Snow Conditions at Tahoe Donner Cross Country

Unfortunately, the snow conditions at Tahoe Donner Cross Country have been really disappointing in the last few weeks.  January was really cold as was February, so holding on to December's incredible snow was possible.  But March was warm, had some rain and only a little snow.  The Tahoe Donner Cross Country area was due to host the amazing SuperTour....but alas, the Cross Country Center is having to close due to such low snow conditionsl  Here is what the Tahoe Donner Association posted today:

Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center: Unfortunately, the Cross Country Center has also had to close due to conditions, and the SuperTour on-snow events have now been moved up to Donner Summit. If the storm in the forecast does bring us enough snow next weekend, we may reopen to host the 30/50km National Championships on the homologated courses. Stay tuned!
The races on April 4, 5, 6 are now at Auburn Ski Club; the Hill Climb remains at Sugar Bowl on April 8, and the 30/50km races have been relocated to Royal Gorge on April 10 and 11.
The Fast and Female Champ Camp for girls ages 8 and up will now be hosted by Auburn Ski Club (register at www.fastandfemale.com). We have some great speakers lined up for parents too. Local nutritionist Betsy Taylor will talk about fueling your young athlete and Missy Price, sports psychologist, will speak to the value of sports in young girls' lives.
Tahoe Donner Cross Country will host a BBQ on Tuesday, April 2 on our deck offering locals and visitors another chance to mingle with the top names in cross country ski racing. Live music, $5 burgers, and $3 beer and wine will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m.
This Friday, April 5, Dr. Andy Pasternak will talk about nutrition and hydration, and then on Sunday, April 7, he will be joined by local coaches to present video analysis of the top racers. Both events are free of charge and will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center.

I am really disappointed for Tahoe Donner Cross Country. Personally as a cross country skiier, I ski at TD all of the time, and I so appreciate what they have done this season to promote the Center.  This was a great opportunity to promote their amazing trails.  But Mother Nature, can't argue with her!  So hopefully there will still be a fantastic opportunity for the athletes at Auburn Ski Club, which is an AWESOME place also to ski and they have also been truly supportive of the youths in the area and the sport!
