As seems to be the case in just about every situation, in the midst of the trials and tribulations we are experiencing in the housing market and economy in general there are gleams of light. Working to further hone some positive perspective skills, I bravely decided I'd wade through today's newspaper, filters to stop negative input firmly in place. Skipping over anything that appeared to be unsubstantiated "hype" and "doom", I moseyed on over to the topics that interest me, like the many outstanding community efforts my fellow Southern Oregonians are making. There was an article last week in our local paper, the Mail Tribune, that talked about Earth Advantage and Countrywide Home Loans joining together to offer a reduced interest rate to their homeowners who wish to build their homes to Energy Star®, Earth Advantage® or L.E.E.D. standards, with their project being certified by an independent third party, Earth Advantage®. I've contacted my Countrywide Rep to verify the specifics of this agreement, and to see if they will be making this program available to us on their B2B side, but have not yet heard back from them. earth advantage: Oregon Setting Pace at Greenbuild07 in Chicago - 11/09/07 09:12 AM
Wow...that was some announcement made by City Commissioner Dan Salzman this week in Chicago! The Commissioner is proposing an ambitious plan to cut carbon emissions beginning 2010. Carbon fee and inspection requirements proposed would levy taxes on builders meeting the energy efficiency requirements of the Oregon building code, already one of the toughest in the nation, but would reward developers who make buildings that save at least 45 percent more energy than this code requires. Meetings will be held with Portland residents in December 2007 to gain input before the proposal goes before the City Council in January 2008. Nothing like a little
