Thanx… - 12/31/10 06:47 AM
Thanx…Here it is, the end of another year. Looking back, I have a lot to be thankful for. Thanx to those who hated me,
they made me a stronger person. Thanx to those who loved me,
they made my heart bigger. Thanx to those who were worried about me, they let me know that they cared. Thanx to those who left me,
they made me realize that nothing lasts forever. Thanx to those who entered my life and never left,
they made me know who I am. Special thanks to all my friends,
who supported

Keep Your Nose to the Grindstone... - 12/30/10 08:44 AM
Keep Your Nose to the Grindstone...Having spent the past month working in, on and giving folks the business, the 31 DOD Challenge is quickly coming to a close. As the year winds to a close, it is but human nature to get lax and let things slide.
While temping, there is still a lot to get accomplished before the New Year starts. I don't know about you, but it seems, the more I do, the more I see that needs to get done. Kinda the proverbial, too much to do and so little time. That being said, I need

31 DOD Challenge ~ Day 29... - 12/29/10 05:27 PM
31 DOD Challenge ~ Day 29...Who sez we can't mix work and fun. Today, in keeping up with the challenge with only two more days to go, I had fun while I worked - nothing wrong with that now is there?I finished setting up the Virtual Machine on the Mac. I had a little time to kill while the Time Machine was mirroring the hard drive, so I took a trip to the Photo Shop with my good friend Craig Rutman. Like, what's there not to love about touring the streets of France and looking at the... well... scenery. The rest

(not so) Wordless Wednesday… - 12/29/10 06:29 AM
(not so) Wordless Wednesday…Wow! Can you believe it?. 2 more days and this year will be history!!! Believe it or not, I'm at a real loss for words...Oh whell, since I have my tang tungled and wrapped around my eye teeth and I cannot see what I am saying, I'll just let the picture do the talking. Parallels ~ Bridging the Gap... - 12/28/10 04:38 PM
Parallels ~ Bridging the Gap...Many folks have entered the 31 DOD challenge to prep for the plethora of anticipated business for 2011. Today, in keeping up with the challenge, I made the decision to install Parallels on my MAC. I know, it is nothing new, but for those not familiar with the program, it allows you to run Windows under the shell of Mac OS-x.For a long time I have been a purist. Not wanting to taint my MAC with MS or MS software; sometimes, push comes to shove and one must hold their nose and insert the disk and so

The End IS Near... - 12/28/10 05:52 AM
The End IS Near...It's been a crazy past few days. We've seen gas prices steadily rise, been hit by major and catastrophic weather disasters and watched in dismay as Sunday Night Football got moved to Tuesday. Peering out of the corner of our eyes, we glance at the calendar and realize, the end is near. The end of the year and the 31 Days of December Challenge that is. Not to mention that our good friend, Craig Rutman, is "Jonny-on-the-spot" to help remind us procrastinators that - well, you know... Gosh! Time sure flies when we are having fun, doesn't it?

Monday Morning Motivator & Some Points to Ponder… - 12/27/10 05:49 AM
Monday Morning Motivator & Some Points to Ponder…We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives... not looking for flaws, but for potential. ~~Ellen Goodman For many, this week will be spent in agonizing contemplation. Dissecting the past year into what ifs or could have beens. Scrutinizing minute details that may or may not have made a difference. The past is the past and can't be changed. It

31 DOD ~ Day After Christmas… - 12/26/10 02:55 PM
31 DOD ~ Day After Christmas…Boy, it sure is easy to fall off the wagon, especially during the holidays. Guilty as charged. Not all was lost though. Yesterday, I download a trial version of a new inspection software that is MAC compatible. I have been wanting to give Microsoft the boot and go totally with Mac; however, my only tie to the PC world was the inspection software. This morning and this afternoon, I have been studying the tutorials and doing some "test" inspections. With some practice and some program support help, hopefully, I will be doing my new reports on

(not so) Speechless Sundae… - 12/26/10 07:31 AM
(not so) Speechless Sundae…Yesterday, middle Tennesseans were treated to a rare "White Christmas". While we did not get hammered like many, it was kinda cool, looking at the delicate white blanket that covered the ground; making yesterday, Christmas, a good day to cop some "Z's" and get OD'd on the "Hallmark" channel. We did get some additional "S" word late yesterday afternoon and into the evening. H-m-m-m-m, kinda enjoyed the down time, I just may dream of another "White Christmas" next year. Milk is not just the only white stuff that does a body good... Complete Home Inspections, Inc.The Guys

Merry Christmas…As Christmas waves its magic wand over this world, remember, there is no ideal Christmas; only the special one you decide to make as a reflection of your values, desires, affections, traditions. Are We Having Fun? - 12/21/10 05:08 PM
Are We Having Fun? Seriously, Are we having fun yet? I ask because sometimes I think that folks in the real estate business take themselves too seriously. I know I used to. I also know it’s often a character defect disguised as something noble, like integrity or being a hard worker. And while I think that there are a lot of folks that could benefit from lightening up a bit, I’m primarily talking about us in the real estate business. Obviously, there are vocations that demand a more serious attitude, say doctors or morticians. Real estate professionals and their related

Make Points - Don't Get Them... - 12/21/10 05:47 AM
Make Points - Don't Get Them...Ah, Christmas. Time to spend with family, friends and others that have impacted or influenced our existence. Christmas, a season to give unselfishly and brighten the lives of others. This holiday season, I challenge one and all ~~~ Pick up the phone and call someone in the rain. No, you won't get any ActiveRain points ~ Zip, Nada, Zilch. I will guarantee you this. You will kindle the fire of friendship, enliven the spirit of someone you have never met and you will make lasting points with the one you called...Complete Home Inspections, Inc.The Guys with

Monday Morning Motivator & Some Points to Ponder... - 12/20/10 06:39 AM
Monday Morning Motivator & Some Points to Ponder...As we struggle with shopping lists, invitations and the anxiety it brings, compounded by December's foul weather, it is good to be reminded that there are people in our lives who are worth this aggravation, and people to whom we are worth the same. ~ Unknown Holidays can be times of love, laughter, joy and giving. But they can also be trying. Bumper-to-bumper Mall traffic, no parking spots, road rage, and rude shoppers portray anything but peace and goodwill toward men. In this, the last week before Christmas, why bother with the madness?

Life Is too Short ~ Have a Little Fun... - 12/19/10 09:56 AM
Life Is too Short ~ Have a Little Fun...My good friend Craig Rutman certainly has the right attitude - Life is way to short, have a little fun.Drawing upon his keen wit, and great photoshopping abilities, The Craigster so masterfully transforms the mundane into isles of laughter and musings. I often wonder how his clients are able to take him seriously, but such is life on the farm... Y'all have a great weekend... (not so) Speechless Sundae... - 12/19/10 07:10 AM
(not so) Speechless Sundae...Looking out the window, I gaze upon the cold, barren landscape. Gone are the colorful gardens, the suffocating green lawns, the warm air filled with the songs of children's laughter and the mocking bird high in the pine.Fixating on the frost ferns etched upon my window, memories of this past years events slowly shuffle through my mind. I eagerly await the awakening of the earth to begin her cycle anew. But for now, she slumbers under her blanket of snow; so deserving of her long winter's nap... Y'all have a great weekend... 31 DOD Challenge ~ The Rest of the Week... - 12/18/10 06:26 AM
31 DOD Challenge ~ The Rest of the Week...Let's face it, owning your your own business isn't as always glamourous as it seems. For many of us, it seems as if there is ALWAYS something to do. But then, there are THOSE like my good friend, who's name I shall not mention, that relish in those kick-back, just hang days of December. Loafing around Craig's pad, recuperating from my recent accident, one gets a chance to see things that they wish that hadn't. Well, at least we know how the not so rich and famous live... Okay, moving on to more

QR Codes ~ Making a Statement... - 12/17/10 05:07 PM
QR Codes ~ Making a Statement...Some time ago I wrote a post about QR Codes coming of age in the real estate world. Since then, there have been several featured posts by many ActiveRain members on the same topic each with a different slants, viewpoints and arguments articulating their pros and cons. Some passed these off as mere folly, pooh-poohing that their is no practical use for them in the real estate business. Folly indeed! I guess their right. Who am I to argue with such foresightedness and intellectual prowess? Nevertheless, there are those who embrace new, cutting edge technology. Maybe

The Devil Is in the Details... - 12/16/10 06:23 PM
The Devil Is in the Details...This past weekend, I made a whirlwind trip to the mountains of North Carolina, to get away from it all for a few days. It was one of those trips where I combined business with pleasure, if you know what I mean.Walking through the Grove Park Inn, in Asheville, one could not help but notice all the gingerbread houses lining the main halls. The week before I arrived, the ribbons had been awarded to the top 10 entries.Gazing upon the wonderful creations, I could not help but marvel at the intricate accessories. The subtle differences that

Photoshop Animation... - 12/16/10 05:59 AM
Photoshop Animation...Those of you who subscribe to Craig Rutman's and my blog, know that we banter and lampoon each other via our photoshopping skills (if that's what you want to call it). Add in a sprikle of keen wit and lots of boredom and you have the perfect recipe to be a photoshop master. Alas, our illustrious Craigster once again falls prey to another one of my bouts of insanity. Thanks Craig for (ahem) volunteering to be the Guinna pig and fall guy for my first attempt at Photoshop animation.Fortunately, it's all for grins and giggles and we are friends.

The Whys Behind the Whats... - 12/15/10 06:46 AM
the Whys Behind the Whats...Almost daily, I scan scores of posts reading the activities fellow ActiveRainers are doing to prepare for the upcoming year. Everyone has their own, carefully choreographed itinerary, meticulously dotting every "I" and crossing every "T".Why? For some, the answer is just as plain as the nose on one's face. Kids, spouse, better home. For others, the answer may need more scrutiny and much introspection. Hence, my activities for days 11-14.Cuddling with a steaming cup of cider with a stick of Cinnamon, I curled in the sunlit library of the Builtmore Inn, and deeply pondered the question as

Damn It's Cold...Vacations. They're supposed to be warm and sunny right? Either someone forgot to tell the weatherman or someone forgot to turn up the heat. While my stay here at the Biltmore estate has been wonderfully cheery, the temps have been anything but. 7 degrees here this morning with a wind chill of -11 ~ Bur-r-r-bies. Alas, later this morning, I will be heading back to reality. Although the shot through the plate glass window doesn't do it justice, while sipping coffee and writing, this is what I was looking at... The Rain, the Park & My Kodak Moment... - 12/11/10 06:45 AM
The Rain, the Park & My Kodak Moment... For me, every click of the shutter creates a Kodak moment. That thin slice of time, mechanically captured on light sensitive material, impregnates images in our minds and perminately etches them on our hearts. It had been raining most of the morning. Needing to break the funk of cabin fever, I grabbed my gear, jumped in the jeep and headed to one of my havens. The solitude of the deep woods surrounding the park, the cool breeze and late morning sunshine bolstered my spirits and the earlier feelings of gloom were a distant

31 Days of December Challenge ~ Days 8 - 10... - 12/10/10 07:59 PM
31 Days of December Challenge ~ Days 8 - 10...Wow! Time is sure zipping by faster than we can all imagine. Time to get my sorry butt in gear as the end of the year will be here sooner than we all realize. And let's face it, between the eggnog, strudel, office parties and other distractions, the month will be over and the fat babe singing. Okay, what did I accomplish. Days 8 & 9 found me cleaning out the rest of the storage facility and shredding documents to make room for this years files. Task complete ~ Yeah!!! Today, I

How Slow Can You Go? - 12/08/10 07:03 AM
How Slow Can You Go? We live in a fast paced society. There are many of that exist on the bleeding edge of speed ~ Faster horses, faster cars, faster internet... Back in the dark ages, we connected to the internet through services like Prodigy or AOL, screaming through cyberspace at 9K Baud speeds. It wasn't long before technology improved and we were able to whiz at warp speeds through our 54K baud dial ups. The boings, dings and other sounds generated by the old modems are now memories to those of us who lived in that era. Now, we connect

Monday Morning Motivator & Some Points to Ponder... - 12/06/10 05:18 AM
Monday Morning Motivator & Some Points to Ponder... Every piece of the universe, even the tiniest little snow crystal, matters somehow, someway. You have a place in the pattern in the grand scheme of the Universe, and so do I… ~ Michael Thornton In the Holiday classic, "It's a Wonderful Life", the world without George Baily was revealed to him as he contemplated suicide. Looking over a field of freshly fallen snow, I have often wondered what difference does or will one snowfake make? Thankfully, the answer is in much greater hands. Just as it takes many parts to

31 Days of December Challenge ~ Days 1-5... I often wonder why I'm the last to find out about contests, challenges and other diddies put on by ActiveRain members <sigh>. This morning, I stumbled upon Richard Iarossi's repost of Jennifer Prestwich's post announcing the 31 Days of December Challenge. <Thank gawd for reblogs> Being one to work on/in the business daily, I am constantly doing something. Add too, there is something about 3,000 ActiveRain points to help incentivize one as well. So without further ado, this is the skinny of what I have done over the last 3 days and what

November Blogging Report ~ ActiveRain Style... - 12/01/10 05:56 AM
November Blogging Report ~ ActiveRain Style...November has scurried by like the windblown leaves of Autumn and the last hurrah of the year dawns. Time once again for the ActiveRain Blogging Report ~ The unofficial finger on the pulse of ActiveRain. For the second month in a row, ActiveRain saw a slight dip in the numbers. As expected, blogging is slow around the holidays. Time spent with family and friends certainly should take precedent over blogging and the numbers reflected accordingly. ActiveRain members posted over 2,000 posts 10 days this month the same as October. The number of new members is inconclusive
