energy efficient: Home Comfort Hearth of Grants Pass & Phoenix Oregon Is Great! - 10/25/09 07:40 PM

We’ve been investigating replacing our fireplace insert since before the City of Medford Oregon where we live passed an ordinance making it a requirement that fireplace inserts like the one that came with the house we bought in the East Medford Hills in 2004 need to be removed upon sale if they don’t meet the new criteria. Of course, being in compliance with the particulates being released in to the air is important to us. Important, too, is the overall cost of using the wood fireplace insert for our heat source, since our home also has a central heating/AC system. … (4 comments)

energy efficient: More Great Tax Credits for Southern Oregon Homeowners Making Energy Efficient Improvements - 02/25/09 11:12 AM
The recently passed 2009 stimulus packages included some good news for homeowners who have been considering making improvements to their homes to increase their home's energy efficiency. Homeowners who are replacing their windows with those that exceed Energy Star requirements, having a U factor of .30 or better (the lower the number, the better the energy efficiency). Do you think $1,500 would help make this energy efficient improvement to your home in Southern Oregon? Check in to this, because depending on where you are located in Southern Oregon, such as in Ashland, there may be additional credits available to you to help … (0 comments)

energy efficient: Are True Energy Efficient Mortgages Finally On Their Way? - 06/17/08 05:04 PM
Fannie Mae, HUD, and the Veteran's Administration all came forward with various pilot programs in the 1990's to assist homeowners interested in "Going Green". One of the largest stumbling blocks for homeowners has been the maximum dollar amount these secondary marketing sources will allow to be allocated to energy efficiency improvements. The small amount that is allowed to be added to the loan for this purpose added to the stiff documentation requirements to prove the actual energy cost savings these improvements will generate have made the current version of Energy Efficient Mortgages useless to the homeowners that are looking for them. … (6 comments)

energy efficient: Oregon Energy Trust Sets New Guidelines for 2008 - 02/21/08 10:42 PM

"Going Green" has been pretty painless for us so far, although long journeys in the hybrid are sometimes a challenge. We're happy knowing the products we have been replacing meet the 2008 Oregon Residential Energy Standards, even though we already changed out our windows and doors in 2005-2006 long before these new standards came to be. We have used all tax credits and rebates we are eligible for, helping offset some of the costs associated with these changes. With our winter heating bills 40% lower than they were before making the changes, the air flow we have in the house spring/summer/fall, … (5 comments)

energy efficient: More Affordable Housing for Rogue Valley - 01/23/08 11:54 PM
Rogue Valley Community Development Corporation (RVCDC) held their annual meeting tonight in Ashland, Oregon at the Ashland Community Center across from Lithia Park. Created in 1990 to work with low-to-moderate income people, this non-profit corporation has successfully developed 42 units, and has 14 units under development with the hope of soon pushing that number up to 28. These homes are spread out throughout the Rogue Valley, including homes in Ashland and in Medford. They are well on their way to meeting their mission to serve low-to-moderate income people of Jackson County through community development and self help, offering homeownership opportunities, assisting people … (1 comments)

energy efficient: Going…Going… Gone? – One Week Left For Senate To Pass Energy Bill H.R. 6 - 12/14/07 11:09 AM

Senate Axes Rural Counties Timber Payments and tax breaks for a wide range of clean energy industries from the Energy Bill.
Many States in the South and West are affected by this, by the removal of the Timber Program as well as the removal of the tax incentives for Energy Efficiency.
Here in Jackson and Josephine Counties in Southern Oregon, we've already seen some of the affects, affects such as the layoff of Josephine County police officers and the canceling of needed projects.
In July 2007, all Jackson County libraries were forced to close down when the plug was pulled on the Federal … (2 comments)

energy efficient: Oregon Setting Pace at Greenbuild07 in Chicago - 11/09/07 09:12 AM
Wow...that was some announcement made by City Commissioner Dan Salzman this week in Chicago! The Commissioner is proposing an ambitious plan to cut carbon emissions beginning 2010. Carbon fee and inspection requirements proposed would levy taxes on builders meeting the energy efficiency requirements of the Oregon building code, already one of the toughest in the nation, but would reward developers who make buildings that save at least 45 percent more energy than this code requires.
Meetings will be held with Portland residents in December 2007 to gain input before the proposal goes before the City Council in January 2008.
Nothing like a little … (0 comments)
