Business is located on Long Island NY and is one of a franchise. My client had just purchased it and after hearing some positive news from Feng Shui Long Island's home predictions, he asked if we could visit his business. He was willing to spend some money and some of the suggestions we made were to warm it up and paint the paneling. Since customers would likely have a wait for their automobiles, we wanted a comfortable environment where people were not unhappy about waiting. He definitely needed to remove the mirror Mirror, Mirror----WAIT! Don't Hang Me Yet!! by Feng Shui Long Island and add artwork including scenes of water for a calm effect.

On the table we decided to offer fresh coffee and many changes for the office including color selections, furniture placement, artwork and items from home to connect your home to your business. Upon his return to his home, I'm happy to report my Long Island Feng Shui Client promptly threw the book where it belonged.....into the garbage!

Fashion, Feng Shui and a New York City Business

In the heart of New York City, the once booming and bustling Garment District seems almost extinct now. Located between 34^th and 42^nd Street in Midtown Manhattan, I remember going into NYC and having to dodge all the garments as the workers wizzed by with the latest fashions on long metal garment racks.

YOU dodged them....you had a lot more to lose! As the 70's wore on, I saw less and less of it. We were losing our Garment District in New York City and some of our designers as well to other parts of the world where manufacturing was much less expensive.

Laura & I was delighted to receive a referral in Midtown Manhattan for the Feng Shui of a fashion business. Though I've worked with both Fashion and Swimwear before, it had not been in the heart of our Garment District in New York City.

My client was lovely and had a large walk up space where magnificent beading and crystals were hand sewn onto top designer garments. They were all sent overseas for this extensive work and my client wanted a complete make-over of her space from a Feng Shui Design. It was an absolute delight and took many hours to choose the vibrant new colors, a different set-up with much better organization and a more comfortable lay-out that her employees would love.

As my Feng Shui Client works with some of the Top Designers, she asked that her space be confidential. In the event you have not yet seen what is dubbed as "The Fashion Walk of Fame" I'd managed to snap just a few pictures on my way back to Penn Station. The tributes here include Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Liz Clairborne, Oscar de la Renta and once of my all time Favorites of Fashion, Betsey Johnson.

I don't know of another Fashion Designer who adds so much FUN to her clothes! Besides, who else can do a handstand at 60+ years of age?

In Feng Shui when we think of our clothing many of us also keep in mind Feng Shui Principles. Yes, you can dress according to the principles of Feng Shui according to Billy Yamaguchi, who took this art and turned it into a science. As a hairdresser and make up artist in a former life I took particular interest in his Book What is Feng Shui Beauty?

For a while I consulted with clients who often requested a Feng Shui Beauty Consultation after their Feng Shui Consultation of their home or business by adding the elements of colors, fashion types, hairstyles and make-up for a true top to bottom Feng Shui make-over.

This New York City Icon is now used in many commercials. It's a testament of the Garment Industry in New York City and the fabulous Fashion Designers who still call this area 'home.'

The Feng Shui of a Long Island NY Home

Doing a Feng Shui Consultation on a Long Island NY home, we never know exactly what we're going to find. Long Island has homes that range in price from about $200,000 to multi-million dollar mansions in the Hamptons or the North Shore of Long Island.

One of our "toney" areas of Long Island NY homes is in Oyster Bay New York. It is on the North Shore of Long Island and it's where Teddy Roosevelt had his very own home built, calling it "The OTHER White House."

I do encourage my Long Island and New York City Feng Shui Clients to give Feng Shui a TRY but the advice I can give is only general.....there are so many levels of Feng Shui that each Feng Shui Consultation needs to be personalized specifically for each client.

There are also MANY books on Feng Shui. Prior to calling me for a Feng Shui Consultation in the lovely town of Oyster Bay NY for his home, this particular client chose a book about Feng Shui and decided to try it on his own.

Here's what we saw glaring at us from the street:

Wow...that's one BIG "Feng Shui" Mirror!

Mirrors in Feng Shui are sometimes referred to as the "Aspirin" of Feng Shui. We use them with different Intentions and for many different reasons but we are careful of their placement. I had to wonder if he was cleaning the mirror or if he had used it as a Feng Shui CURE.

Sure enough, it was a Feng Shui Cure he'd put in place for his Long Island NY home. He'd remembered reading in a book that (among other things) if you live on a busy road, you should put a Mirror outside of your home to help deflect and push away the energy of the cars whizzing by.

When Feng Shui Consultants speak of placing a mirror outside, it is usually a Bagua Mirror placed over the FRONT DOOR. We can use this small mirror as a Feng Shui Cure in a Long Island NY home to help deflect a busy road. Somewhere along the way, either my client misinterpreted the information from the book or the book gave out poor information.

The "Aspirin" of Feng Shui: Mirrors

Be careful with what you READ! .... I am always saddened when a Feng Shui Client has read a book with incorrect Feng Shui information in it and sadly, they ARE out there! The placement of this huge mirror in front of this lovely North Shore Oyster Bay home may not only be "pushing away" the Energy of the cars but ALL Energy!

Please remember that trying Feng Shui Cures in a home or business CAN help you but do not take the place of having a full, customized Feng Shui Consultation by a qualified and experienced Feng Shui Professional.

The Feng Shui of a New York City Apartment

Applying Feng Shui to Apartments in New York City at times can be challenging. This apartment from a Feng Shui Client was located in Midtown Manhattan NY and the new owner was just moving in.

New York City has apartments that come in all sizes and shapes. We often find what we think of as "missing pieces" of the Bagua (which we can correct) or apartments that may seem a bit off balance.

This apartment was lovely but it had a long sweep of energy from the front to the back by the long hallway. In Feng Shui, you should feel "graced" into your space and not feel the energy moving so rapidly to the other end.

Some suggestions for this Feng Shui Client would be the use of Crystals which help to slow down and diffuse Energy. Certainly Artwork on the walls which would deflect the eye from the sweep would be beneficial as well as color choices if they should decide to paint.

Feng Shui in a New York City Apartment, Manhattan NY

Lighting in this space can also be directional. Bringing in these objects and filling this NYC apartment with things the clients love will help to deflect any issues-and because they were just moving in, starting off fresh with a Space Clearing to rid it of any Predecessor Energy is a wonderful Feng Shui way to ensure many happy, healthy and prosperous years here.
